Spread 4.0.0
Spread is an open source toolkit that provides a high performance messaging service. more>>
Spread is an open source toolkit that provides a high performance messaging service that is resilient to faults across local and wide area networks. Spread functions as a unified message bus for distributed applications, and provides highly tuned application-level multicast, group communication, and point to point support. Spread services range from reliable messaging to fully ordered messages with delivery guarantees.
Spread can be used in many distributed applications that require high reliability, high performance, and robust communication among various subsets of members. The toolkit is designed to encapsulate the challenging aspects of asynchronous networks and enable the construction of reliable and scalable distributed applications.
Spread consists of a library that user applications are linked with, a binary daemon which runs on each computer that is part of the processor group, and various utility and demonstration programs.
Main features:
- Reliable and scalable messaging and group communication.
- A very powerful but simple API simplifies the construction of distributed architectures.
- Easy to use, deploy and maintain.
- Highly scalable from one local area network to complex wide area networks.
- Supports thousands of groups with different sets of members.
- Enables message reliability in the presence of machine failures, process crashes and recoveries, and network partitions and merges.
- Provides a range of reliability, ordering and stability guarantees for messages.
- Emphasis on robustness and high performance.
- Completely distributed algorithms with no central point of failure.
Enhancements:
- Improve manageability by allowing dynamic configuration of sets of daemons without requiring a restart;
- Improve performance;
- Ease the development of Spread based applications with better membership reporting;
- Support multi-threaded forking client applications;
- Integrate a Virtual Synchrony interface;
- Provide simpler membership APIs;
- Organize and improve the software build for both Windows and Unix systems.

cdrtools 2.01.01a34
cdrtools is a tool to create disk-at-once and track-at-once CDs. more>>
cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs with a CDR/CDRW recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
cdrtools supports CD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc- and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work.
Supported features include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages.
cdrtools includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD writers.
Enhancements:
- A +-1 size realloc() problem was fixed in TOC handling for cdda2wav.
- A workaround was added for a double free problem in mkisofs, introduced with multi-extent file support, that caused it to dump core on Cygwin.

Kadischi is an alternative to Pilgrim an application for Fedora Core based LiveCD generation.
The project is still in the early stage of development and is available via CVS.
Kadischi Goals:
Build robust tools for building Fedora-based Live CDs, and putting these tools into Fedora Extras.
Create Live CDs from these tools, based entirely upon content in Fedora Core and Fedora Extras, for official "blessing".
Distribute these blessed Live CDs far and wide, through whatever clever means we can come up with.
Download:
Execute the following in a terminal (type enter when prompted for password):
export CVSROOT=:pserver:anonymous@cvs.fedora.redhat.com:/cvs/devel
cvs -z3 login
cvs -z3 co kadischi

Lars 0.99 Beta1
Lars project can help you mass-produce audio CDs from MP3s. more>>
Lars project can help you mass-produce audio CDs from MP3s.
Tell Lars which mp3s you want and Lars will turn your mp3s into wavs and burn them onto audio CDs only stopping when the CD is full. As soon as you put another valid blank CD in the drive and click the continue button, and Lars will start writing again.
Lars will also do volume normalization which can help make the volume on all the songs on the CD sound consistant.
Enhancements:
- This release fixes a problem with ID3 tags crashing Lars and MP3s with non-English filenames.
- It also helps fix compatibility problems with Linux 2.6.x, and fixes the normalize function to work with stereo samples.
