Free chat bot software for linux

B-Chat is a small application which allows you to chat on Battle.net.

It has no fancy GUI interface (yet :-), but I have plans for making it Gnome compliant.

However, at the moment it works pretty much like the regular UNIX telnet client, with the lines that are being sent and received mixed into eachother.

It can make it hard to read at times, but it serves my purpose.

I started work on this client because I wanted a way to chat with my friends on Battle.net while I was on Linux.

I really didnt feel like rebooting to Windows just to run TopazChat or ScumBot (I dont like Wine either :-), so I decided to code my own chat client.

The client is still in its early stages, so its very rough and may be hard to use. You have to supply the name o the Battle.net server that you are going to be connecting to. This will change in the future.

MOHA Chat is a chat solution which comes with a intuitive Web client and can run on most shared hosts. MOHA Chat consumes fewer resources on the server side and is fast on the client side.

The project uses AJAX to retrieve the chat messages and user status. The client polls the server at regular intervals. It currently supports only one-to-one chatting with the Web client. The Web client encrypts messages using a key unique to the client when sending a message to the server and vice versa.

Potbot is an IRC bot written in Perl. It it intended for aditional code to be added to produce a custom bot to do a certain job. Its code is modular to allow for easy additions. The bot is fully functional as it is, without any code additions.

This bot is certainly not finished. Its very buggy and nasty and the documentation is certainly incomplete. But. i felt like i should put a package up on sourceforge.. so here goes. This is potbot version 2-beta.

All configuration is done by editing potbot.pl in the same directory as this README. To run the bot, simple type ./potbot at bash.

XChatOSD is a Perl script for X-Chat which displays the messages recieved by X-Chat through the xosd library.
Enhancements:
- Added DCC chat messages support
- Added CTCP support
- Added automatic codepage chooser. Codepage setting is now deprecated.

RockBot is a fully functional multi-channel bot for IRC. It has hundreds of usefull commands for managing channels, amusing your friends, and protecting ownership. It is a good alternitive to an eggdrop type bot.
DCC model of rockbox is different like eggdrop. In RockBot YOU NEVER initiate a DCC chat with the bot. In all cases the bot will send you a DCC chat request when it needs one due to the type of data its returning. If you have trouble with DCCs it may be the bot cannotdetermine its true IP address on the machine. Try playing with "#define PPP" in config.h.
Enhancements:
- The data files and memory model were totally re-written. RockBot now uses a multiple-channel scheme for keeping track of users, and also allows one user to store multiple hostmasks under one "handle". There is also a "global" config that controls the default settings for channels and high level bot users. In order to diferentiate
- between global commands and local channel commands the following syntax has been implimented:

- When you use JOIN a data file will be created to contain the new channels users, settings, topic etc. The LEAVE command parts the bot but does NOT remove the datafiles, however REMCHAN does.

jabbot is a jabber bot written in python with a custom jabber library. I designed it to be easily extendable by other people. This is a preview release so that I can comply with the release early, release often doctrine of open source development. The program is not complete and i wull add some new features.
On my development environment (a cutting edge python 2.1 something running on a linux box), though, it _does_ currently work. It requires python (though it should work with versions before 2.1, it hasnt been tested and you know the drill), fairly recent python xml processing capability, and threads for python. It remains untested for windows, though it should work there, too. Please read the below on how to get started as it doesnt work correctly the first time you run it.
Main features:
- a jabber module for communications over jabber. This was specifically designed for jabbot, though I tried to make it general enough to be used elsewhere.
- standard jabber chat interface. Simply send a message to the jid its logged in as to get started.
- groupchat interface. Modify a line in the jabbot.config file and the bot will join the specified groupchat(s) looking like a normal chat bot. It will reply when addressed to (for instance, "botnick, help").
- http/html interface. currently starts up on 8080 but is configurable in the config file. Its kind of ugly, but at least its there. It provides the same interface as bot the other two interfaces.
- extendability. for the moment, all of the bot commands are functions in the module botfunctions.py. Anyone can add their customizations to it to give it new commands. (Itd also be nice if you add more commands to send them to me o be officialy integrated.) Simply add more functions to the module. So python hackers, hack away.

Dial-Up Bot project aims to be a fully functional automated replacement for the /etc/ppp/ip-{up,down}.d hierarchy. Its supposed to be started by cron at night. It cant satisfy the requirements of impatient roots. Its not designed for hosts with a permanent Internet connection.
Enhancements:
- This is the first public release since dubot reached minimal useful functionality and stability. Installation mech is minimally stable (at least for install in /usr/local hierarchy).
