CFPlus 0.95

CFPlus 0.95

CFPlus is a modern client for Crossfire+ and Crossfire MMORPG game servers. more>>
CFPlus is a modern client for Crossfire+ and Crossfire MMORPG game servers.
It offers a large map, an elaborate menu and help system, dialog-based character setup, and an innovative command completer and macros, and supports all CF+ extensions: dialog-based NPC interaction, enhanced map protocol (health and dialogue information), and the graphical minimap.
It is based on Perl, SDL, and OpenGL for high performance on modern systems, and works on both Unix and Windows. Ports to other platforms should be very easy and are underway.
Main features:
- Death is not permanent, and you can get back all lost stats and experience by playing a game in a special place named Nimbus. You are teleported there when you die and you have to play a game (currently minesweeper) to get out.
- Friendly fire is disabled and playerkilling is also modified. You can only kill another player when you and the other player are hostile. To become hostile, you have to visit the church of Gorokh in Scorn and talk to the priest. To become peaceful again, visit the curch of Valriel and talk to its priest.
- Invitation of other players to where you are is possible with the invite command. You have to solve the invitor quest (see below in maps) to be able to use the command.
- You can follow other players with the follow command when you stand next to the player you want to follow.
- Pet monsters and summoned creatures will not stand in the way of other party members, making it bearable to play with summoning skills in a party.
- Map and graphics artists are working on improved graphics and new maps and quests.
- A new currency: the Royalty. Its worth 100 Platinum and is made of paper. (The bank script was completly rewritten in Perl)
- The communication commands have been rewritten in Perl and an ignore command was added.
- Trade shops have been implemented in Perl, which allows the player to trade items when they are offline.

Mr. Voice 2.2

Mr. Voice 2.2

Mr. Voice is a specific-purpose Perl/Tk front-end for an MP3 database. more>>
Mr. Voice is a specific-purpose Perl/Tk front-end for an MP3 database.
It was written to provide an easy-to-use MP3 solution for the production booth of an improv comedy troupe, and as such is tailored to providing quick searches and playback of MP3s that are split up into categories.
While not intended to be a standalone desktop MP3 player, others in a similar situation may find it useful.
What is Mr. Voice? A way to have a ton of audio at your disposal, and to be able to call up just the clip you need, just when you need it. If youre running any sort of production that needs audio, such as improv shows, theatre, church events, that sort of thing, Mr. Voice can help. It handles a wide variety of audio formats (MP3, OGG, WAV, AAC, WMA), can do queueing and playlisting, and has a powerful SQL database backend (without needing the overhead of a big database engine like MySQL).
Plus, its 100% free and open-source.
What isnt Mr. Voice? A general-purpose MP3 player. In fact, it doesnt play audio at all by itself - it farms that off to an audio player like XMMS or WinAmp. Its also probably not a wonderful iTunes replacement. Sure, you can categorize and search audio files, but its not designed to become a jukebox.
Enhancements:
- A new option under the Online Preferences to edit the XML-RPC (Mr. Voice Online) URL that is used (in case I need to change it again). It was hardcoded into the program before.
- Fixed bugs that were causing strange quote marks to appear in song and category names.
- Display the song filename in the "Edit Song" menu. Suggested by Bill in Portland.
- Display the time of a song next to the hotkey listing. Suggested by Ted in Chapel Hill.
- Added an option under the File menu to export the song list from your Mr. Voice database as either a text file or Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Suggested by Ted in Chapel Hill.

Crossfire TRT 2.1

Crossfire TRT 2.1

Crossfire TRT project is an advancement of the crossfire multi-user RPG game. more>>
Crossfire TRT project is an advancement of the crossfire multi-user RPG game. Unlike the original project, it focuses mainly on stability and playability, but also adds modern technology such as map scripting, Perl server extensions, asynchronous I/O, higher resolution graphics, and better client support.
- Big 64x64 faces and tiles have been introduced, which have a higher detail level than the old 32x32 tiles, and can be used with the CFPlus client.
Enhancements:
- optimised event invocation (non-wanted events can now be skipped with 4-5 inlined instructions).
- complete rewrite of town_portal: it now creates a portal to the "nearest" town only, travel is only possible to the town and back, anybody can use it (also removes one of the remaining syncpoints in the server).
- complete rewrite of the range/attack skill slot system: there are now two slots, one for combat, one for ranged attacks.
- introduce the concept of a current weapon (either a ranged or a combat weapon/skill/tool) and switch between them as needed.
- rewrite bow code so bows get more useful: apply damage, attacktype and other stats to the arrows and treat bows as weapons. also rebalance the missile weapons skill so its damage increases with level.
- rewrite the complete player speed logic: weapon_speed now works as documented and there are no unnatural speed boosts.
- implement a utility - cfutil - that simplifies arch and map installation, replacing the old collect scripts and simplying deployment by scaling and cutting faces as required.
- simplify the map protocol extensively by taking advantage of missing bigfaces, speeding up map generation immensely.
- implement inherit keyword allowing archetypes to inherit from other archetypes.

- implement new msg command for in-game messages with meta information (using xml).
- enforce utf-8 for all text messages.
- added micropather (not used yet).
- many, many bugfixes.

IRC Services 5.0.61 / 5.1pre4

IRC Services 5.0.61 / 5.1pre4

IRC Services are Services for IRC Networks. more>>
IRC Services are Services for IRC Networks (or just Services for short) provides for definitive nickname and channel ownership, automatic channel mode setting, memo (short message) storage and retrieval, and greater IRC operator control over the network.
Main features:
- Nickname management. Services allows users to "register" nicknames, and will prevent users other than the registrant from using them. Services also maintains information about each registered nickname, including the last time the nicks owner was online as well as a URL and E-mail address that can be set by the user.
- Channel management. Like nicknames, Services allows users to register channels as well. A channels owner can give privileges to other users of the channel, such as auto-opping or the ability to set various channel options, or conversely deny other users the ability to obtain channel operator privileges or even enter the channel altogether. Services will remember the topic on the channel even after the last user leaves, and can automatically set modes on the channel whenever a user joins it.
- Messages to offline users. Probably every IRC user has gone through the experience of waiting and waiting for someone to come online in order to pass a message along or ask a question. Services alleviates this with a "memo" system, allowing users to leave messages for other users even if the recipient is not online at the time; the recipient will be notified of the memo the next time they log on.
- Centralized network control. Services includes features which allow IRC operators greater control over the IRC network through a single point, and also defines multiple privilege levels for IRC operators with respect to Services itself. For example, IRC operators with sufficient privileges can use Services to set modes on any channel; it is also possible to ban users or groups of users from connecting to the network entirely, and such bans ("autokills" in Services terminology) will remain active even if a server, or Services itself, splits from the network.
Furthermore, each of these sets of features can be configured or disabled to match individual networks policies.
Whats New in 5.1pre4 Development Release:
- This release corrects various minor issues in the previous beta release and updates the ratbox protocol module to better support current versions of the ircd-ratbox server (note that versions earlier than 2.1 are no longer supported).
Whats New in 5.0.61 Stable Release:
- This release fixes a bug which allows users to crash Services on x86-64 (and potentially other non-x86) platforms.

Crystality Plugin 0.92

Crystality Plugin 0.92

Crystality Plugin consists of XMMS plugin and stdin/stdout plugin. more>>
Crystality Plugin consists of XMMS plugin and stdin/stdout plugin. It was written for realtime remastering of sound from mp3 files.
You will need a reasonably good stereo and a good ear to notice quality
improvement, otherwise this is not for you.

This plugin tries to patch mp3 format flaws, not a poor audio hardware! Yes, you should be able to hear well enough (sorry) - for some of my friends plugin is a cool thing, while the others does not hear nothing but echo and stereo expander (well, you will hear every effect if you set it to the maximum, but it will not sound nice).

Crystality was written for 16bit 44.1kHz stereo sound and may give strange results
with other sound formats.

Damian Hodgkiss sent me a quick port for Winamp 2.x. I have not tried it yet, but you can get it (cr-quick-winamp-port.zip).

This plugin does mainly four things (and some minor tricks):

1. Adds some sounds in very high frequency range. Most of the mp3s in The Net are flawed with a 16(15?) kHz cutoff. Even these ones compressed at high bitrates. This spectrum hole is audible and very unpleasant. This plugin helps a bit. Old mp3s made from the vinyl or the magnetic tape may also sound better with these "steroids". For old mp3s youll probably need to set filter to 0.1.

2. Adds some even harmonic distortions (actually nonlinearity), that sounds nice. Valve amps introduce even harmonic distortions (although differnt way) Look at audiophile pages for more info (well, mp3 format is not an audiophile stuff at all, but... welcome to the real world...).

3. Adds simple, but nice 3D echo (concert hall or church like). Most of echo plugins sounds too hard and aggresively for me. This one does not.

4. Extends stereo.

USING:

There are currently two versions of plugin - XMMS plugin and stdin/stdout. Stdin/out plugin is completly independent of XMMS plugin. It even stores its configuration in a separate file (~/.crystalityrc). Stdin/out plugin is alpha code, so some features are missed. You cannot reopen configuration dialog after closing without restarting plugin, there are no "save config", "load config" buttons. Configuration is loaded automatically on startup and saved on exit, either on normal finish or ^C. You can disable GUI with -g option (useful in scripts).

Because this plugin adds some sounds at high frequencies, you will probably need to decrease treble level on your amplifier. Plugin does not perform normalization, so you should slightly decrease signal level in XMMS equalizer (NOT volume slider on the main panel). Setting sliders to the maximum is generally a bad idea (well, except the filter, where that setting is useful).

PERFORMANCE:

It eats about 15% of CPU on my AMD K6-2/400 and optimization is still possible, this is not highly optimized code.

INSTALLATION:

Distribution contains binary version of XMMS plugin library and stdin/stdout plugin executable (Linux i586, glibc 2.1.3). You may copy plugin library file (libcrystality.so) into XMMSs Effect directory and executable (crystality-stdio) to /usr/local/bin or any location you prefer. For default locations simply type:

make install

and thats it.
You may also build crystality from the source.

make buildinstall

typed as root in the source directory should be all you have to do.

This plugin was my first small step in gtk programming, so dont expect any wonders, GUI is actually a quick hack to hardcoded settings. I am not a GUI programmer.

WWW::Yahoo::DrivingDirections is a Perl module to generate driving directions for multiple-stop trips in the United States. more>>
WWW::Yahoo::DrivingDirections is a Perl module to generate driving directions for multiple-stop trips in the United States, courtesy of maps.yahoo.com.

ABSTRACT

Object-oriented interface to the maps.yahoo.com driving directions.

SYNOPSIS

use WWW::Yahoo::DrivingDirections;
my $yd = WWW::Yahoo::DrivingDirections->new ();
$yd->add_stops ( @ARGV );
$yd->get_maps();
or
use WWW::Yahoo::DrivingDirections;
my $yd = WWW::Yahoo::DrivingDirections->new (
{
roundtrip => 1,
return_html => 1,
save_html => 0,
save_format => output_%d.html,
},
atlanta, ga,
123 fake st, boston, ma,
0 church st, cambridge, ma,
LAX,
);
$yd->add_stops ( paris, tx, 1 main st, springfield, IL );
$yd->roundtrip ( 1 );
$html_array_ref = $yd->get_maps();

WWW::Yahoo::DrivingDirections provides a simple means of generating driving directions for trips with more stops than a start and a finish. Driving from LAX airport to 1 Main St, Portland, OR to Denver, CO? Just do this:

use WWW::Yahoo::DrivingDirections;
my $yd = WWW::Yahoo::DrivingDirections->new (
LAX, 1 Main St, Portland, OR, Denver, CO
);
$yd->get_maps();

and the directions will be saved in trip_leg_1.html and trip_leg_2.html.

tunequeue 0.03

tunequeue 0.03

tunequeue is a Web based Internet radio station control software. more>>
tunequeue is a web based internet radio station control software; both a dynamic listener interface and an administrative interface.
tunequeue includes features like: multiple channels, user requests and ratings of songs, several types of queuing and show scheduling.
How it works:
Essentially, tunequeue just tells Ices what to play (Ices is nice enough to ask after each song when used in playlist mode). tunequeue decides what to play based on a number of criteria, including user input via a web interface. There are a number of scheduling methods which can be used to determine which song to play next, including random, sequential, least played, newest, highest rated, etc. tunequeue also allows you to schedule different playlists and method combinations to be used at different time periods, effectively creating "shows" at different times.
What can I do with it?
For example, my channel on Spogbiper plays current indie music from my collection. From 8AM to 5PM, it usually plays a random mix of songs that I like to hear while working, picking the next song from a set of the songs that havent been heard for the longest amount of time. However, from 11:30AM to 12:30PM, it plays early 90s alternative songs that I enjoyed ten years ago. From 5PM to 7PM it plays a select subset of the normal mix, all songs that are faster and more upbeat (got to start the party, work is done :). At 8PM it plays the highest rated songs according to users voting on the website until 9PM, and then it plays randomly from the newest additions to the library for an hour. Finally, at 1AM it switches to the sleepy time playlist, a mix of slow songs from the main playlist and an additional set of songs only played during the night.
In addition to the automatic scheduling, I allow users to request any song from the library at any time. Users can see the next few upcoming songs and cancel them or move them forward in the queue. Occasionally I will define a set playlist I like in Winamp and have the channel play through it sequentially. (tool to import winamp playlists is still very alpha but coming in next release).
In contast to my largely random style, a religious station currently testing tunequeue plays a set sequential playlist from start to finish each day, the order being defined in advance by church members. Thanks to the work of Jacint Balint, tunequeue has a nice web interface where they are able to easily create schedules for each day. Also added by Jacint is the ability to log the date and time that each song plays for use in reporting to licensing agencies.
Technical details:
Tunequeue is written in perl. It is designed to use the excellent Icecast streaming server and Ices to stream the audio to listeners, but it should be trivial to use tunequeue to control other streaming systems. The song library and channel configuration is stored in a SQL database, currently we have only tested with MySQL.
Enhancements:
- Major rewrite of the user interface cgi.
- The new design is extremely flexible to allow you to quickly create any kind of web based interface to your radio feed.
- No HTML generation is done in the cgis, all html can be created any way you like and tunequeue will insert live data anywhere you specify youd like it.
- Several templates are included as examples of different layouts.
- Also added many minor improvements to logging, settings, and some bug fixes to go along with all the new bugs.

Joomla! Content Management System JumpBox 1.0

Joomla! Content Management System JumpBox 1.0

Joomla! Content Management System JumpBox package contains includes Joomla! version 1.0.12 more>>
Joomla! Content Management System JumpBox package contains includes Joomla! version 1.0.12

Joomla! is one of the most powerful Content Management Systems in existence and is used widely around the world. Joomla! can be used to build a wide variety of web sites including: corporate web sites, small business web sites, non-profit organization web sites, school and church web sites, personal and family sites, community portals and just about any other kind of web site you can think of.

With JumpBox we’re looking to do the same for server based software. We simplify what has traditionally been complex and deliver server based Open Source applications to an audience that otherwise would be put off by the technical burdens of the old way of doing things.

An integrated software stack in a virtual appliance

A JumpBox bundles the operating system, application and all application dependancies into a single installable module that’s easily deployed using virtualization software from VMWare, Parallels or Xen

Easy to Install

A JumpBox allows you to install a complex server based application without having to know anything about Linux, databases or the command line. You just download, extract the archive and open the application with your virtualization software. Further setup and configuration is handled through a simple web interface.

Simple to manage

The JumpBox platform is pre-configured, tuned and secured to minimize the management needs of the application.

Runs anywhere

Mac OS X, Linux, Windows it doesn’t matter. Thanks to the use of virtualization, JumpBox applications run easily on all the most popular operating systems.

Painless to upgrade

With a JumpBox and the JumpBox Assurance program (launching Q2 2007), management of the system is simple and efficient. Updates to the entire software stack are handled automatically by the platform with minimal user interaction.

Quick to move

With a JumpBox all the application code, data and the runtime are bundled together into a single directory that can easily be moved between systems or even across platforms. This allows you to start using an application by just running it on your desktop. Then when you’re ready you can open it up to the rest of the network and either continue running it on your desktop or easily move it to the server at any time. It doesn’t even matter if the server is running a different operating system, with a JumpBox everything is self contained.

Uplug is a collection of tools for linguistic corpus processing, word alignment, and term extraction from parallel corpora. Several tools have been integrated in Uplug.
Pre-processing tools include a sentence splitter, tokenizer, and external part-of-speech tagger and shallow parsers. The following external tools are used: the Grok system for English (tagging and chunking) and the morphological analyzer ChaSen for Japanese.
Other tools such as the TreeTagger can easily be added. Translated documents can be sentence aligned using the length-based approach by Gale & Church. Words and phrases can be aligned using the clue alignment approach and the toolbox for training statistical alignment models GIZA++.
Enhancements:
- User management for the Web-based alignment interfaces (ICA & ISA) using simple password protection and user-specific data storage.
- 2 new sentence aligners integrated into Uplug: hunalign and GMA.
- Another sentence alignment approach: uplugalign (length-based sentence alignment with cognate/dictionary filters).
- Quickstart documentation for the new features.
