- The VectorLinux team is proud to announce the release of VectorLinux 5.8 Live CD and the first SOHO 5.8 alpha live CD and DVD. This is the final release for 5.8 standard GOLD live. The hard drive installer that has been problematic is fixed and should work well. The SOHO 5.8 alpha live comes in either CD or DVD editions. The DVD edition includes all that is in the SOHO 5.8 install release plus 62 additional language packs for KDE. The CD version has lost some functionality due to size constraints. The development tool chain and OpenOffice.org were removed.

CDnavigator is an application that files your CD, DVD in a database. It also deposits information about photos (JPG), music (MP3) and films saved in media.

You can also store another metadata as notes, rating, etc. to this data. You can search over all items and save the choises. CDnavigator supports an automatic cache that saves the most used data on harddisk.

Photos can be viewed directly in application. You download new photos from a camera, sort to the albums and prepare for roasting on CD.

You overplay music directly in CDnavigator application too. You can use set-up of genre and rating of songs at music choise.

DoxMentor4J is a standalone cross platform Web/Ajax based documentation library that is fully searchable and may be hosted in the file system, in an archive or embedded in the Java classpath.

Users create the library content structure and copy any online books or manuals into directories in the library structure. DoxMentor4J then provides a dedicated web server which presents the library as a tree structure on a web page. Users can navigate through the tree to locate online books. The tree is AJAX based so there is no large initial download of all the nodes in the content structure, instead the nodes are downloaded as they are opened.

Because DoxMentor4J is a cross platform Java based application, user can write their online library to CD/DVD or flash and have it available wherever they go on different machines and operating systems.

The web server framework classes used by DoxMentor4J is called HttpdBase4J and it supports content inside archive files or in jar and zip files in the Java classpath. The content can therefore be hosted in one compressed file, and as many documentation files are often text based this means the space saving can be meaningful. Additionally it can be more convenient to have all the content in one file.

This software also supports full text indexing and searching of content using the Lucene library. Content indexing may be enabled/disabled on a node by node basis. Search indices can be accessed inside an archive or on cd/dvd. The indexing code currently supports text, html, pdf, chm and djvu.

CD-Rchive2 is a complete revamp of the popular but now aged CD-Rchive program. It is intended to be used with cdrecord-ProDVD, cdda2wav, and mkisofs for the production of data and music CDs and data DVDs.
Built in tools allow cloning of a complete CD or DVD and writing copies. A Boot Wizard will guide you through steps required to make a bootable CD or DVD, write the code, and compile a binary menu program which runs with isolinux.
Enhancements:
- Functionality was added when ripping tracks from CD to automatically convert to .mp3 instead of .wav via a checkbox on the .wav tab page.
- This requires lame to be installed.
- A problem of occassional incorrect audio device specification on single device machines such as laptops was fixed.

cdck is a simple program for verifying CD/DVD quality. Even if all files on the disc are readable, some sectors having bad timing and could become unreadable in the future.
The tool reads a disc sector by sector, recording all reading timings, and then tells you its verdict.
cdck project can optionally write a timing table into a text file usable by gnuplot, from which graphs can be drawn.
Enhancements:
- A signed char patch for ARM, PowerPC, and s390 was merged into the main source tree.
- More verbose information about ISO9660 disks is provided.

Fedora Core Live-Spin is a Live CD based on Fedora Core.

The Fedora Unity Project is proud to announce the release of CD and DVD ISO Live-Spins. These Live-Spins are live, bootable, ready-to-use ISO images of Fedora Core with no need for installation.

Official Fedora Live images are something we all have been looking forward to seeing in the Fedora Community. Kadischi will be the tool to create such live images. Fedora Unity has recently joined forces with Kadischi to help provide testing and to release live images which we are calling "Live-Spins."

The Fedora Unity Project is proud to announce the release of a new Live-Spin CD and DVD ISO image of Fedora Core 5. These Live-Spin ISOs are based on Fedora Core 5 and all updates released as of August 21st, 2006. They are available for the i386 architecture via BitTorrent starting Monday, August 28th, 2006 via BitTorrent.

The Fedora Core 5 CD image features a 2.6.17-1.2174_FC5 kernel and GNOME 2.14.3, along with applications such as xchat, gftp, OpenOffice.org 2.0.2, and other utilities. The DVD image includes roughly "everything but the kitchen sink."

Also available at this time are "pristine" FC6T2 Live ISO images from the initial FC6T2 release.

Autofs CD Changer is a patch for autofs. It automatically changes the slots and remounts cds as needed giving the impression that they are all simultaneously mounted. Its not for much use if you use multisession stuff, but works fine for mp3 lists that span many cds.
