Bind9 LDAP sdb driver 1.0 / 1.1.0
Bind9 LDAP sdb driver is an attempt at an LDAP back-end for BIND 9 using the new simplified database interface sdb. more>>
Bind9 LDAP sdb driver is an attempt at an LDAP back-end for BIND 9 using the new simplified database interface "sdb". Using this you can store zones in LDAP rather than in files.
Note that when using sdb, the zones are not cached in memory, BIND will do a database lookup whenever it gets a query. If you want to store zones in LDAP but still have BIND do caching, you may be interested in the ldap2zone tool.

web-nsupdate 1.0
web-nsupdate is a web-based dynamic DNS update utility. more>>
web-nsupdate is a web-based dynamic DNS update utility.
The web-nsupdate package provides a simple, web-based facility for clients to send dynamic DNS updates. Clients are typically DHCP hosts, such as a Linux system acting as a gateway for residential broadband service.
The client sends a simple web request (such as with the wget(1) or lynx(1) commands) to the web-nsupdate service to register their host request.
This package has been tested on a server with the following Debian packages:
* bind9 (ver 9.2.4-1)
* apache2 (ver 2.0.54-5)
* php4 (ver 4.3.10-16)
BE ADVISED: Its a pain in the butt to configure BIND to do dynamic DNS. You are going to need to do that to make "web-nsupdate" work. These instructions describe that process, so follow carefully. I *strongly* urge you to review the dnssec-keygen(8) and nsupdate(8) man pages first, so you can get some idea of what we are trying to accomplish.
Installation Instructions:
1. Copy the "web-nsupdate" files to a location such as
"/usr/local/lib/web-nsupdate". It is OK to install somewhere else,
just adjust the following directions accordingly.
2. Generate a TSIG key that "web-nsupdate" will use to authenticate
itself to the DNS server.
SECURE THIS KEY! Do not leave readable copies around. This key can
be used to make changes to DNS records managed by "web-nsupdate".
Here are the steps to generate the key:
cd /usr/local/lib/web-nsupdate
/usr/sbin/dnssec-keygen -a HMAC-MD5 -b 512 -n HOST web-nsupdate
chmod 440 Kweb-nsupdate*
# Below, adjust "www-data" to the GID your web server runs under.
chgrp www-data Kweb-nsupdate*
3. Setup the "web-nsupdate" definitions file, starting with the provided
sample. This file needs to be secured, to protect the client passwords
from being revealed.
cd /usr/local/lib/web-nsupdate
cp nsupdate-defs.php.sample nsupdate-defs.php
chmod 640 nsupdate-defs.php
# Below, adjust "www-data" to the GID your web server runs under.
chgrp www-data nsupdate-defs.php
vi nsupdate-defs.php
4. Verify that "nsupdate.php" has the correct path to the "nsupdate-defs.php"
file.
vi nsupdate.php
# Check the require_once() statement near the top.
5. Symlink the update script into your web site.
# Below, adjust "/var/www/nsupdate.php" to a location in your web server.
ln -s /usr/local/lib/web-nsupdate/nsupdate.php /var/www/nsupdate.php
At this point, the "web-nsupdate" front-end is configured. Now to
configure the nameserver back-end.
6. Assuming you dont already have a place for nameserver keys, create
a new file called "named.keys" that contains the TSIG key that
"web-nsupdate" will use. The file will look something like:
key web-nsupdate {
algorithm HMAC-MD5;
secret "jzzoMR4ocgZGq5pQho2Pr5r9DDHT4lWK8QO09cpvVtpvHqaUdzktBs1DHCslpPR8PwXU3ni8zjST/5FxEwg44Q==";
};
Replace the "secret" value show above with the key in the
"Kweb-nsupdate.+157+nnnnn.private" file you generated in step 2.
7. Install the "named.keys" file to the directory where your "named.conf"
resides. This file needs to be secured, to protect your namesever
from unauthorized updates.
If your "named.conf" directory is "/etc/bind", do:
# Below, adjust /etc/bind to directory where named.conf lives.
mv named.keys /etc/bind/named.keys
chmod 400 /etc/bind/named.keys
# Below, adjust "bind:bind" to the UID:GID your nameserver runs under.
chown bind:bind /etc/bind/named.keys
8. Add a line to your "named.conf" that says:
include "named.keys";
9. Modify your "named.conf" to list each host that web-nsupdate will
be updating. If, for example, you want to allow dynamic updates
from hosts "host1.example.com" and "host2.example.com", then modify
the "example.com" stanza in "named.conf" and add two lines:
zone "example.com" {
type master;
.
.
.
# add the lines below, one per host in thie zone
update-policy {
grant web-nsupdate. name host1.example.com. A;
grant web-nsupdate. name host2.example.com. A;
};
};
10. Test the update capability. Point your web browser to the installed
"nsupdate.php" script. This should bring up a form for manual
entry. Submit your entry, and verify the update was successful.

Zoned 0.1.1
Zoned project provides DNS zone database clustering for BIND9. more>>
Zoned project provides DNS zone database clustering for BIND9.
Zoned works in conjunction with the BDBHPT DLZ module for BIND9 (9.4.0+). Zoned manages the backing-store Berkeley DB database, and utilizes the Berkeley DB Replication Base API to provide high availability and load distribution to a coherent DNS zone infrastructure.
Zoned includes the zoned(1) server replication node, zonectl(1) command line utility for managing server nodes and editing DNS zone records, and a Perl module, Zoned. All changes to DNS zone data must be processed through a Zoned node, preferably using the command-line utility or Perl library. Alternatively, an ASN.1 message schema definition is provided, defining the messaging protocol for node communication, which can be used to build your own tools for interacting with the cluster.
Zoned and Berkeley DB autonomously manage the cluster and cluster messaging (including transparently routing all zoned edits to the master, per BerkeleyDB Replication requirements). You must enumerate cluster nodes through SRV resource records. This list specifies all nodes which should participate in the cluster, not necessarily all available nodes. This list determines who and where each node should peer with, and serves as a parameter to determining whether a transaction has been successfully committed (more than one-half of enumerated nodes have written out a zone edit). The SRV node enumeration modifications are automatically detected with a configurable check interval.
To compile Zoned you need: GNU Make, libarena, libevnet, libevent, asn1c, and Lua.
Zoned has been successfully compiled and run on Debian GNU/Linux i386, and OpenBSD 4.0 AMD64 platforms. Zoned is new software, and it may take some elbow grease to build properly.
libevnet requires C-Ares and OpenSSL.
Zoned is a Work-in-Progress. Node authentication is not yet implemented, but will use TLS and X.509 certificate verification. Currently node discovery occurs through an SRV query, which is expected to enumerate all current nodes.

ZoneMaker 0.9
ZoneMaker is a script for making BIND zone files. more>>
ZoneMaker is a script for making BIND zone files. ZoneMaker uses files similar to ini files to simplify updating several zone files simultaneously.
The script is fully capable of producing both normal and reverse zones as well as being able to produce HINFO, TXT and LOC records.
Currently there is no IPv6 support, although it is planned for a future release. Some knowledge about how zone files work is required to use this script effectively.
Main features:
- Supports both normal and reverse zones
- Supports a special global zone for using BIND9 views
- Supports a wide range of Record types
Installation:
After untarring the archive, youll want to first edit config.py. This file defines where the other files will be located. If you plan on running the script out of the tarball directory you should only need to modify OutputLocation.
Otherwise, change the options to suit.
The next step is to modify zones.conf and hosts.conf to suit your own needs a full list of options for each file can be found below
The format for hosts.conf and zones.conf is as follows
[section]
option1: value
option2: value
option3: value
In the above example, section would be the zone or host name. Options are not case sensitive, their values, however, are.

phpQLAdmin 2.3.7
phpQLAdmin is designed primarily for administration of a QmailLDAP user database. more>>
phpQLAdmin is designed primarily for administration of a QmailLDAP user database, but also has (local/remote) EZMLM management, Bind9/LDAP (using the LDAP SDB driver), QmailLDAP/Controls and Apache Web server management abilities (using the mod_cfg_ldap module).
Version restrictions:
- Lots of Bind9 manager fixes (now supports AFSDB and round-robin pointers).
- Spelling errors in the use of some defines which led to broken user login and creation were fixed.
- The always-broken session handling was fixed.
- Some hardcoded attributes were replaced with corresponding (already existent) defines.
Enhancements:
- This is almost a complete rewrite of the automount manager.
- Small fixes were made in regard to deleting DNS host(s) when removing a Web server virtual host.
- The changing of a record type (from CNAME to A record for example) in the DNS manager was fixed.
- Copying or moving a virtual host from one physical Web server to another is supported.
- A long-standing problem was finally fixed regarding the initial folded branch tree in Opera.

Kuliax 6.0
Kuliax project is an effort to bring Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) to University education, especially in Indonesia. more>>
Kuliax project is an effort to bring Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) to University education, especially in Indonesia. Many students and lecturers have been "addicted" to the closed-source and expensive software that they couldnt afford or not suitable with their needs. Universities encouraged to do something important to the _real_ meaning of education by using and developing FOSS.
FOSS gives civitas academica freedom to use, study, modify, and distribute all software released under its licenses. We should spend more money to the empowerment of human resources, instead of products. This is great, if each universities generate as many as possible people who can develop themself and their surrounding with true and open knowledge, the one that forgeted by some/most education institutions.
Kuliax Project provides bridge between students, lecturers, and civitas academica to cooperate with each other. In Bahasa Indonesia, its called Gotong Royong. Like the logo which symbolizes peoples hands that holds one to another, making a square.
The near possible milestone to reach that goal is developing Linux distro to fit University or Campus needs and invite people to join in.
Kuliax, is one of the implementation for the first milestone, Linux distro for Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related department, but its likely can be used by some others departments as well. It tries to provide "base system" and applications suited to the curriculum/syllabus.

Yaala 0.7.3
Yaala is a very flexible analyser for all kinds of logfiles. more>>
yaala is a very flexible analyser for all kinds of logfiles. It uses parsers to extract information from a logfile, an SQL-like query language to relate the information to each other and an output-module to format the information appropriately.
Yaala can process many of the logs created by a network demon. Unfortunately I didnt get to write parsers for all formats yet. If you want a special logfile to be supported and can provide me with about 1000-5000 lines of logfiles its quite likely to happen.. In the meantime the provided parsers show yaalas potential: From web- (CLI, Apache) and proxy-logs (Squid) to DNS- (Bind9) and MTA-logs (Postfix). For a full list of all parsers see the features page.
Since yaala is written in Perl it is supposed to run on any platform which is supported by Perl. I have heard that people have it running under MS Windows, so it really should run everywhere.. It doesnt depend on any external libraries, however for full functionality you might need to install Storable (part of the Perl distribution since version 5.8) and GD::Graph. But this really is optional.
Main features:
- Output modules (more information at the samples page)
- Combined
- Classic
- Input modules
- Common Log Format
- Combined Log Format (Apache)
- WN-Server Detailed Log Format
- Xferlog Format (wu-ftpd, proftpd, etc.)
- Squid Access Log Format
- Postfix entries in the maillog
- Bind9 Query Log Format
- SQL-like query language to select the information youre interested in
- Highly configurable level of detail
- Portable (hopefully all systems perl is running on)
- Script-friendly: All configuration options can be set via the command line
- Persistent data: You dont need to keep old logfiles and speedup for huge files
- Free (distributed under the terms of the GPL)
Enhancements:
- Two minor bugfixes have been applied.

SysCP 1.2.16
SysCP (System Control Panel) is an ISP server management tool. more>>
SysCP (System Control Panel) is an ISP server management tool for Web-based administration of a Web server (Apache), mail server (Postfix, Courier), FTP server (ProFTPd), database (MySQL), and nameserver (Bind).
The project was founded in autumn 2003 by Florian Lippert and was published on June, 15th 2004 under the GNU General Public Licence (GPL). SysCP is developed for use with Debian, but with some modifications it should run on every server system.
Main features:
Customer Interface
- managing email accounts with catchall-function
- managing email forwarders
- managing subdomains
- managing mysql databases
- managing additional ftp account
- managing of passwords
- managing password protections for directories
- managing path options for example directorylisting and own error-documents
- access to webmail(if installed)
- access to PHPmyAdmin(if installed)
- language preference (german, english, french, catalan, chinese, spanish, portuguese)
Admin Interface:
- managing of resellers: you can define -like how you do with customers- all ressources that are available for an additional Admin. Also you can define if resellers can see all or none of domains/customers
- managing of customers: you can define exactly what kind of resources your customers get (e.g. amount of pop accounts, amount of mysql databases etc.)
- manage domains: you can individualy edit zone files and directory index per domain as well as further manipulations of Apache directives via own vhost-Settings
At the moment SysCP supports the following daemons by default:
- webserver: Apache 1.3 with PHP4
- mail transfer agent: Postfix
- pop/imap server: Courier
- ftp server: ProFTPd
- database server: MySQL
- nameserver: Bind9
- traffic accounting and statistics: Webalizer
Postfix, Courier and ProFTPd will be configured to get their user information directly from the SysCP database. You dont need to add and maintain local users to get this daemons to work. Apache and Bind will be configured through two configuration files (/etc/apache/vhosts.conf and /etc/bind/syscp_bind.conf).
Enhancements:
- A possibility to inject and execute any code as root in SysCP was fixed.

FreeWRT 1.0.2
FreeWRT is a meta GNU/Linux distribution for embedded systems. more>>
FreeWRT project is a meta GNU/Linux distribution for embedded systems. In this context "meta" means, you can build the complete distribution from source. FreeWRT is meant to be an appliance development kit (ADK) especially designed for embedded system developers and advanced users.
The FreeWRT developer team provides a menu based configuration to choose between embedded boards, root filesystem flavours and hundreds of software packages for your own Linux based appliance. The ADK downloads all software packages via the internet and creates a working toolchain (compiler, assembler, debugger), kernel and base system containing only the minimal set of software and drivers to support all integrated hardware of your embedded system. The default firmware image configures existing non-wireless network interfaces so that you can connect via secure shell client to your embedded system after the installation of the firmware image.
The best way to install FreeWRT on a supported device is to use our ADK. One of our goals is, to provide a host independent ADK, which can be used to create your own appliance on Linux, *BSD, MacOSX and Windows. Check the list of the supported build systems to see how many are supported now.
Alternatively you can create a firmware image with our Web Image Builder. The Web Image Builder does not have so many customization options, but is useful to get a feeling about the possibilities of FreeWRT.
FreeWRT supports following embedded devices. We only have support for Broadcom based devices with Linux 2.4. Some very popular wireless lan routers are based on Broadcom hardware, e.g. Linksys WRT54GL, Asus WL500g premium and Netgear WGT634u.
If you like start with FreeWRT, check at supported Hostsystems if your operating system is a supported buildsystem. Then get the latest stable buildroot from our repository via subversion command line tool:
$ svn co svn://www.freewrt.org/branches/freewrt_1_0
Please never build as root!
You can start the menu based configuration via "make". If the prerequisite checks are successful you will get a menu, where you should at least choose a target system. If you exit the menu, you can start the build process via "make" or in more verbose mode via "make v". The buildprocess will download all needed sources via internet (typically about 200MB) and will build a working toolchain (compiler, assembler, debugger), a kernel and a usable basic root filesystem for your target.
Enhancements:
- A major stability problem with ethernet bridging was fixed.
- Security updates were made for bind9.
- Updates were made for asterisk, tmsnc, nano, rsync, and aiccu.
- New packages include shorewall, djbdns, and daemontools.
- Startup scripts were fixed for openswan and nfs-kernel-server.
