gnome-o-phone 0.5.2

gnome-o-phone 0.5.2

Gnome-o-phone (gphone for short) is an internet telephone. more>>
Gnome-o-phone (gphone for short) is an internet telephone. In other words, if you and your friend have computers with sound cards and network connections, you can use gphone to talk to each other and save on phone bills. Gphone is definitely a work in progress and you probably shouldnt bet your business on it; if it breaks you can keep both pieces. Dont be too hard on the program, though -- the user interface is a bit rough but gphone does work pretty well.
As the name implies, it aims to be fully gnome-groovy, but that hasnt quite happened yet. Gphone is definitely a work in progress and you probably shouldnt bet your
business on it. Dont be too hard on the program, though -- although the user interface is mighty rough, gphone does actually work pretty well. Ive only tested the program over ethernet, but the data rate should be low enough to work over a reasonable modem connection.
The protocol is nominally RTP/RTCP, and gphone complies well enough with the standard to be able to talk to speakfreely. Ive only tested the UNIX version of speakfreely, but as long as you tell sfmike to use RTP and GSM compression, it seems to work fine. Maybe someday Ill add in support for other codecs; encryption is a little less likely
because Id just as soon not open that legal can of worms. One easy way to get some security would be to modify my program rtptunnel to tunnel the RTP protocol through a SSL socket instead of a straight TCP socket.
Gphone supports full duplex if your sound card has this feature. Ive had good luck using the ALSA drivers for my SB16.
Enhancements:
- gphone/gphone.c: Add Jorge Gomes Silvas patch to fix config button crash.

E-Cell System 3.1.105

E-Cell System 3.1.105

E-Cell System is a modelling and simulation software environment. more>>
E-Cell System is a concept of constructing virtual cells on computers.
E-Cell System is an object-oriented software suite for modeling, simulation, and analysis of large scale complex systems such as biological cells, architected by Kouichi Takahashi and written by a wonderful team of developers. Core part of the system, E-Cell Simulation Environment version 3, allows many components driven by multiple algorithms with different timescales to coexist.
E-Cell Project is an international research project aiming at developing necessary theoretical supports, technologies and software platforms to allow precise whole cell simulation.
E-Cell System consists of the following three major parts:
- E-Cell Simulation Environment (or E-Cell SE)
- E-Cell Modeling Environment (or E-Cell ME)
- E-Cell Analysis Toolkit
Main features:
Basic capabilities
- Object-oriented modeling and simulation of complex systems.
- Plug-in architecture. New user-object classes can be developed, dynamically loaded, and used in simulation.
- Real-time user interaction and visualization during the simulation.
Scripting
- Python scripting of a simulation session (run/stop/parameter manipulation/data processing etc...).
- Python scripting of a simulation experiment that involves many runs of the simulation sessions (such as parameter tuning, metabolic control analysis etc..)
- Python scripting of model file generation (e.g. for automated model construction from databases).
Compatibilities
- SBML level 1/2 importing.
- SBML level 1/2 exporting.
Parallel computation
- Shared-memory, multi-thread parallelization of a single simulation session. (to be merged into the main branch.)
- Cluster and grid distributed computation of multiple simulation sessions. Sun Grid Engine, (Globus toolkit).
Enhancements:
- This release includes improved ODE/DAE solvers, support for numpy, an updated empy preprocessor, and some more minor improvements.

VNC Spy 0.1

VNC Spy 0.1

VNC Spy monitors network traffic to find keystrokes entered into a VNC viewer. more>>
VNC Spy monitors network traffic to find keystrokes entered into a VNC viewer. Letters the user types are printed to your screen.

So, for example, if an engineer insists on using VNC to log in from his Windows machine into your network whenever he wants from home, try leaving vncspy running for a while. I like to use the command:

sudo vncspy eth0 | tee keylog

Note that you need to run vncspy as root. You can either su root, or sudo.

This will sniff all keystrokes he enters from home to his VNC server. Assuming he has to enter his user name and password to log-on, you should see his user name in the keylog, followed by his password. Its that simple!

When you get his password, try writing it on a sticky-note, and pasting it on his monitor. Ive found showing people their passwords to be very effective at improving their security habits.

Usage:

vncspy must be run as root. It takes only one optional parameter, the interface to sniff on. If left out, it will use the first interface on your system, typically eth0.

Compling:

The only major dependency for vncspy is the pcap development library. On Debian or Ubuntu, you may issue a command like:

sudo apt-get install libpcap0.8-dev

If your system does not have libpcap available, you can install it from source from:

http://www.tcpdump.org.

Once you have libpcap, compiling vncspy is simple. Just type:

make

It should create the vncspy program. Let me know if you need help.

Number::Phone::IE 0.2

Number::Phone::IE 0.2

Number::Phone::IE is a Perl module with Republic of Ireland-specific methods for Number::Phone. more>>
Number::Phone::IE is a Perl module with Republic of Ireland-specific methods for Number::Phone.
SYNOPSIS
use Number::Phone;
$dermots_phone = Number::Phone->new(IE, 017654321);
METHODS
The following methods from Number::Phone are overridden:
is_valid
The number is valid within the national numbering scheme. It may or may not yet be allocated, or it may be reserved. Any number which returns true for any of the following methods will also be valid.
is_allocated
The number has been allocated to a telco for use. It may or may not yet be in use or may be reserved. Not currently implemented.
is_geographic
The number refers to a geographic area.
is_fixed_line
The number, when in use, can only refer to a fixed line.
is_mobile
The number, when in use, can only refer to a mobile phone.
is_pager
The number, when in use, can only refer to a pager.
is_tollfree
Callers will not be charged for calls to this number under normal circumstances.
is_specialrate
The number, when in use, attracts special rates. For instance, national dialling at local rates, or premium rates for services.
is_adult
The number, when in use, goes to a service of an adult nature, such as porn.
is_network_service
The number is some kind of network service such as a human operator, directory enquiries, emergency services etc
country_code
Returns 353.
regulator
Returns some text in an appropriate character set saying who the telecoms regulator is, with optional details such as their web site or phone number.
areacode
Return the area code - if applicable - for the number. If not applicable, returns undef.
areaname
Return the area name - if applicable - for the number, or undef.
subscriber
Return the subscriber part of the number
operator
Return the name of the telco operating this number, in an appropriate character set and with optional details such as their web site or phone number. Not currently implemented.
format
Return a sanely formatted version of the number, complete with IDD code, eg for the Irish number (021) 765-4321 it would return +353 21 7654321.
country
If the number is_international, return the two-letter ISO country code.
NYI
Version restrictions:
- Strictly sppeaking, this kind of duplication of the Number::Phone::UK class is bad. A tidy-up is in order, though it may emerge that a completely new implemantation is better.
- The results are only as accurate as my own investigations into current allocations. User feedback welcome.
- While the names of the nominal owners of mobile prefixes are given, number portability makes this information unreliable.

Hecl Programming Language 20060803

Hecl Programming Language 20060803

Hecl Programming Language is a simple, flexible scripting language for Java. more>>
The Hecl Programming Language is a high-level scripting language implemented in Java. Hecl Programming Language is intended to be small, extensible, extremely flexible, and easy to learn and use.

Hecl is intended as a complement to the Java programming language, not a replacement. As such, it tries to do well what Java doesnt, and leaves those tasks to Java for which it is best suited.

Hecl aims to be a very immediate language - you can pick it up and start doing useful things with it quickly. It is also meant to be easy to learn. Where Java is verbose and rigid, Hecl is forgiving and quick to write. For instance, System.out.println("Hello World"); vs puts "Hello World" - 41 keystrokes (shifted letters count double) versus 22. Hecl is built to "scale down".

This makes Hecl ideal for large applications written in Java that would like to provide a user friendly scripting interface, rather than, say, a clunky XML based configuration system.

Hecl is also a small language with a minimal core. The idea is to provide only whats necessary in the language itself, and as needed, add in extensions for specific tasks.

Core Hecl is small enough to run on my Nokia 3100 cell phone as a J2ME application, presenting the interesting possibility of writing scripts, or at some point, maybe even scripting entire applications, for devices running embedded Java. As an example, you can try this MIDlet: Hecl.jar Hecl.jad
