gvSIG 0.6

gvSIG 0.6

gvSIG is an easy to use Java desktop GIS. more>>
gvSIG is a tool oriented to manage geographic information. gvSIG project is characterized by a user-friendly interface, with a quick access to the most usual raster and vector formats. In the same view it includes local as well as remote data through a WMS or WFS source.

It is aimed at users of geographic information, whether professionals or civil servants (city councils, councils, regional councils or ministries) from any part of the world ( at the moment its interface is in Spanish, Valencian, English, Basque, Czech , French, German, Italian and Portuguese), in addition to being freeware.

Given its freeware nature (open source) it is highly interesting for the international community of developers and, in particular, for university settings due to its R&D&I component. In fact, special emphasis has been placed on the expansion of the project so that potential developers can easily expand the functions of the application, as well as develop completely new applications from the libraries used in gvSIG (as long as they comply with the GPL license).

Gamazons 0.83

Gamazons 0.83

Gamazons is a Gnome implementation of the Amazons board game. more>>
Amazons is a game played on a 10x10 chess board. Each side has four pieces (amazons) that move like chess queens (in a straight line in any direction). Instead of capturing pieces like in chess, the game is determined based on who moves last.

Each move consists of two parts. First an amazon moves to a new square and then fires an arrow to another square (the arrow is fired in a straight line in any direction from the square the amazon landed on).

The square the arrow lands on becomes a permenant block for the rest of the game. No one can move over it, or fire an arrow over it. Every turn an amazon must move and fire an arrow, so every turn there is one less square available on the board. Try and block in your opponent or section off a good chunk of the board for yourself.

This is a Gnome 2 app, so that must be installed on your system for it to work. Other than that, from the main directory, type "./configure" to generate the necessary makefiles. Then make, make install to compile and install the game. Then type gamazons to start the game.

Note: Ive heard reports of the ./configure erroring out on RH8 with the following message:
checking for libgnomeui-2.0... Package libgnomeui-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.

Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libgnomeui-2.0.pc to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package libgnomeui-2.0 found
This problem can be fixed by installing the libgnomeui-devel-2.0.3-3 RPM file.

You can set the player settings from the settings->player menu. You can set it to play AI vs AI or whatever you like.

However, I do have a few default option overrides. For instance, when you get near the end of the game and you dont feel like brainlessly moving a bunch of pieces that are already blocked off into their own areas, you can click on "Auto Finish" which will set both players as AI with a 1 second think time. Also, if you get a little tired of waiting for the AI to move (perhaps you set the time to think too long), you can click on the Force Move button and make him move right then.

Things that arent implemented yet are the network and help menus. Also the undo button doesnt do anything yet (although Ive pretty much got the framework to do it).

Supybot 0.83.2

Supybot 0.83.2

Supybot is a cross-platform IRC bot written in Python. more>>
Supybot is a clearly-written Python IRC framework and bot, intended to be both easily extensible and very flexible. Several modules are included by default. Numerous plugins are already written, including Google, Factoids, RSS, Quotes, and Relay.
Plugins and their commands achieve greater utility via command nesting, something that no other IRC bot does. The user database is based on "capabilities" rather than obscure flags or arbitrary numeric "userlevels", giving the bot flexibility and fine-grained control (think ACLs vs. standard *nix permissions).
Developing your own additions to the bot is simple with the base classes provided; writing a new command for the bot is as simple as writing a function. Unlike many other IRC frameworks, this simplicity is achieved at no cost to generality, which lets new programmers and old programmers alike feel at home in the framework.
Main features:
- Supybot is actively developed.
- Supybot offers nested commands.
- Supybot has a powerful and flexible capability system for handling security.
- Supybot includes many plugins , and has many more ripe for the picking on this very website.
- Supybot supports multiple servers.
- Supybot supports multiple channels.
- Supybot is user-friendly.
- Supybot is developer-friendly.
- Supybot is stable.
- The stability of a Supybot is only limited by the uptime of the host it runs on. Multi-month uptimes are the norm, rather than the exception.
Enhancements:
- A few of the more important changes are changing the default network driver from Twisted to Socket and fixing the crash bug with the Karma plugin.

Naughts and Crosses a simple tic-tac-toe game - with a twist.

This is a simple tic-tac-toe game, written in C++ for the console. Its a very simple affair, and only suited to the odd five minutes, but has a fully functional one-player mode (which I have tried to make neither too easy nor too hard) and offers the ability to modify the board size.

IPchains Firewalling Webmin Module 0.83.1

IPchains Firewalling Webmin Module 0.83.1

IPchains Firewalling Webmin Module allows you to easily maintain a firewall based on ipchains with the Webmin look and feel. more>>
IPchains Firewalling Webmin Module allows you to easily maintain a firewall based on ipchains with the Webmin look and feel.

This module creates a shell script containing all system calls for ipchains. You can modify the chains and the rules in these chains. All changes are written to the script, which must then be executed (possible within the module). The module can import the current system settings so that you can migrate from other tools very easy and do not need to build up the complete firewall a second time. The current version offers three different operation modes:

Newbie: Select one from 5 predefined security levels. This will activate a predefined ruleset. There are two different sets of rulesets, one for a Personal Firewall and one for a Router Firewall
Template: Select from a big list of protocols and directions which traffic should be allowed to pass through the firewall
Expert: This mode is the original one. You can define the settings for each rule in detail and change everything

The installation is quite simple: Login to your Webmin as admin (or whatever you called the adminstrative user) and go to the Webmin tab, then choose "Webmin Configuration". Now click on "Webmin Modules". Give the file in the first box (you can choose any installation method, all should work). Hit Install. Now the module is being installed.

Pytego 0.02

Pytego 0.02

Pytego project is a networkable Stratego clone created with Pygame. more>>
Pytego project is a networkable "Stratego" clone created with Pygame.
Pytego is a two-player, cross-platform networked clone of the classic boardgame "Stratego" from Milton Bradley developed using Pygame and SDL.
I could not find a good, networkable, free version of Stratego -- so I wrote my own. Mostly because I was interested in developing a game, partially because I think Python is a terrific language and partially because I was bored (sssh!).
This is the initial release of Pytego. Download it, try it out and send me your comments, questions, suggestions, and bug reports. Also, Im no artist, so send me new tiles and new graphics for the units -- anything! On my TODO list is support for user-customizable tilesets and icons.
Id like to acknowledge the Civil developers for inspiration (and their clear, easy-to-use networking code). Id also like to acknowledge David Clarkes Newbie Guide for convincing me to not worry about the "side issues" (rule #8) and to do things the "pythony way" (rule #13).
Enhancements:
- Reuse the "box" as the status area after the game has started, this way theres not a HUGE blank, white area after all the pieces have been placed.
