BeanCounter 0.8.7
BeanCounter enables stockmarket data analysis and performance evaluation. more>>
BeanCounter enables stockmarket data analysis and performance evaluation.
Ever wondered what happened to your portfolio on a day the market moved 500 points? Ever wondered what your portfolio returned over the last (odd and arbitrary) period? Ever wondered what the Value-at-Risk (VaR) was? Ever wondererd what the marginal risk contribution of a given stock in your portfolio was? Ever wondered what unrealized percentage gain (or loss) you made from the recent lows (or highs) ? Ever wondered if you could easily database the (public) price info on dozens of stocks for further analysis? Ever wondered if there was a simple cron job to report all this on a daily basis?
BeanCounter does all this, and provides an easy-to-use command-line tool as well as a Perl module that can be used with other pursuits. It stores its data (price, volume, earnings --- whatever Yahoo! supplies) in either a PostgreSQL or MySQL relational database system (but it can also use an ODBC connection). The (very fast) SQLite database on a flat file can also be used in either version 2.* or the newer version 3.*.
BeanCounter works with equities and equity indices from exchanges in the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. Options, foreign exchange rates, some commodities as well as US mutual funds are also supported as the data is provided by Yahoo! Downloads are efficiently batched so that information on e.g. several dozens US stocks is downloaded at once with a single HTTP request.
At some level this code is still beta in the sense that the command-line options and function interfaces might change. However, similar code has been working here since the fall of 1998.
Enhancements:
- Historical backpopulation now also adjusts closes, and the rpm.spec file has been updated.

AIM Sniff 1.0 Beta
AIM Sniff is a utility for monitoring and archiving AOL Instant Messenger messages across a network. more>>
AIM Sniff is a utility for monitoring and archiving AOL Instant Messenger messages across a network.
You can either do a live dump (actively sniff the network) or read a PCAP file and parse the file for IM messages. You also have the option of dumping the information to a MySQL database, a flat file, STDOUT, or any combination of the three.
AIM Sniff allows administrators to see how often users are chatting to monitor for abuse and you can also use AIM Sniff to monitor for cases of harassment or pirated software trading. It has been tested on FreeBSD, Linux, and OS X.
AIM Sniff is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
Enhancements:
- Several bugfixes from the alpha release are included, as well as a few feature enhancements.
- Daemon mode is now working, and there is a feature to not use a handles file (useful when using the software behind a NAT).
- In addition, the install will prompt for MySQL admin credentials for creating the database.
- Issues with the MSN message types crashing the DB and connections to the DB timing out after a period of time have been fixed.
- Also fixed is "noise" from database SQL statements.

brandgang 0.1
brandgang is a http firewall tunneling for Java applets with restricted network. more>>
brandgang is a http firewall tunneling for Java applets with restricted network.
You should install the software like this:
Extract the archive to a (home-)directory. For now there are no
installation scripts or further installation instructions.
tar -xzvf brandgang-0.1.xxx.tar.gz
WinZip users check: TAR file smart CR/LF Conversion.
You will need to create directories "var" and "lib" by hand, if your
archiver ignores empty directories. Check MANIFEST for anything
missing.
Main features:
- This transparently uses the browser configured proxy, simulating duplex communication, by multiple java.net.HttpURLConnections to a http tunnel server, that forwards the connection. Because no reference to the proxy is made, no security exceptions will be thrown for restricted applets.
-
- A combination of encryption (RSA/RC4) and message digests(MD5) is used in an effort to secure an insecure datapath. Though this comes with only a (small) telnet and SSH client, it is supposed to be easy to modify other networking applets to use tunnels.
-
- You can still use modified clients for direct connections over tcp sockets. You can also use secured connections to the tunnel server over a common tcp socket, and have the connection forwarded.
-
- The tunnel server can forward to multiple servers, handling multiple tunnels concurrently. The tunnel server can handle requests from http clients for files,
- so you dont need to run any (other) httpd to host the applets. The tunnel server can be used to enable access to a LAN. You can allow accepting and connecting hosts for the tunnel server (besides setting a Java security policy).
-
- Both server and clients are written in Java.

Albatross 1.36
Albatross is a small and flexible Python toolkit for developing highly stateful web applications. more>>
Albatross library is a small and flexible Python toolkit for developing highly stateful web applications.
The toolkit has been designed to take a lot of the pain out of constructing intranet applications although you can also use Albatross for deploying publicly accessed web applications.
In slightly less than 2600 lines of Python (according to pycount), you get the following:
An extensible HTML templating system similar to DTML that promotes separation of presentation and implementation for improved program maintainability. The templating system includes tags for:
- Conditional processing,
- Macro definition and expansion,
- Sequence iteration and pagination,
- Tree browsing,
Lookup tables to translate Python values to arbitrary template text. The ability to place Python code for each page in a dynamically loaded module, or to place each page in its own class in a single mainline.
Optional sessions, which can be either:
- Browser based sessions via automatically generated hidden form fields (cryptographically signed to ensure integrity),
- Server-side sessions via a supplied TCP session server,
- Server-side file based session store.
Applications that can be deployed as either CGI programs or as mod_python module with minor changes to program mainline. Custom deployment can be achieved by developing your own Request class.
Over 120 pages of documentation including many installable samples. A primary design goal of Albatross is that it be small and easy to use and extend. The toolkit application functionality is defined by a collection of fine grained mixin classes. Eight different application types and four different execution contexts are prepackaged, allowing you to define your own drop in replacements for any of the mixins to alter any aspect of the toolkit semantics.
Object Craft developed Albatross because there was nothing available with the same capabilities which they could use for consulting work. For this reason the toolkit is important to Object Craft and so is actively maintained and developed.
Albatross is licensed under a liberal BSD open-source license.
Enhancements:
- Improvements and fixes were made to < al-for >, < al-macro >, < al-option >, NameRecorderMixin, and the FastCGI driver.

Nuhe 0.03
Nuhe is a rule based log monitoring system, which is capable of action when rules are matched againsts log(s) activity. more>>
Nuhe is a rule based log monitoring system, which is capable of action when rules are matched againsts log(s) activity. Default Nuhe mode is to run on background (daemon), but it can also be used in foreground and log analyzer mode. Log analyzer mode just analyzes given logs and prints results to stdout; no action is taken when Nuhe is in analyzer mode.
Motive for Nuhe development started from security point of view and one purpose is to use it as a intrusion protection system that can react against certain kind of log activity. You can also use Nuhe as a vanilla "log filtering" system, that detects events from logs, logs them, but does not react against them.
One example of Nuhe usage is to use rule that detects multiple SSH connection attemps and drops IP address (e.g. with Linux iptables) where connections are coming. Nuhe is very handy in this situation, because user can configure it to ignore important IP addresses, so theyre not blocked by firewall and specify events to be indentified only by IP address information.
With that rule and action handler user can paralyze brute force attacks. However Nuhe can be described as a general rule based monitoring system which can run system commands in phases based on time and event criteria and hopefully this gives many areas of use for it.
Enhancements:
- Added reset string functionality for actions, reset strings are used to to discard associated events.
- With "lastmsg" parameter (in nuhed.conf) you can match syslog "last message repeated n times" string. Nuhe process previous syslog entry as many times as it was repeated.
- More support for upcoming nodemanager and some bug fixes and changes.

Batik 1.7 Beta 1
Batik is a Java(tm) technology based toolkit for applications or applets that want to use images in the SVG. more>>
Batik is a Java(tm) technology based toolkit for applications that want to use images in the Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) format for various purposes, such as viewing, generation or manipulation. The projects ambition is to give developers a set of core modules
which can be used together or individually to support specific SVG solutions.
Example modules are, SVG parsers, SVG generators and SVG DOM implementations. Another ambition for the Batik project is to make it highly extensible (for example, Batik allows the developer to handle custom SVG tags). Even though the goal of the project is to provide a set of core modules, one of the deliverables is a full fledged SVG browser implementation which validates the various modules and their interoperability.
With Batik, you can manipulate SVG documents if a Java framework is available. You can also use the various Batik modules to generate, manipulate, transcode and search SVG images in your applications or applets.
Enhancements:
- Major new features since the 1.6 release include DOM Level 3 Core/Events/XPath support, a near complete SMIL Animation implementation, a much improved WMF transcode, and a few SVG 1.2 features.

trafflogger 0.8.1
trafflogger is a conf-based traffic logger. more>>
trafflogger is a conf-based traffic logger. All the logged data can be displayed (graphed) via a web interface. Users can use it to get a global view of network load or to get a closer look at any of the hosts.
This is a conf based traffic logger, each conf log in/out traffic for:
some definable hosts
in a definable device
which match a (optional) definable pcap filter
All the logged data can be displayed (actually graphed) via a web cgi.
So you can get golbal view of your network load and either get a closer look for any of the hosts(very usefull if you are a [mini|wanabe]ISP). Keep in mind that you can make multiples confs for the same host/s, changing only de pcap rule, doing this you are taking photos of your network from multiples angles. You can make a conf to log web traffic, otherone to log mail traffic, and otherone to log kazaa traffic, and finally one to log all traffic. You can also use pcap filter to discrime unwanted traffic for a specific conf.
Main features:
- Coded in Perl
- rrdtool powered
- libpcap powered
- log ip traffic
- traffic grapher/analyzer
- web output
- dynamic ip support
