J Operating System

J Operating System

J Operating System is primarily intended for programmers. more>>
J Operating System is primarily intended for programmers.
Target Users:
- Hobbiests--You used to buy computers to do programming. They didnt do much else. Windows doesnt even come with a compiler, which is ironic since Bill Gates wrote BASIC. The "J" operating system is primarily intended for programmers. Ive attempted to lower the bar, so amateurs can contribute. I hope to recreate the dynamic environment that used to exist when the Commodore 64 was around and everyone was creating odd-ball software.
- Researchers--Im sure many lab researchers still use DOS because they have to interact with hardware, which is difficult with Windows.
Main features:
- No security! You can access all ports, memory and disk blocks to your hearts content. When youre working with your own computer, security just gets in the way and makes things slow--I hate anti-virus and anti-spyware because they just slow things down. When you know you dont have a risk, have no secrets and do regular back-ups, who needs security?
- Uniformity
- There is no virtual memory and everyone is on the same address-map. You can easily communicate between tasks, passing addresses. Addresses start at a base of zero and, essentually, segment registers are not used.
- There is basically one language to learn called "C+" which is a little more than "C", but less than "C++". You dont need to learn a scripting langauge because everything uses this syntax.
- There is an extension of ASCII called "J" rich text which allows colors, links, graphics and various widgets in your documents. This format is used in source code, documents, help, menus, etc.
- Support for compressed, encrypted and contiguous files.
- FAT32, FAT12 and ISO9660 filesystems.
- Blazing-fast compiler which can recompile everything in 5 seconds. It doesnt optimize.
- All source code is included and its still around a Meg.
Hardware:
- PS/2 mouse and keyboard
- VGA graphics
- Some hard drives. Must be on the primary or secondary IDE controller and support LBA28. Drives of 120Gig are the limit.
- Some CD-ROM/DVD drives, including burning.
- Some floppies. Just 1.44Meg and not all types.
- No USB support yet
- No network support yet
- ASCII printers on the parallel port are supported.

Sample Inventory Program 1.0.2

Sample Inventory Program 1.0.2

Sample Inventory Program provides a laboratory inventory management system (LIMS) for Zope. more>>
Sample Inventory Program provides a laboratory inventory management system (LIMS) for Zope.
Many integration tests exist for various aspects of the SIP application, ranging from command line importing of samples and project configuration to CSV Web-based importing of sample modifications.
Main features:
- Cross platform using the Zope 3 appliation server and Python language. Contains over 200 unit and integrations tests.
- Command line import functionality (import application configuration, projects, samples, aliquots and container heirarchies)
- Cross project searches based on Subject Ids, Other Ids, Additional Sample Data, and Sample Types. Uses REPORT Permission.
- Search Form Screenshot
- Project level permissions. Users can be enabled/disabled by removing User Permission in the Applicaiton root. Lab Technician Permission allows users to put contents into a shipment and add/modify Samples. Project Manager permission allows project configuration as well as administering Users for specified projects.
- User and Permission Screenshot
- 100% Web based interface (IE, Mozilla, Safari tested). QT based client in development.
- Projects Overview Screenshot
- Ability to Split Aliquots into smaller units and put them into separate physical containers.
- Ability to Derive Aliquots into other Sample Types. Derived Samples/Aliquots links to their origin sample.
- Locations/Containers are heirarchical and can be restricted to a Project
- Shipments act as virtual containers where Lab Technicans can split aliquots into. AlsocShipments contain Contact Info, Shipping Info and Funding Info. While the Shipment Status will control the status of the Shipment moving from: Incomplete, In-Transit, and finally Received based on date fields being filled out.
- Shipment Screenshot
- Understandable relational model that enables simple reporting to be easily constructed by third party tools such as Jasper Reports
- Batch editing available using CSV files. All changes are transactional. You can easily import hundreds of samples into multiple projects by using CSV files and importing them through the web interface. You can change locations of aliquots by using the CSV import functionality. Any functionality that can be done in the web interface is complimented by CSV functionality.
- Project Search Results Screenshot
- Ability to administer Sample Type, Container Type, Locations and Unit of Measure at the application level to enforce standards across all Projects. Requires Application Manager permission.
- Ability to assign Sample Type, Locations, Technicans in a Project by Project basis.
- Project Administration Screenshot
- Advance Attribute Capture forms enable Project Administrators to specify what attributes for their Sample Types need to be captured for their project. Now non-technical users can ensure that Lab Technicans capture any attribute for any Sample Type. Attributes are limited to: DateTime, Boolean, Float, Integer, String and Text fields. Default Values can be assigned.
- Sample Type Attributes Screenshot
- Finally Sample Type Attributes can have validation scripted on a field by field basis. By using the TALES Validation functionality for Sample Type Attribute Fields. Examples of TALES validation:
- python: value < 100 # value of the field is less than 100
- python: value < datetime.date(2006, 10, 31)
- # value of the field is less than 10/31/2006
- Edit Comments will require a comment to be added to any field that is edited. These are used in conjunction with RDBMS triggers to keep a audit log to ensure that all changes to all inventory can be tracked.

phpMyInventory 2.81

phpMyInventory 2.81

phpMyInventory is a web-based hardware and software inventory system. more>>
phpMyInventory (PMI) is a web-based inventory program designed to keep track of all your systems, software and peripherals. "Systems" include: PCs, servers, laptops, network printers, etc. See the project page to download v2.81 or to read the change log. Some screenshots are available on the left.

phpMyInventory requires PHP 4.0 or greater and MySQL, and runs on both Apache and IIS webservers. It includes a number of unique features, including:

* A flexible permissions system. For example, you can give users the ability to only view PMI data, the ability to view and update that data, or the view to view, update, and delete data.
* A software license tracker. You can specify whether software licenses are machine or user specific, and PMI will count how many licenses you have left. It will warn you when you drop to zero.

PMI is free and open source (GPL). It is a scaled-down (but completely functional) version of our commercial product, Syslist. Syslist includes features not found in PMI, such as automatic inventory of Windows PC, a ticket system, location tracking, reporting, and numerous UI improvements.

Distributed Internet Backup System 0.92

Distributed Internet Backup System 0.92

Distributed Internet Backup System works by doing all its communication through email. more>>
Distributed Internet Backup System works by doing all its communication through email. The benefit of using email for transport is that clients behind firewalls or with intermittent connections to the Internet can use DIBS reliably.
Since disk drives are cheap, backup should be cheap too. Of course it does not help to mirror your data by adding more disks to your own computer because a virus, fire, flood, robbery, power surge, etc. could still wipe out your local data center.
Instead, you should give your files to peers (and in return store their files) so that if a catastrophe strikes your area, you can recover data from surviving peers. The Distributed Internet Backup System (DIBS) is designed to implement this vision.
Note that DIBS is a backup system not a file sharing system like Napster, Gnutella, Kazaa, etc. In fact, DIBS encrypts all data transmissions so that the peers you trade files with can not access your data.
Enhancements:
- Added Peer Finder service to allow advertising and automated exchange of peering information. See manual for details.
- Updated add_peer and edit_peer commands to allow sizes to be specified using k, m, g, t (e.g., 10k, 10m, 10g, 10t).
- Updated the protocol DIBS uses to exchange store, unstore, probe, and other messages between peers. The new protocol is XML based to allow easier debugging, parsing, and extensions.
- Fixed a deadlock bug reported by Jason Martin in a message to the dibs-discussion mailing list.
- Made the daemon run its periodic checks like spawnning auto_check, process_message, etc., as soon as it starts up.
- Other minor bug fixes and improvements

Open Gaming System 0.1.1

Open Gaming System 0.1.1

Open Gaming System is a platform for developing open gaming software. more>>
Open Gaming System project is a platform for developing open gaming software.

It defines an API and provides a free software implementation of this interface. It is designed to be portable, reusable, and flexible enough for use in any game world or campaign setting including medieval, modern, futuristic, gothic, eastern, and western, as well as the traditional fantasy setting.

This distribution contains a software development kit (SDK) for development with C, C++, and Java.

"What is an open game?"

Basically, an open game is a role-playing game that uses an open rule system. An open game follows a recent trend in the role-playing gaming market where the rule systems for such games are shared with the gaming community much like open source software. Open source software is in fact the model for open games.

Role-playing games are a genre of tabletop and computer games typically set in a fantasy world where players assume and develop the personae of a character in an epic adventure. Back to the original question, open gaming software is software written for open games.

This software range from massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG), complete campaign management systems, or character generation tools.
