BBCD - Bootable Cluster CD 2.2.1c

BBCD - Bootable Cluster CD 2.2.1c

The BCCD was created to facilitate instruction of parallel computing aspects and paradigms. more>>
BCCD - Bootable Cluster CD was created to facilitate instruction of parallel computing aspects and paradigms. Part of the difficulty instructors face is lack of dedicated resources to explore distributed computing aspects lack of time to preconfigure and test the supporting environment.

The BCCD image addresses this problem by providing a non-destructive overlay way to run a full-fledged parallel computing environment on just about any workstation-class system...Were happy to say that this now includes the MAC too!

The BCCD does share similarities with a few diskless solutions for clustering, such as the Warewulf project, the thin-OSCAR approach, Cluster Knoppix (only an openMosix system, no MPI/LAM/PVM build tools, ...), and so on. This is definitely the trend in HPC. But the main differences are that the BCCD will always fit in your pocket, be highly customizable for specific institutions needs, and will always be geared toward education and not dedicated clusters.

The "gar" build system also sets the BCCD apart from other projects. "gar" is a mix between BSDs "ports" system, Linux from scratch, and gentoo Linux. With gar, you can build an entire BCCD image from net-fetched sources in about two hours (assuming you have a primed ccache!).

The BCCD is also distinctly different from NPACI-Rocks, OSCAR, Cluster in a box or other type of mass-imaging clustering project for two reasons:

1. Its a non-destructive overlay on top of the current hardware. Once a system is rebooted, it reverts back to its original state. It is intended to be booted "over top" of a currently-configured Windows/Linux/BSD/etc. system.
2. Its focus in on educational aspects of High-Performance Computing (HPC) instead of the HPC core. Students will have a much better appreciation and understanding of how to tweak an MTU setting or wire the topology across a cluster if they understand how a distributed computation is laid out! Emphasis is placed upon building, configuring, and running distributed applications.

Php Gmail Drive 0.3.2

Php Gmail Drive 0.3.2

PhpGmailDrive (PGD) turns your Gmail account into a Web based file server. more>>
PhpGmailDrive is a new type of file sharing utility. Unlike typical file servers (say xDrive) it uses Gmail as backend file server. You can enjoy it simply by hosting a small PHP script in your web site without any database.
Gmail file space is more than 2GB, so you can imagine you already have such a big space on internet. However, you will require a Gmail account (If you dont have any Gmail address, go GmailSwap or ask your friends.).
PGD automatically connects Gmail server and fetches list of all attached files and generate downloadable links in a tree like view. If you are looking for a file server to upload your music or notes without any hassle, PGD is ideal for you. Technically speaking PGD is wrapper of Gmailer .
Thought there is no need to know hecks of PHP or Gmailer. Just you have to check that your PHP hosting service provider has curl extension of PHP to handle HTTP/HTTPS traffic.
Main features:
- Successfully connects to Gmail and only grabs list of Attachments in Gmail messages.
- List of attachments are displayed with inbuilt Javascript engine. You can customize output to any other formats.
- 100% compliant to GMAILFS. So you can upload with Windows Gmail Shell extension or Linux GmailFS utilities..
- Supports Multiple Gmail accounts in the same script .
- Supports all browsers.
- Total size is less than 100 KB.

BORG Calendar and Task Tracker 1.6

BORG Calendar and Task Tracker 1.6

BORG is a combination calendar and task tracking system. more>>
BORG is a combination calendar and task tracking system. The calendar supports simple todos. The Task Tracker goes way beyond todos.
BORG is basically meant to be a small self-contained Java application that you can run locally. Many users run BORG Calendar and Task Tracker from a thumb drive.
BORG actually stands for Berger-Organizer. Unfortunately, the name BORG seems to be a popular choice for software products, probably due to the number of Star Trek fans that write code. The fact that BORG calendar also seems to refer to the Microsoft Outlook calendar makes things even more confusing. Oh well....
Why would anyone want to use a home-grown calendar/task tracker when there are so many others out there, freeware and otherwise?
A potential BORG user might agree with the following:
- I use a calendar/task tracker to remind me to do everything in life that I have to do.
- I do not want to set up a web server just to see my calendar
- I do not want to access the internet to see my calendar
- I work on Linux, Windows and other OSs and would like any of my machines to run my calendar program
- I dont want to have to worry about my calendar not working if I upgrade linux, windows, glibc, mySQL, apache, < fill in any third-party software that causes things to stop working >, etc...
- I like open source software. Even if the developer(s) die, I can still build and enhance my calendar program.
Main features:
- Nice Month-at-a-time view
- To-Do list
- Month-print
- Repeating Appointments
- Private Appointments that do not show by default (for recording things like "rectal exam 2pm" that you dont need your friends/coworkers to see over your shoulder).
- The Task Tracker tracks issues and tasks through a set of states with start and end dates, sub-tasks, descriptions, and resolutions.
- Pop-up reminders
- Email reminders
- User tunable task types and state transitions in the task tracker
- Week and Day Views
- A simple address book
- File-based DB or MySQL DB
- XML import/export
- iCal import/export
- more ...

GD::Image::Thumbnail 0.02

GD::Image::Thumbnail 0.02

GD::Image::Thumbnail is a Perl extension for creating thumbnailed images with GD. more>>
GD::Image::Thumbnail is a Perl extension for creating thumbnailed images with GD.

SYNOPSIS

use GD::Image::Thumbnail;

my $img = GD::Image->new(100,20);

my $thm = $img->thumbnail; # same as { factor => 0.20 }
my $thm = $img->thumbnail($n); # same as { side => $n }

my $thm = $img->thumbnail({ factor => 0.25 });
my $thm = $img->thumbnail({ factor => 0.25, small => 1 });

my $thm = $img->thumbnail({ side => $n });
my $thm = $img->thumbnail({ side => $n, small => 1 });

my $thm = $img->thumbnail({ w => $w });
my $thm = $img->thumbnail({ h => $h });
my $thm = $img->thumbnail({ w => $w, h => $h });

my $thm = $img->thumbnail({ w => $w, small => 1 });
my $thm = $img->thumbnail({ h => $h, small => 1 });
my $thm = $img->thumbnail({ w => $w, h => $h, small => 1 });
thumb() ^
thumb() is shortcut for thumbnail() - useful for people who like to bite their nails :)
$img->thumbnail(@thm_args)
and
$img->thumb(@thm_args);
are doing the same thing

OPTIONS

factor => $n

This makes a thumbnail $n (0.20 by default) times the size of the original. Only a two decimal place number between 0 and 1 are allowed. If a factor is given side, h, and w are all ignored

side => $n

Makes the side that will result in a larger thumbnail $n pixels (or opposite if small => 1). If side is given then h and w are ignored.

w => $x and h => $y

You can specify one or both of these. If only one is given it makes that side that dimention. If you specify both, the side that will result in a larger thumbnail (based on the images orientation and *not* the values of w and h if different), is used (or opposite if small => 1).

small => 1

If true make the images the smallest possible. This will round down instead of up when rounding is necessary and will help decide which side gets set to the given value.

$img->thumbnail(10); # 100 x 25 image becomes 40 x 10
$img->thumbnail({ side => 10, small => 1}); # 100 x 25 image becomes 10 x 2
resample => 1

If true use copyResampled() instead of copyResized() See GDs documentation about the difference. This can also be turned on by specifying a true value as the second argument:

$img->thumbnail($n, 1);
$img->thumbnail({ factor => $n }, 1);

Image Tree is a complete and versatile photo publishing system in less than 200 lines of code. more>>
Image Tree is a complete and versatile photo publishing system in less than 200 lines of code.

ImgTree is based only on three files:

index php : contains all the php and html code. Must be put, unmodified in every folder of the directory tree.
data.php : contains the specific settings of every folder
style.css : the css style sheet

Every folder of the folder tree must contain the three files. Clearly index.php and style.php should be simply linked:

imgtree/
|-- data.php
|-- index.php
|-- style.css
|-- Section-A
| |-- data.php
| |-- index.php -> ../index.php
| |-- style.css -> ../style.css
| |-- 01-thumb.jpg
| |-- 01.jpg
| |-- 02-thumb.jpg
| |-- 02.jpg
| `-- ...
`-- Section-B
|-- data.php
|-- index.php -> ../index.php
|-- style.css -> ../style.css
|-- 00.jpg
|-- Subsection-B1
| |-- data.php
| |-- index.php -> ../index.php
| `-- style.css -> ../style.css
| |-- cover.jpg
`-- Subsection-B2
|-- data.php
|-- index.php -> ../index.php
|-- style.css -> ../style.css
|-- 01-thumb.jpg
|-- 01.jpg
|-- 02-thumb.jpg
|-- 02.jpg
`-- ...

Every folder act as a section and the behaviour can be choose between:

index : Contains a list of links to every subfolder of the current folder. For every section an image and a description are shown.
thumb : Thumbnails page. Shows every image file of the folder. Thumbnail must be named "xxx-thumb.jpg" for the xxx.jpg file. Ex: 01-thumb.jpg -> 01.jpg ; tramonto-thumb.jpg -> tramonto.jpg ; ecc.
cover : Cover page. Shows an image, a text and an associated link

The file data.php contin the settings specific for every section:

$gallerystart : is the gallery start to generate the back-menu. The path must be relative to the starting folder of the site
$name : name used to link the current section in the menus
$title : page title
$description: description, used as subtitle and for brief description in index pages
$indeximage : image used in index pages to link this section
$type : type of the page (cover|thumb|index)
$imgtitle : associtive array of the images descriptions. Used only by "thumb" pages
$coverimage : image used by "cover" pages
$covertext : text used by "cover" pages
$coverlink= : link used by "cover" pages
$covertitle : title used by "cover" pages

webCDwriter 2.7.3

webCDwriter 2.7.3

webCDwriter can be used to make the CD- and DVD-writer(s) connected to a Linux box available to all users in your network. more>>
webCDwriter can be used to make the CD- and DVD-writer(s) connected to a Linux box available to all users in your network.
It consists of the server CDWserver and the clients webCDcreator and rcdrecord. CDWserver stores the files transmitted by the clients, reserves the CD-writer and controls the CD-writer using cdrecord.
webCDcreator is a Java applet that runs within your browser or by Java Web Start, assists you when putting together a CD, and transmits the files. Finally rcdrecord is a command line client that tries to offer the functionality of cdrecord over the network with full multi-user support.
Main features:
- multi user support
- the client webCDcreator can run as a JavaTM Web Start application or as an applet within your browser
- fully web-based - no installation on the clients
- supports data CDs, audio CDs and multisession
- use the image of a bootable floppy to make a bootable CD for PCs
- the ISO image of data CDs is created while burning (saves time and disk space)
- MP3 decoding for audio CDs using mpg123
- multi writer support (connected to the same server) burning independent sessions
- export of server directories
- verifying the CD after writing it (optional)
- copying a data CD in a CD-ROM drive on the server "on the fly" to the CD-writer
- user accounts
- upload the files from one machine and burn them by another one
- command line client rcdrecord
Internationalization:
- Catalannew, Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Korean and Spanish web pages
- Catalannew, Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Sloveniannew, Spanish and Swedish messages in webCDcreator
- If you get empty boxes instead of the characters, try to modify your font.properties file.
- Note: Chinese and Korean support is still experimental. I need feedback on this!

GD::Thumbnail 1.01

GD::Thumbnail 1.01

GD::Thumbnail is a thumbnail maker for GD. more>>
GD::Thumbnail is a thumbnail maker for GD.

SYNOPSIS

use GD::Thumbnail;
my $thumb = GD::Thumbnail->new;
my $raw = $thumb->create(test.jpg, 80, 2);
my $mime = $thumb->mime;
warn sprintf "Dimension: %sx%sn", $thumb->width, $thumb->height;
open IMG, ">thumb.$mime" or die "Error: $!";
binmode IMG;
print IMG $raw;
close IMG;
or
use CGI qw(:standard);
use GD::Thumbnail;
my $thumb = GD::Thumbnail->new;
my $raw = $thumb->create(test.jpg, 80, 2);
my $mime = $thumb->mime;
binmode STDOUT;
print header(-type => "image/$mime");
print $raw;

This a thumbnail maker. Thumbnails are smaller versions of the original image/graphic/picture and are used for preview purposes, where bigger images can take a long time to load. They are also used in image galleries to preview a lot of images at a time.

This module also has the capability to add information strips about the original image. Original images size (in bytes) and resolution & mime type can be added to the thumbnails upper and lower parts. This feature can be useful for web software (image galleries or forums).

This is a Yet Another type of module. There are several other thumbnail modules on CPAN, but they simply dont have the features I need, so this module is written to increase the thumbnail population on CPAN.

The module can raise an exception if something goes wrong. So, you may have to use an eval block to catch them.

Slax AoE LiveCD 0.5

Slax AoE LiveCD 0.5

Slax AoE LiveCD is a bootable CD with AoE target and AoE iniziator programs. more>>
Slax AoE LiveCD is a bootable CD with AoE target and AoE iniziator programs. It can be used as AoE server/client.
It is almost standard Slax Frodo Edition with some modules needed to use AoE.
Usage:
Boot from a CD. Login as root with password toor. Then you have three possibility:
You can export partition as
vblade 0 0 eth0 /dev/sda2
You can use vbladed, so the program will be daemonized and its output will be sent to the logger program:
vbladed 0 1 eth0 /dev/sda3
You can use vbladectl. vbladectl is written by me for lazy people:
vbladectl start sda4
This will launch vblade as: vblade 0 0 eth0 /dev/sda4. Logging will be done in /tmp/log.
If you want to change shelf just do:
export SHELF=2
The same valid for slot number, interface and logging place:
export SLOT=4
export IF=eth2
export LOG=/var/log
To stop exporting do:
vbladectl stop sda4
Now if you will start exporting again it will start with the same slot value.
To stop and remove link from /service directory (forgetting slot number):
vbladectl remove sda4
vbladectl will increment slot number automatically. You should not increment it yourself every time by exporting SLOT variable. If you removed exported disks and want to start from 0 again than remove file /var/run/vblademem
You also can pass multiple disks to the script:
vbladectl start "sda1 hda3 sda4"
vbladectl remove "sda1 hda3 sda4"
Enhancements:
- Slax was upgraded to version 5.1.8, vblade to 13, and nmap to 4.11.
- The standard Slackware rc.inet1 was added.
- It is now possible to set a static IP address if you install the distribution onto a hard drive.

Make CD-ROM Recovery 0.9.7

Make CD-ROM Recovery 0.9.7

Make CD-ROM Recovery is a disaster recovery CD-ROM maker. more>>
Make CD-ROM Recovery makes a bootable (El Torito) disaster recovery image (CDrec.iso), including backups of the linux system to the same CD-ROM (or CD-RW) if space permits, or to a multi-volume CD-ROM set. Otherwise, the backups can be stored on another local disk, NFS disk or (remote) tape.

After a disaster (disk crash or system intrusion) the system can be booted from the CD-ROM and one can restore the complete system as it was (at the time mkCDrec was run) with the command /etc/recovery/start-restore.sh

Disk cloning (clone-dsk.sh script) allows one to restore a disk to another disk (the destination disk does not have to be of the same size as it calculates the partition layout itself). A thrid script, restore-fs.sh, will restore only one filesystem to a partition of your choice, and the user can choose with which filesystem the partition has to be formatted.

Linux 2.2.x, 2.4.x and 2.6.x kernels are supported, and if size of the kernel is not too big a boot floppy can be made, otherwise a 2.88 Mb boot floppy will be emulated on CD-ROM.

MkCDrec supports ext2 , ext3, minix, xfs , jfs, reiserfs file systems, LVM and software RAID (multiple devices). Each file system is backed up as a compressed tar archive (including the tar log). The compress program used is the users choice (compress, gzip, bzip2, lzop,...)

But there is more: msdos, fat, vfat and ntfs mounted partitions are recognized and are saved as compressed dumps (on CD, tape, etc.)
The user has the possibility to encrypt all backups with openssl if desired (see the Config.sh configuration file for more information).

To restore your system completely just boot from the first CD-ROM made by mkCDrec and type "/etc/recovery/start-restore.sh " to restore everything from CD. Automatic Disaster Recovery and One Button Disaster Recovery are supported by mkCDrec too.
With the clone-dsk.sh script one can restore selective a disk or partitions to another free disk.

mkCDrec supports IDE (inclusive ATA), SCSI disks, hardware RAID based disks (e.g. Compaq SMART2 Disk Array), LVM and software RAID. With an El-Torito CD-ROM you can boot from an IDE or SCSI based CD-ROM drive on IA32/64, powermac and x86_64 GNU/Linux based computer systems only.
