ExternalSiteCatalog allows you to index and search external sites in a Plone site.

ExternalSiteCatalog is a web crawler that can index external sites and make them searchable in Plone. You can specify the sites to index in a Plone Configlet, and directly index them from Plone, or let a scheduler do the job. Have a look at some of the screenshot in the doc folder of the product to get a first impression of what it looks like. Searching the external sites is done in a special portlet that is installed with ExternalSiteCatalog. External sites are not searchable in the normal Plone catalog, but are only available in a separate catalog in the portal_externalcatalog tool.

Direct indexing

All external sites are configured in the ExternalSiteCatalog configlet.
If you want to index external sites immediately, you can do so after
defining all the parameters, selecting your site, and clicking on
the "index" button in the configlet.

Crawling external sites regularly

If you want external sites to be crawled regularly every day or month,
youll have to do some extra work. Make sure to install PloneMaintenance
starting from version 1.3. Make sure that you are also regularly calling
PloneMaintenance from cron or one of the Zope schedulers.

Follow the installation instructions in PloneMaintenance!

Have a look at the portal_maintenance tool in the Zope Management
interface! It contains a lot of useful information!

Console indexing utility

The console indexing utility is a bit more complicated than doing everything
from Plone. In many cases you dont have the resources to administrate an
external utility, but if you can afford it, this tool gives you the possibility
to decouple the long running work of fetching external sites from Zope.
Basically, you can be sure that there is no Zope thread blocked with
crawling external sites for a long time. Zope is only called from the external
tool when it should index a page, so there is still some load on the
Zope server!

Please note that this external tool is not making use of the information
entered in the Plone configlet. It is completely independent! It also does
not make use of PloneMaintenance, and it is up to you to configure and
call it with a scheduler like cron.

Bundle::Catalog is a bundle to install all Catalog related modules.

SYNOPSIS

perl -MCPAN -e install Bundle::Catalog

This bundle includes all the modules used by the Perl Catalog module.

A Bundle is a module that simply defines a collection of other modules. It is used by the CPAN module to automate the fetching, building and installing of modules from the CPAN ftp archive sites.

Cdrdao records audio or data CD-Rs in disk-at-once (DAO) mode based on a textual description of the CD contents (toc-file).
Recording in disk-at-once mode writes the complete disc, i.e. lead-in, one or more tracks and lead-out, in a single step. The commonly used track-at-once (TAO) mode writes each track independently which requires link blocks between two tracks.
Older CD-recorder models forced a two second pause (pre-gap) between two tracks whereas newer models allow adjusting of the pause length in TAO mode reducing the number of link blocks to a minimal amount.
However, with TAO it is generally not possible to define the data that is written in pre-gaps. But exactly this feature makes audio CD recording interesting, e.g. by creating hidden bonus tracks or track intros in pre-gaps like it is common habit on commercial CDs.
Finally, DAO recording is the only way to write data to the unused R-W sub-channels for e.g. CD-G or CD-TEXT.
Main features:
- Full control over length and contents of pre-gaps (pause areas between tracks). Pre-gaps may be completely omitted, e.g. for dividing live recordings into tracks.

PDFCat program is a fast and lightweight catalog management application to keep track of PDF documents coming in through many possible ways.
This is not meant to be a highly available solution for complex and unified cataloguing. Instead, it aims to provide a better user experience. The unique feature of this software is its ability handle documents stored on removable devices.
Enhancements:
- This release introduces keywords and global search. It is now possible not only to
- read a documents metadata, but also update them if the document is not
- write-protected. Global Seacrh perfomes search across all catalogs by keywords,
- subject, and authors criteria. Eclipse Forms and string resources are now used. The
- application is now internationalized, as all strings are relocated to resources.
- English and Russian translations are included. Translations are separated from main
- codebase and looks like a fragment addition. Mail me in case of you would like to

Gtkcat is a quick and compact GTK disk-catalog program.

I use this to index my source code CD-ROMs and search through them. You could probably use this to catalog other things, but keep in mind the only search criteria is a filename or a filename pattern.

This program is quite a bit faster than GTKtalog, and if all you need is basic filename search capability, this should be good enough.
