cdenc 0.9.4

cdenc 0.9.4

cdenc lets you encode whole audio CDs in a special directory which can be burned on CDROM afterwards. more>>
cdenc lets you encode whole audio CDs in a special directory which can be burned on CDROM afterwards.
For other mp3 players like WinAmp the mp3 info tags are set correctly, so that you also get there the full title infos. Additionally you could generate long filenames, so that you could play the music via a shell or explorer environment. Last not least, cdenc generates html files to let you browse through with a normal html browser (but then you cant play more titles on one time).
Furthermore cdenc generates by using Gimp and mpeg2encode bitmaps for the osd of Yamakawa/Raite DVD/MP3 player. cdenc doesnt have a graphical user interfaces. As a clean commandline script, it is designed also to run on machines without X11 (number cruncher) and can work backgrounded. Once correct configured, the work with cdenc reduce to the insertion of an audio CD and the subsequent call of "cdenc -medname mp3cd001", which makes cdenc test if the CD ist not already on another media and if not starts the complete grabbing, compression and index generation.
Unfortunaly cda(xmcd) and gimp have changed a lot so that cdenc wont run with the actual versions. I will change the code to use libaudiocd, but that will take some time. Sorry for that.
Enhancements:
- replaced routine "double" through sprintf (thx to Travis Whitton)
- made cdenc ready to work with Gimp 1.1.18

PDFCube 0.0.2

PDFCube 0.0.2

PDFCube renders PDF presentations with special 3D effects (the omnipresent rotating cube and 5 predefined zoom animations). more>>
PDFCube renders PDF presentations with special 3D effects (the omnipresent rotating cube and 5 predefined zoom animations). The project adds eye-candy to your PDF presentations, even Latex, Beamer and Prosper ones.

Right now you get a 3D cube transition pressing "c" and you can zoom on 5 areas with "h", "j", "k", "l" and "z" keys or simply switching pages with double buffering (no redrawing is visible) and with full anti-alias.

If you want to program your cube transitions in advance give the page you want the transition at on the command line this way (0 means between page 1 and page 2, rudimental but will change soon):

$ pdfcube file.pdf 0 5 10

Rotating cube transition is of great effect when put on a big projection screen, so be moderate! One or two cube transitions done when changing argument can help understanding that you are switching to a new part of the presentation. On the other hand using cube transition on every page can give seasickness to your audience.

Youll need an OpenGL DRI enabled Xorg. GPL ATI 9250 driver is OK, ive not tested other cards.

This is alpha software (and right now its a quick hack too), but once you manage to get it working its fairly stable and usable.

MythDora 3.2

MythDora 3.2

MythDora is now using FC5 along with MythTV-0.20 all on DVD. more>>
MythDora 3.0 is now using FC5 along with MythTV-0.20 all on DVD. This DVD will install on various PVR builds. A few changes have been made since the 2.32 version. Hopefully good ones. One big change is that version 3.0 now runs on an SMP kernel. Another big change is that MythDora-3.0 now uses KDE and goes onto a DVD rather than a CD. With change and additions, things just couldnt fit on a CD any longer. The ISO size isnt too much bigger, about 940mb total.
There will no longer be any need for a Unichrome version as the needed bits are now in the modular Xorg-7.0. What is now being used is a single Openchrome Via rpm from the Epia repository at washington.kelkoo.net. This should be enough to allow hardware acceleration for Epia mainboards and S3 video card users.
Please read the F.A.Q. if you have any initial questions. Also look over the README file thats located on your disk. This is where you will find instructions on certain parts of MythDora. There is also an Install Notes at the top of this page which gives you a general idea of how to set things up in mythtvsetup.
MythDora 3.0 uses an auto installer that allows your system to install only on the first hard drive and not on your remaining physical hard drives. The installer uses LVM which will allow you to add another HD to your volume group if you so choose.
For those of you new to MythDora, the easiest way to install would be to use the auto install feature. This will install every package on the disk, automatically format your disk(s), create a user mythtv, setup networking, setup MythTV etc., all on the fly. When mythtvsetup finishes, mythfilldatabase will automatically start but only if you have chosen an all-in-one setup and have a valid Data Direct subscription. XMLTV users will need to run mythfilldatabase --manual in the provided xterm screen if need be. After that a reboot will take place as this seems to install your tuner card(s) a little better.
Please be sure to make the appropriate changes in the frontend setup in order for things to work correctly. This may include sound working properly, bitrate adjustment, resolution or changing channels etc.
One thing you need to make sure of is when you install in either auto or custom, please make sure you disable selinux during install !!!
Its also recommended that you do not do an "apt-get dist-upgrade" , "apt-get upgrade" or "yum upgrade" as you run the risk of breaking something. You have been warned!!.
I really want to thank those of you who gave me feedback during the beta testing. This couldnt have been done without. I really appreciate it.
Also I want to thank one of our members here, inm8, for creating the kickass new logo for MythDora. He did an outstanding job and I dont think youll be disappointed. I also added in some more eye candy for your viewing pleasure.
Enhancements:
This is a second bugfix release to version 3.0. Hopefully the last. This is mainly to give Nvidia users the chance to install Legacy drivers for older video cards. I also included a new mythstreamtv rpm with corrected code that should allow you to kill the vlc stream now. Thanks to Jeffrey Kosowsky.
- Added older 8776 Nvidia drivers
- Corrected mythstreamtv
- Updated to latest stable kernel 2.6.18-1.2257.fc5smp
- Updated to MythTV 0.20-148
- Updated ivtv 0.8.2-123
- Added two new remotes (Nebula & Technisat)

Fireworkx 1.4

Fireworkx 1.4

Fireworkx is a pyrotechnic eye-candy simulator. more>>
Fireworkx project is a pyrotechnic eye-candy simulator.
Fireworkx is a pyrotechnic eye-candy simulation that explodes in both X and SVGAlib atmospheres.
Fireworks is ported to Linux by September, 2004. It never bores me, because it explodes..! :) The code is re-written in C instead of assembly language, Hmm.. for portability, BTW.. Coding in C was a little more Comfortable and Creative. Fireworkx is fireworks for X11. The program requires a fast machine with true color graphics to function effectively.
The most painful fact was that the machine used to develop fireworkx was a Celeron(P2)-333MHz, overclocked to 343MHz :) , in which it looks like snail-works :) fireworkx will run faster on slower machines if the light effect is turned off, read the documentation available with the package.
There is also a dry version of fireworks, named FireworkZ; which explodes in svgalib atmosphere, at 640x480,16 colors. Most linux boxes should support it. You can use it also on machines where X is not installed. SVGAlib is a low level graphics library for Linux which enables access of video hardware. It comes with most Linux distributions or may be downloaded from the website svgalib.org
Both the X11 and SVGAlib versions (fireworkx & fireworkz) comes in the same package.
Enhancements:
- This version has an assembly language optimized MMX blur which runs 2-3 times faster.
- "Glow" mode was introduced, which makes the explosions more beautiful even without light-flash effect.

Ixion is a media player that uses wxWidgets and GStreamer. Its is just a simple video player that can play at double or half speed. It can be useful as an example of how to write a simple app based on wxWidgets and/or GStreamer.

Ixion is a media player written in C/C++ using wxWidgets and GStreamer. It is not a bleeding edge, full-featured, eye-candy, all-in-one application; Ixion exists only because I needed a video player that could play at double or half speed. However, it can be useful if you want to see how to write a simple app based in wxWidgets and/or GStreamer. Source code is available for download under the GPL license.

You can download the source code from the downloads section. It will compile on most *nix systems ig there are the required libraries, including GNU/Linux.

Alternatively, you can get the source code using anonymous CVS access:

Kickoff Qt Fedora 7 1.0

Kickoff Qt Fedora 7 1.0

Kickoff QT desktop panel for KDE is the best effort effort to maximize the users experience. more>>
Kickoff QT desktop panel for KDE is the best effort effort to maximize the users experience.
Kicker QT requires less clicking to launch programs because it uses the mouse over effect which is lacking in other menu launchers. it also loads plugins and uses qtcurve which is lacking in other menu launchers for that eye candy we like. The history feature keeps track of recent programs and files/documents in an organized display which is lacking in other menu launchers. Favorites is as nearly as quick as quick launcher which is lacking in other menu launchers in that it required one click.
Note: Other menu launchers includes Vista.
You can also adjust the size of the menu unlike older menu launchers which become cluttered over time and explode all over your desktop. ;^D
WARNING this is a Force install at the time and will mutilate KDEbase, not for the faint of heart! I am working on the entire KDE 3.5.7 KDE QT which will be debugged for personal use with development on mng animation.
Use this at your own risk!!!
Reboot after installing launch button respones slowly the first few seconds.
Enhancements:
- replaced suse button with FedoraBubbles kbfx button

Advanced Human Light 1.0

Advanced Human Light 1.0

Advanced Human Light is a GTK theme that uses the Murrine, Aurora, and, Clearlooks engines. more>>

Advanced Human Light 1.0 is yet another beautiful theme for Gnome users. It is actually a GTK theme that uses the Murrine, Aurora, and, Clearlooks engines.

This supports rgba* in the main window while leaving buttons, tabs, and text areas opaque so as to enhance readability and usability without sacrificing eye candy.

GNOME is an international effort to build a complete desktop environment-the graphical user interface which sits on top of a computer operating system-entirely from free software. This goal includes creating software development frameworks, selecting application software for the desktop, and working on the programs which manage application launching, file handling, and window and task management.

GNOME is part of the GNU Project and can be used with various Unix-like operating systems, most notably Linux, and as part of Java Desktop System in Solaris.

The name originally stood for GNU Network Object Model Environment, though this acronym is deprecated. The GNOME project puts heavy emphasis on simplicity, usability, and making things "just work".

SuperKaramba is a tool that allows anyone to easily create and run little interactive widgets on a KDE desktop. more>>
SuperKaramba is, in simple terms, a tool that allows you to easily create interactive eye-candy on your KDE desktop.
SuperKaramba is a tool that allows anyone to easily create and run little interactive widgets on a KDE desktop. Widgets are defined in a simple text file and can be augmented with Python code to make them interactive. Current widgets include everything from simple news headline displays to complete custom replacements for kicker, the KDE toolbar.
Currently SuperKaramba is made only for linux.

- Create cool custom toolbars that work any way imaginable
- Create little games or virtual pets that live on your desktop
