Car World 0.243
CarWorld is a small driving simulator/demo I use to test various things of interest. more>>
CarWorld is a small driving simulator/demo I use to test various things of interest. It was mostly developed when I was a student. Car World is released with the full source code under the GNU General Public License.
The rendering
The two top pictures represent an slightly older version (v0.072) but graphically similar of CarWorld as it was presented for my project. v0.072 includes an OpenGL based renderer allowing
file input and displaying of texture mapped models with interpolated surface normals, real time projected shadows (as seen in the dino lights example).
background object
on screen command line to modify visual and simulation parameters
The mechanics
based on classical mechanics
uses standard metrics (Newtons, meters, seconds...)
there are no constraints on the environment surface
variable length time increments and variable increment number means "CarWorld time" is not dependent on frame rate.
adjustable simulation specs include: metrics, mass, moment of inertia around rotation axis, suspension pre load, compression damping, rebound damping, engine torque output, air friction, surface friction.

Rigs of Rods 0.31a
Rigs of Rods is a truck simulator based on soft body physics. more>>
Rigs of Rods is a truck simulator based on soft body physics.
Rigs of Rods is a simulation game based on a custom advanced soft body physics engine.
In a vast open world, you can drive trucks, control cranes and fly airplanes. The chassis and wheels deform according to the stress they bear, and crashes are interesting to see too!
The linux version is still a release candidate under compatibility testing.
The main issue is that it is compiled with a GCC 4.1.1 compiler, and there are many incompatible C++ ABI out there. So it will probably work on a gcc 4.1.1 system, and break on a gcc 3.4 or 3.6 system. I dont know if there is an easy fix to that. Be aware that upgrading your gcc may break badly your system if not done correctly, so do it at your own risk.
Also, if you see the config box, but the game crashes, check the sanity of your GLX system first (test with another GLX program) because it breaks easily. It works with NVidia drivers, but I have not tested the ATI ones.
Read the README.LINUX file for more important informations.
Enhancements:
- Boats, with a small wahoo, a Class 1 speedboat contributed by cdquicksilver, and a very large high sea tug, the Smit Rotterdam, that has a rollable platform.
- A new terrain, called "island", that is still under construction but that will soon replace the two classic RoR terrains, because they are not realistic islands.
- Infinite sea with waves. Take the Smit and sail far from the island: you will encounter high swells offshore. You can even configure the wave fields (see the datawavefield.cfg file).
- A separate configurator program. Now you must start the RoRconfig program first, to choose your configuration options, save them, then start RoR.
- Serious bugfixing: camera shaking has been dramatically reduced, and the "crash on plane crash" problem is mostly eliminated.
- Addition of the Challenger car contributed by hemicuda.

bingo-cards 1.02
bingo-cards project consists in a program to create number, word/letter, and picture bingo cards. more>>
bingo-cards project consists in a program to create number, word/letter, and picture bingo cards.
These cards can be used for entertainment in the car, in a classroom (for example, to teach the element symbols for the Periodic Table), or just with your kids.
You could also create bingo cards with little pictures of everyday objects, then call the names out in Spanish, French, Italian, or German (or whatever you fancy).
Enhancements:
- Win32 Borland CBuilder 3 version ported to Kylix Linux. All tested. Only major issue is cannot select multiple pictures for import. Note for compilation to work, put included crt1.o in /usr/lib {it is a dependency of Kylix, and is crt1.o from glibc-devel 2.1.92}.
- First port of GUI to Linux using Kylix. Seems to work fine, apart from bulk adding of pictures fo picture bingo. (need to add one at a time).

RARS 0.91_2
RARS consists of a Robot Auto Racing Simulator. more>>
RARS consists of a Robot Auto Racing Simulator.
The Robot Auto Racing Simulator (RARS) consists of a simulation of the physics of cars racing on a track, a graphic display of the race, and a separate control program (robot "driver") for each car.
The goal of the game is to implement such a control program in order to compete against other programmers. An official formula one season is held every year.
All RARS software and activities are free and open to the public. Currently only Windows and Unix versions are actively supported, but some old DOS and OS/2 code exists and it should be possible to get it back to work.
Enhancements:
- a human robot controlable with a joystick.
- It works on Windows/Linux in OpenGl or not. To try it,
- start Rars
- place the robot "human" in the selected drivers.
- set the poplist follow car to "human".
- Take your joystick and good luck.
- The real robots are very fast :-) The vc_start.exe file for Windows has been updated and contains the human boot too.
- Also, it contains the following bugs fixes:
- replay of movies works even when the car is not compiled.
- (Unix) Due that people did RPM distribution of rars, it happens that the Rars directory was not writable. Now, if the current directory is non-writable. The files are written in /tmp/
- (KDE) the -nd (no display) works now.

Cutter 1.03
Cutter is an TCP/IP Connection cutting on Linux Firewalls and Routers. more>>
Cutter is an TCP/IP Connection cutting on Linux Firewalls and Routers.
Cutter is an open source program that uses the FIN-ACK-RST packet technique described above to abort TCP/IP connections routed over the firewall or router on which it is run. It can be called using one of the following four syntaxes.
cutter ip-address
Example: "cutter 10.10.0.45"
Cuts all connections passing through the firewall between any ports on the specified ip-address (either a "private" or "public" address) and any other hosts. This can be used to close down all incoming connections to a particular server, all outgoing connections from a particular client or all outgoing connections to a server.
cutter ip-address port
Example: "cutter 200.1.2.3 80"
Cuts all connections to or from the specified ip-address/port pair. This allows the user to be a little more specific than the previous example and allows targetting of specific services on specific hosts.
cutter ip-address-1 port-1 ip-address-2
Example "cutter 200.1.2.3 22 10.10.0.45"
Cuts all connections between ip-address-2 and ip-address-1/port-1. This allows the user to cut connections between a specified "client" and a particular service on a specified host. Our example closes host 10.10.0.45s SSH connection to server 200.1.2.3.
cutter ip-address-1 port-1 ip-address-2 port-2
Example: "cutter 200.1.2.3 22 10.10.0.45 32451"
Cuts the specific connection between the two ip/port number pairs given.
IMPORTANT WARNING
Cutter has been designed for use as a administrators tool for Linux firewalls. Its use (as is, or modified) for any other purpose is not sanctioned by the author. So - do not use this tool as a parachute, or to dry your cat, chill meat, answer your phone, drive you car, teach your kids to read or attack other peoples computer systems or networks.
This software has been designed for "legal" and "appropriate" use by network security administrators and the like. It has been written as part of a larger Linux firewall project, targetting at controlling traffic from peer-to-peer software such as Kazaa, iMesh and others into and out of a private network. It is not designed as a tool for malicious use and the author in no way sanctions such use.
Users of the software should be aware that its actions are easily detectable using a number of readily available network monitoring tools, and it makes no attempt to disguise its actions. Malicious use of "cutter" could result in a jail sentance in a number of countries around the world.

Linux From Scratch 6.2-3
Linux From Scratch are instructions to create your own custom Linux system from scratch. more>>
Linux From Scratch (LFS) is a project that provides you with the steps necessary to build your own custom Linux system.
There are a lot of reasons why somebody would want to install an LFS system. The question most people raise is "why go through all the hassle of manually installing a Linux system from scratch when you can just download an existing distribution?". That is a valid question which I hope to answer for you.
The most important reason for LFSs existence is teaching people how a Linux system works internally. Building an LFS system teaches you about all that makes Linux tick, how things work together, and depend on each other. And most importantly, how to customize it to your own taste and needs.
One of the key benefits of LFS is that you are in control over your system without having to rely on somebody elses Linux implementation. You are in the drivers seat now and are able to dictate every single thing such as the directory layout and boot script setup. You will also know exactly where, why and how programs are installed.
Another benefit of LFS is that you can create a very compact Linux system. When you install a regular distribution, you end up installing a lot of programs you probably would never use. Theyre just sitting there taking up (precious) disk space. Its not hard to get an LFS system installed under 100 MB. Does that still sound like a lot? A few of us have been working on creating a very small embedded LFS system. We installed a system that was just enough to run the Apache web server; total disk space usage was aproximately 8 MB. With further stripping, that can be brought down to 5 MB or less. Try that with a regular distribution.
If we were to compare a Linux distribution with a hamburger you buy at a supermarket or fast-food restaurant, you would end up eating it without knowing precisely what it is you are eating, whereas LFS gives you the ingredients to make a hamburger. This allows you to carefully inspect it, remove unwanted ingredients, and at the same time allow you to add ingredients to enhance the flavour of your hamburger. When you are satisfied with the ingredients, you go on to the next part of putting it together. You now have the chance to make it just the way you like it: broil it, bake it, deep-fry it, barbeque it, or eat it raw.
Another analogy that we can use is that of comparing LFS with a finished house. LFS will give you the skeleton of a house, but its up to you to install plumbing, electrical outlets, kitchen, bathtub, wallpaper, etc.
Another advantage of a custom built Linux system is added security. You will compile the entire system from source, thus allowing you to audit everything, if you wish to do so, and apply all the security patches you want or need to apply. You dont have to wait for somebody else to provide a new binary package that fixes a security hole. Besides, you have no guarantee that the new package actually fixes the problem (adequately). You never truly know whether a security hole is fixed or not unless you do it yourself.
Enhancements:
- The LFS LiveCD Team is proud to announce the release of the x86-6.2-3 version of LFS LiveCD. This version is built using LFS 6.2 and many Beyond Linux From Scratch packages from the Subversion branch. Source packages for LFS 6.2, and the LFS book itself, are included on the live CD. The CD is also suitable as a host for building x86 and x86_64 Cross LFS systems. Other features and bugfixes: the CD supports hibernation; the CD file system can be written to; the CD contains a visually pleasing and easy-to-use window manager, XFce...
