Coin Strip 1.0

Coin Strip 1.0

Coin Strip project consists of scripts which play Coin Strip or Welters game against the user. more>>
Coin Strip project consists of scripts which play Coin Strip or Welters game against the user.

Coin Strip is a series of scripts in which the computer plays either Coin Strip or Welters game against the user (See "On Numbers and Games" by John Conway).

The scripts use a recursive algorithm in which the game tree is searched on the fly for sure winners, positions from which the computer cannot lose.

Since the search is CPU intensive, lookup tables have been generated for up to 6 coins on a strip 30 spaces long.

The scripts to generate and play using the lookup tables are provided for the Coin Strip game only.

mwcollect 3.0.3

mwcollect 3.0.3

mwcollect is an easy solution to collect worms and other autonomous spreading malware in a non-native environment. more>>
mwcollect is an easy solution to collect worms and other autonomous spreading malware in a non-native environment like FreeBSD or Linux.
The first versions were used to collect binaries for botnet monitoring and bots are still what mwcollect is mostly used for collecting.
Some people consider it a next generation honeypot, however that comparison often leads to the misunderstanding that computers running mwcollect can actually be infected with the malware - that is not the case!
Enhancements:
- This release adds a submit-gotek submission module, fixes some bugs in the timeout code, and builds cleanly under FreeBSD.

Coindesigner is a RAD (rapid application development) system to build 3D applications using Coin3D openInventor.
Coindesigner allows to write simple 3D scenarios just using drag&drop, so users require no programming acknoledges at all to use it.
Coindesigner is a system equivalent to glade or qt-designer, where we can choose components from the openInventor toolkit, add them somewhere in our scene and configure them in a very easy way... and all changes are applied to the scene on the fly!
Main features:
- Reads and write scenes in native openInventor file format
- Can import geometry from VRML, 3ds, DXF, OFF (from geomview), SMF, sphere trees .SPH and XYZ point clouds file formats.
- Can export geometry to file formats VRML2, SMF, OBJ, STL, OFF y XYZ.
- It allows to visualize volumetric data (such as medical CT) if SIM Voleon is available in your system.
- Makes some basic geometrical operations, as mesh reduction (with QSLIM) and convex hull computation.
- It includes cdsview, an minimalistic external viewer that allows you to view and distribute scenes without need of coindesigner.
- Provides helpers to define colors (with QColorDialog), file paths (with QFileDialog), menus for enumerated types and much more...
- Allows to use manips to configure Lights and Transform nodes. Just use the right mouse button to interchange between those nodes and their manip!

Coinflip 1.1

Coinflip 1.1

Coinflip provides a cryptographically secure server/client program and protocol for choosing random bits. more>>
Coinflip provides a cryptographically secure server/client program and protocol for choosing random bits.

Coinflip is a client/server based program that can generate random bits for 2 people over the internet. The 2 people dont have to trust each other in order to convince each other that the bit is truly a random bit.

Its called coinflip, of course, because flipping a coin in the real world is the equivalent of generating a random bit on a computer. (Its either heads or tails. Its either a 1 or a 0.)

Coinflip uses a slightly modified version of the "Coin Flipping Using One-Way
Functions" protocol outlined in Bruce Schneiers Applied Cryptography 2nd
edition.

This attack would work everytime Alice acted as the server in a coinflip procedure, providing Bob never realized that Alice was sending him the same y value every time. Or she could us it to trick multiple Bobs.

While it is supposed to be computationally infeasible to compute collisions in one-way hash functions, recent papers suggest that if you have enough money and time, collisions can be precalculated. P. van Oorschot and M. Wiener in their paper, "Parallel collision search with application to hash functions and discreet logarithms", estimate that for $10 million (in 1994 US dollars), a collision could be found for MD5 in 24 days on average. (Thanks for the info, defrost).

The solution is actually quite simple: Have both parties choose part of the random data, and use whatever size random number you like. Since Bob is expecting to see x contain his random data, Alices collision attack is nullified, and since Alice gets to put in her own data, she can make Bobs array attack infeasible.

Ogrian Carpet 0.9

Ogrian Carpet 0.9

Ogrian Carpet is a 3D fantasy action/strategy game. more>>
Ogrian Carpet project is a 3D fantasy action/strategy game.
Ogrian Carpet is an outdoor first person shooter game with real time strategy elements, inspired by the game Magic Carpet.
It uses Ogre3D as the renderer and allows you to fly around an island casting spells, summoning monsters, collecting mana, and building castles.
The object of the game is to build a castle, collect mana, and destroy your enemies. To build a castle, select a location, look at the ground, and cast the build spell. Note, you cannot build castles very close to water or other castles.
Your castle starts out small, with only one turret. As more mana is added to your castle, it will gain more turrets. Each turret adds another crane to your castles defense and another spell to your arsenal.
Basically, the game consists of fighting for control of mana. Whenever you encounter another wizard, shoot them with fireballs. If you hit them enough, they will "die" and be sent back to their castle. You are then free to claim all the mana in the area for yourself.
Once all the mana has been claimed, attack your enemys castle to get mana out of it so you can claim it for yourself. Once you enemys castle is out of mana, you can eliminate it by killing its heart. When all of your opponents have been banished, youve won.
Enhancements:
- AI bot player for skirmish
- things can now be loaded from an image, rather then randomly
- option for old randomized maps
- trees can now always bee seen
- made castle mana drops aggregate more
- loosened the restrictions on summoning
- made the config menu better
- added victory conditions to skirmish: kill all enemy towers/castles
- made ticks and gnomes stay in the formation you put them in
- made monsters and towers drop less then their cost when they have no wizard
- made mana float higher
- made towers cheaper (50)
- made sentinels drop much less (3)
- changed speed behavior on lava maps
- added victory music
- new music

Some Tools for Image Collectors 0.7

Some Tools for Image Collectors 0.7

Some Tools for Image Collectors is aet of tools for obtaining and managing pictures and detecting doubles. more>>
stic bundles a few Linux tools which are intended to support the task of collecting an unreasonable amount of pictures (preferrably in JPEG format).
similar
a program for detecting duplicate or very similar images. It maintains a
database of characteristic color samples which it compares with submitted
pictures. similar depends on libjpeg and ImageMagick s convert (on a
modern Linux desktop system these components should already be present).
Storage medium may be a usual filesystem or a MySQL database. There
also is a MySQL UDF extension to compare image samples within SQL queries.
similar contains the communications module described at sagent.
simv
a core program to perform file management tasks on an image collection.
Its main purpose is to coordinate file movements with the content of
similars database. This applies to importing new files which get tested
against the existent collection, as well as to inform similar about moving
and deleting files within the collection.
simv depends on an external image viewer like ImageMagick s display
(should already be present on a modern Linux desktop system) or John
Bradleys xv (quite a fast one).
simv contains the communications module described at sagent.
sagent
a standalone version of the communications module used in simv and
similar. This software receives input from its start terminal and multiple
clients, distributes several types of output back to them, and is also
able to act itself as such a client.
Since communications mainly use TCP/IP there is an encryption layer
(Blowfish with 128 bit keys) which provides user authentication. Any
single activity of such a user may be particularly permitted or denied.
Secure connections should be possible that way as long as one can defend
the keyfiles and programs on client and server host against foreign
access.
Front-end connection software is available in C, Tcl/Tk and PHP3 to build
custom clients. In the most primitive case even telnet can act as a
client.
The standalone program sagent may be used as communications node in a tree
of clients. Another purpose is to be a shell frontend which sends commands
to a server and receives its replies.
snntpbatch
a command line based NNTP (newsgroups) client. It is mainly intended for
automatic download of images by use of a filter language. Nevertheless it
also downloads the message texts and converts them to HTML code which
includes the downloaded images. Also, it is capable of automatically
posting sets of images to the newsgroups.
The tools are designed to be very independent of the system flavor. On an
average Linux desktop there should be no need to update existing system
components. Actually one could use stic without having display equipment for
graphics.
Any program activity which is possible in dialog may also be performed in
batch runs. Therefore the tools are quite suitable for users who like to get
boring tasks automated and manual tasks simplified.
All tools code is open source and distributed under BSD license.
Example images Credit: U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (see images/CREDITS)
Enhancements:
- The new encrypted protocol version 0.2 is standard now : SHA-1 seal, 256 bit keys, variable chaining initialization vector.
- The protocol of a connection is chosen by the client and may or may not be accepted by the server.
- See sagent command -security options clientprotocol , serverprotocol.

CoinXtension 0.2

CoinXtension 0.2

CoinXtension is a small extension for the programmer-friendly graphics framework Coin 3D. more>>
CoinXtension offers some additional operators for existing data types of Coin 3D; but more important it extends the linear algebra capabilities of the original framework, by adding the new data type C3Xt_matrix3d, that offers such usefull routines as for eigenvalue or QR-decomposition.
CoinXtension library only depends on Coin 3d and libstdc++, thus it should work on all plattforms on which Coin 3D is available, altough it was developed and tested only on Linux/x86.
This is the first release and the software is still alpha, so dont expect it to be exactly the same in some days or weeks, nor that it works the way you imagined!
Furthermore the development of the library is not really a directed process, but i integrate new features as i come accross things in projects that might usefull in future ones too.
Enhancements:
- Support for Euler angles and many bugfixes.

Boehm-Demers-Weiser Conservative Garbage Collector 7.0

Boehm-Demers-Weiser Conservative Garbage Collector 7.0

Boehm-Demers-Weiser Conservative Garbage Collector is a garbage collector as a replacement for C malloc or C++ new. more>>
The Boehm-Demers-Weiser conservative garbage collector can be used as a garbage collecting replacement for C malloc or C++ new.
Boehm-Demers-Weiser Conservative Garbage Collector allows you to allocate memory basically as you normally would, without explicitly deallocating memory that is no longer useful. The collector automatically recycles memory when it determines that it can no longer be otherwise accessed.
The collector is also used by a number of programming language implementations that either use C as intermediate code, want to facilitate easier interoperation with C libraries, or just prefer the simple collector interface.
Alternatively, the garbage collector may be used as a leak detector for C or C++ programs, though that is not its primary goal.
Typically several versions will be available. Usually you should first try to use gc_source/gc.tar.gz, which is normally an older, more stable version.
If that fails, try the latest explicitly numbered version in gc_source/. Later versions may contain additional features, platform support, or bug fixes, but are likely to be less well tested. Note that versions containing the letters alpha are even less well tested than others, especially on non-HP platforms.
A slightly older version of the garbage collector is now also included as part of the GNU compiler distribution.
The collector uses a mark-sweep algorithm. It provides incremental and generational collection under operating systems which provide the right kind of virtual memory support. (Currently this includes SunOS[45], IRIX, OSF/1, Linux, and Windows, with varying restrictions.)
It allows finalization code to be invoked when an object is collected. It can take advantage of type information to locate pointers if such information is provided, but it is usually used without such information. ee the README and gc.h files in the distribution for more details.
The garbage collector distribution includes a C string (cord) package that provides for fast concatenation and substring operations on long strings. A simple curses- and win32-based editor that represents the entire file as a cord is included as a sample application.
Performance of the nonincremental collector is typically competitive with malloc/free implementations. Both space and time overhead are likely to be only slightly higher for programs written for malloc/free (see Detlefs, Dosser and Zorns Memory Allocation Costs in Large C and C++ Programs.)
For programs allocating primarily very small objects, the collector may be faster; for programs allocating primarily large objects it will be slower. If the collector is used in a multithreaded environment and configured for thread-local allocation, it may in some cases significantly outperform malloc/free allocation in time.
We also expect that in many cases any additional overhead will be more than compensated for by decreased copying etc. if programs are written and tuned for garbage collection.
Enhancements:
- The C code now requires at least C89.
- The live data in the heap is now counted, helping to make the heap expansion heuristic more robust.
- Thread local allocation support was enhanced.
- Some obsolete platform support such as old-style Solaris threads was removed.
- Some new platform support was added.
- Various bugs were fixed.

ClusterControl 2.0

ClusterControl 2.0

ClusterControl project is a web-interface to simplify distributing and monitoring bioinformatics applications on Linux clusters. more>>
ClusterControl project is a web-interface to simplify distributing and monitoring bioinformatics applications on Linux cluster systems.

This software is based on a modular concept that enables integration of command-line oriented programs into the application framework of ClusterControl. The system enables integration of different applications accessed through one interface and executed on a distributed cluster system.

The use of wide spread and freely available technologies like Apache as web-server, PHP as server-side scripting-language and OpenPBS or Sun Grid Engine (SGE) as queuing system enables straightforward installation on common operating systems.

Installation:

For local installation, ClusterControl requires a running installation of the web server Apache (http://www.apache.org) with PHP(Version 4) and LDAP support, that comes with nearly every Linux distribution, and a local installation of the queuing system Open Portable Batch System (PBS) which can be downloaded from http://www.openpbs.org or Sun Grid Engine (SGE) which is available at http://gridengine.sunsource.net.

If an LDAP-Server is already available for user-management of the cluster it can be easily integrated by modifying the configuration file. To activate the monitoring mechanism of ClusterControl a status collecting server-process must be started on every cluster node. With the adaptation of one well documented configuration file the installation process is completed.
