Pentago 0.1

Pentago 0.1

Pentago project is a two-player abstract strategy game. more>>
Pentago project is a two-player abstract strategy game.

The game is played on a 6x6 board divided into four 3x3 sub-boards. Taking turns, each player places a marble of their color (black or white) onto an unoccupied space on the board, and then rotates one of the sub-boards by 90 degrees either clockwise or counter-clockwise.

A player wins by getting five of their marbles in a vertical, horizontal or diagonal row (either before or after the sub-board rotation in their move). If all 36 spaces on the board are occupied without a row of five being formed then the game is a draw.

The program includes an AI (Artificial Intelligence).

Notalon is an application designed to make taking Cornell notes faster and easier. more>>
Notalon is an application designed to make taking Cornell notes faster and easier. Notalon is written specifically for the task of taking Cornell notes, unlike a word processor.

The idea came from the words "notes" and the "alon" suffix. Coincidentally, the title of the application is contained within the phrase "not alone", although this was completely unintended.

Wikalong is a FirefoxExtension that embeds a wiki in the SideBar of your browser, indexed off the url of your current page.
It is probably most simply described as a wiki-margin for the internet.
What are some possible uses?
- Also See. Interactive pointers on where else to look
- Discussion. Just plain old commentary
- Notes. Plain old note taking
- A roaming blog. Use kwikis blog feature and you can edit, others can view your thoughts on a site by site basis
- Web Site development (dont forget you could restrict your wiki behind http auth)
- Developer Notes, todo lists on a page by page basis.
- Corporate Notes, suggestions to developers, things theyld like to see
- Support / Sales Tool, script or advice to support team (on a per page basis, you get the idea)
- Users install for self help
- Adblock. Recording of effective Adblock filters for the current page.
- Product reviews. Perhaps eventually with Amazon-like ratings?

Freemed-YiRC 0.99 Beta

Freemed-YiRC 0.99 Beta

Freemed-YiRC is based on Freemed, but for Youth in Residential Care centers (YiRC). more>>
Freemed-YiRC is based on Freemed, but for Youth in Residential Care centers (YiRC).
Freemed-YiRC project runs on a web server, and the client can be ANY computer running a decent web browser with good table support.
FMYiRC is web-based!
- It is loaded on a Linux server at your agency.
- Your data is stored on your server at your agency.
- You own your data.
- All that is required to access FMYiRC is a computer with Internet access and a web browser
- Clients/workstations can use Windows, Linux, MacOS, etc...
- The Mozilla Firefox web browser is highly recommended
- With additional networking setup by your agency, one FMYiRC server can be used by many multiple off-site locations and mobile users.
FMYiRC was designed with security in mind
- Anyone in child care circles will tell you that all types of security are important when it comes to information relating to youth.
- For one, much consideration has to be paid to the HIPAA privacy rule!!!
- Access to FMYiRC can be restricted to the HTTPS protocol. This uses encryption (SSL) to ensure sensitive information is not intercepted by 3rd parties during transit across your network or the Internet.
- A properly configured FMYiRC Linux server will have its own firewall, in addition to the main Internet firewall at your agency.
- FMYiRC itself has a very fine-grade access control system. The administrator can control exactly what individual users have access to.
FMYiRC was designed to be reliable and fault-tolerant
- The entire design of FMYiRC was created by taking into account years of previous information system designs.
FMYiRC is easy to backup.
- There are only two major pieces to FMYiRC to backup:
- The database... very easy to backup with MySQL
- The FMYiRC software itself... contained in one place, very easy to backup using operating system utilities
- FMYiRC includes utilities to back itself up!
FMYiRC can make use of MySQL server real-time replication.
- You can set up two FMYiRC servers for a high level of fault-tolerance.
If one server goes down, users can switch over to the second server in very short order.
- Using a dual-server setup, downtime due to server maintenance or upgrades becomes next to nothing. You can switch your users to the secondary server, take the primary server down, perform the maintenance/upgrades without the pressure of a down server situation, bring it back up, switch the users back to the primary server, then do the same cycle with the secondary server if necessary.
FMYiRC is modular
- If you would like to add functionality to FMYiRC, you can do so by creating new software modules.
- Creating new modules for use with FMYiRC is relatively easy, documentation for this process is available.

XLObject 2.0.2a

XLObject 2.0.2a

XLObject is a clone of basic services offered by the Qt object model, redesigned around modern features of the C++ language. more>>
XLObject is a clone of basic services offered by the Qt object model, redesigned around modern features of the C++ language. Signals and slots are used for communication between objects. There are instances when we want some objects to know the changes of a particular object without having to write code for each interested object.
This design is common in GUI programming, where another widget needs to be notified implicitly of the change of one widget. Since the widget needs to be usable everywhere, the design should be as generic as possible. The event-generating widget should not need to know how or which widgets are informed of the event.
In older C-based toolkits, this functionality is achieved by using "callbacks" - registering pointers to functions to a processing function. The problem with callbacks is that they are not type safe, prone to crashes, and are strongly tied to the processing function.
Signal and Slots is an implementation of the Observer design pattern made popular by the Qt toolkit. It provides a much safer alternative to callbacks in addition to being built on the principles of object-oriented programming. Qt implemented this feature by dynamically adding extra information to classes during compile time with the help of an external meta object compiler.
XL Signal and Slots achieves the same functionality without the meta compiler by taking advantage of C++ templates. This direct approach is very fast compared to Qts string-based approach with the added benefit of:
Allowing all member functions to be treated as slots.
No longer needing specification of non-standard macros during class definitions.
At the same time, the library tries to follow the design of Qt as closely as possible where it:
Automatically severs the connection if either receiver or sender is destroyed so your program does not crash during the process of emitting a signal.
Lets receiver objects know which sender Object emitted the signal
Lets the compiler catch type mismatches.
Allows a slot to have a shorter signature than the signal without having to rebind types.
Optionally allows objects to be organized as object trees and achieving a concept that is more or less similar to garbage-collection.
The library aims to achieve the core signal and slots functionality very well and at the same time be as less complicated as possible. In around a thousand lines of code, the library is capable of being embedded into the application in a very tiny amount of space.
Enhancements:
- This release fixes a severe memory leak in the thread class.
- The documentation was improved in some of the utility classes.
- Options are provided to specify an optional address in server sockets.
- Some additional fixes were made in the core socket classes.

SYNOPSIS

use Net::YahooMessenger;

my $yahoo = Net::YahooMessenger->new(
id => your_yahoo_id,
password => your_password,
);
$yahoo->login or die "Cant login Yahoo!Messenger";
$yahoo->send(recipient_yahoo_id, Hello World!);

MAINTAINERS WANTED

This module is not in active maintenance now. Thus it doesnt play well with recent Yahoo! protocol updates. If you are interested in taking over this module on CPAN, please let me know your CPAN author ID to me at miyagawa[at]cpan.org.

Net::YahooMessenger is a client class for connecting with the Yahoo!Messenger server, and transmitting and receiving a message.

Since implement of a protocol is the result of analyzing and investigating a packet, it has an inadequate place. However, it is working as expected usually.

SimMon 2.4

SimMon 2.4

SimMon is a cross platform Java and Web based system monitoring tool. more>>
SimMon is a cross platform monitoring tool which runs on Solaris,Linux,Mac OS X and Windows based systems. In fact, it runs on all systems which are compatible with Java 1.4.x or higher.

Monitoring is done through the execution of existing monitoring scripts or even existing command line utilities and analysing their result (regex/returncode). The default monitoring scripts are Visual Basic Scripting based for Windows and Perl based for Solaris/Linux.

You can even add/develop your own monitoring scripts to the SimMon Agent System. Even SNMP (v1) devices can be monitored by the integrated SimMon SNMP Scheduler.

The agents run autonomous on the monitored systems which mean that there is no need of a permanent connection between the SimMon agent and the GUI or other components of the SimMon architecture.

Actions can be taken if defined in a monitoring task. This can range from communicating problems via mail or even by taking administrative actions like restarting a service or process.

Wizard dialogs are included to ease up the configuration of your SimMon environment. Almost the complete configuration of the SimMon takes place in XML so you can easily copy,alter configurations directly in the configuration files.

The free version of SimMon is not a demo version, but a fully functional version. The Pro version delivers more functionalities to the subscribed users and uses the same technology as the freeware version.

Crypt::UnixCrypt 1.0

Crypt::UnixCrypt 1.0

Crypt::UnixCrypt is a perl-only implementation of the crypt function. more>>
Crypt::UnixCrypt is a perl-only implementation of the crypt function.

SYNOPSIS

use Crypt::UnixCrypt;
$hashed = crypt($plaintext,$salt);

# always use this modules crypt
BEGIN { $Crypt::UnixCrpyt::OVERRIDE_BUILTIN = 1 }
use Crypt::UnixCrypt;

This module is for all those poor souls whose perl port answers to the use of crypt() with the message `The crypt() function is unimplemented due to excessive paranoia..

This module wont overload a built-in crypt() unless forced by a true value of the variable $Crypt::UnixCrypt::OVERRIDE_BUILTIN.

If you use this module, you probably neither have a built-in crypt() function nor a crypt(3) manpage; so Ill supply the appropriate portions of its description (from my Linux system) here:

crypt is the password encryption function. It is based on the Data Encryption Standard algorithm with variations intended (among other things) to discourage use of hardware implementations of a key search.

$plaintext is a users typed password.

$salt is a two-character string chosen from the set [a-zA-Z0-9./]. This string is used to perturb the algorithm in one of 4096 different ways.

By taking the lowest 7 bit of each character of $plaintext (filling it up to 8 characters with zeros, if needed), a 56-bit key is obtained. This 56-bit key is used to encrypt repeatedly a constant string (usually a string consisting of all zeros). The returned value points to the encrypted password, a series of 13 printable ASCII characters (the first two characters represent the salt itself).
Warning: The key space consists of 2**56 equal 7.2e16 possible values. Exhaustive searches of this key space are possible using massively parallel computers. Software, such as crack(1), is available which will search the portion of this key space that is generally used by humans for passwords. Hence, password selection should, at minimum, avoid common words and names. The use of a passwd(1) program that checks for crackable passwords during the selection process is recommended.

The DES algorithm itself has a few quirks which make the use of the crypt(3) interface a very poor choice for anything other than password authentication. If you are planning on using the crypt(3) interface for a cryptography project, dont do it: get a good book on encryption and one of the widely available DES libraries.
