Beyond the Red Line project is a stand-alone total conversion for the award-winning Freespace 2 released by Volition and Interplay for the PC. It is based on the popular new tv-show Battlestar Galactica. No, not the one from the 70s.
Will I need Freespace 2 to play it?
No, Beyond the Red Line is a stand-alone conversion and will not require Freespace 2. All you need for playing will be included in the download.
Is it free?
Absolutely. The game is made by fans for the fans, no profit is being made from any part of the project. Although we could use some pizzas and coke to keep our mortal bodies running.
That about covers it... a BSG total conversion of FS2 that has just released a demo version. it plays really well and looks amazing. a must for any BSG fan.
Enhancements:
- This demo contains spoilers for the second season of BSG, so if you havent seen that season yet you should pass on this game for now.

Call Of Duty 2 Linux Multiplayer Server Code 1.0a

Call Of Duty 2 Linux Multiplayer Server Code 1.0a

Call Of Duty 2 Linux Multiplayer Server Code is a COD2 linux server. more>>
Call Of Duty 2 Linux Multiplayer Server Code is a COD2 linux server.

!! IMPORTANT !!

Call of Duty 2 Linux Server is NOT SUPPORTED by Activision Customer Support. Please do not call with any questions related to this free beta product. There are other channels to aid you listed at the bottom of this document.

Introduction

This document explains how to install the Call of Duty 2 Linux server version 1.0. Installation from scratch and upgrading an existing installation are both covered.

Usage is very similar to Call of Duty and United Offensive... many of the console commands, command lines, and cvars are identical, so if you are comfortable maintaining dedicated servers for those games, you will find this process familiar.

MOD USERS: PLEASE READ...

It is recommended that any user modifications that have been installed to the Call of Duty 2 directory be removed before installing this package. These modifications are not supported by Activision and may not be compatible with some of the new features that are included. When installing or upgrading a server, if problems or unexpected behavior arise, your first step in troubleshooting should be to do a clean install with the original data files.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH "LIBSTDC++.SO.5" ...

(This is a frequent-enough problem to merit discussion in the introduction.)

If you are reading this, its probably because you tried to start your Linux server and saw this message:

./cod2_lnxded: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

COD2 is a C++ program built with gcc 3.3.4, which means it needs a system library specific to gcc 3.3. Older Linux systems wont have this installed, and were starting to see newer Linux distributions that dont have this either, since they are supplying an incompatible gcc 3.4 version. The good news is that you can drop the needed library into your system without breaking anything else.

Here is the library you need, if your Linux distribution doesnt supply it:

http://icculus.org/updates/cod/gcc3-libs.tar.bz2

You want to unpack that somewhere that the dynamic linker will see it (if you are sure it wont overwrite any files, you can even use /lib).

The brave can put it in the same directory as the game and run the server like this:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:. ./cod2_lnxded

Now the server will start.

Upgrading from 1.0 to Linux 1.0a.

Just stop the game server, replace cod2_lnxded on your server with the version included in this package, and restart the game server. 1.0a is just a minor hotfix and requires no other code changes.

As the hotfix is Linux-specific there is no Windows version of 1.0a.

Installation From Scratch

- Get the retail Call of Duty 2 disc(s) (there may be multiple discs depending on what edition of the game you have obtained, or perhaps a single DVD-ROM disc).
- Copy the contents of disc ones "Setup/Data" directory to wherever you want to install the Call of Duty 2 Linux server. There should be a "localization.txt" file in the root of this directory, and a "Main" Subdirectory. Each additional disc should be opened and the contents of each "Data" folder should be copied over to the existing Main folder. When you have copied everything, the final installation size is around 3.5 gigabytes.
- Alternately, you may install on Windows and copy the installed game to your Linux system, but many will opt to skip this step since the data files are uncompressed and easily accessible on the discs. Final installation size is around 3.5 gigabytes.
- Unpack this archive in the root of the newly-copied tree, so "cod2_lnxded" is in the same directory as "localization.txt". Unlike the original Call of Duty, there are not seperate .so files like "game.mp.i386.so", so dont be concerned when you dont see them.
- Now, run the server:
cd /where/i/copied/callofduty2
./cod2_lnxded

- When you see "--- Common Initialization Complete ---", the game server has started, but you need to start a map before the server will accept connections. At this point, type:

map mp_leningrad

("mp_leningrad" being a given maps name).

- Now you should see your server in the in-game browser. You will now want to customize your server, but that is beyond the scope of this document.

The Ark Roleplaying Kernel 0.1.4

The Ark Roleplaying Kernel 0.1.4

The Ark Roleplaying Kernel is a 3D multiplayer roleplaying engine. more>>
The Ark Roleplaying Kernel project is a 3D multiplayer roleplaying engine.

The Ark Roleplaying Kernel is a roleplaying engine that will allow game developers to create a full- featured role playing game, without having to write a single line of C++. All they have to do is to create game data (models, textures, world), and define the behaviour NPCs, in Lua. The engine contains a full outdoor 3D engine, with support for skeletal animation, and triangle- accurate collision detection. It also contains tools to create world and quests, and loaders for the most common low-polygon 3D formats.

After an never-ending war which had begun because of the arrival of the daphyrings (insect-like creatures) which some humans feared, the planet sank bit by bit into a Middle-Age-like ignorance. From the bits of a rich and united nation were born numerous empires ever waging war between themselves. Humans having forgotten all their knowledge use the seldom-found devices of the ancient civilization such as magical artifacts, for they now know only how to forge old-fashioned weapons such as swords, axes, bows...

Fauna and flora themselves have been modified, because of the cataclysms (nuclear incidents) which occurred during the Great War. These accidents have also divided humans into many clans yet having a common religion. It is in this world, named Arkhart, that the game named for the moment ArkhartRPG (ah, such originality!) takes place.

Command Line WRAPper 0.3.0

Command Line WRAPper 0.3.0

Command Line WRAPper is a tool to build and run commands from input lines. more>>
Command Line WRAPper is a tool that provides an easy way to build and run commands from input lines, avoiding the use of shell script. It is similar to xargs.

clwrap can make great things with the locate command, and is low resource intensive. It can also do some not-quite-fun works like multiple configure/make/make install after a fresh system installation. In practice, you have to generate a list of files/directories you want to manage, clwrap takes it in standard input and apply the command you want to apply for each files (lines) in input.

But you can do much more, in fact, its up to you to find how to use it ;).

examples:

- copying several files into one specific directory:

locate myfiles | clwrap -e cp {} mydir/

- renaming several files:

ls -1 ultra*
| clwrap -e "echo -n mv -v {}" -e "echo {} | sed s/ultra/ /"
| clwrap -e {}

- running a specific line in the shell history:

history | grep "482" | head -n 1 | sed s/ *[0-9]* *// | clwrap -v -e {}

- try all tv norms and frequency tables possible combinations with scantv:

cat norm
| clwrap -e "cat freq | clwrap -e echo scantv -n {} -f {}"
| clwrap -e {} > file 2>&1

- reformat source code, after a backup of course:

ls -1 | clwrap -e "cp {} {}.orig && flip -u {} && cat {}
| sed s/^[ t]*$//;/^$/d
| indent -kr -bad -bap -bbb -sob -i8 -l100 {} -o {}.tmp
&& mv {} tmp && mv {}.tmp {}"

Snoopy vs. the Red Baron 1.0

Snoopy vs. the Red Baron 1.0

Snoopy vs. the Red Baron is an open-source one/two player combat game, available for Mac OS X, Linux, BeOS, QNX and Windows.
The original Snoopy was a tiny game for the Apple Macintosh, with black and white graphics, but already almost all the levels of the new Snoopy/SDL were implemented.
Snoopy could be played by two opponents, sharing a single screen and keyboard, and although it had poor graphics and tough controls, we very much liked to play it.
While we learned programming, we constantly sought for simple, yet interesting projects. If you have ever tried to learn a new language or API, you will have recognized that the simplest way in mastering the stuff is simply reprogramming an existing application, without losing much thought on design and originality.
So my friend reprogrammed Snoopy, in Object Pascal, using SAT, the Sprite Animation Toolkit, on his Classic II. That version of Snoopy features a fully functional AI, network play, but only the first level ( weapons drop).
While he was at it, he also implemented a "missing feature", the bombs, for which there where graphics and sounds in the game, but which could not be thrown.
When I discovered SDL, I recognized that it would be ideal for the job. Running on Windows, Linux, MacOS, BeOS and many other platforms, it is my new toolkit of choice for multimedia programming. It took us several weeks to port Snoopy (besides going to school, but now the work is almost done, with only the finishing touches to be made.
I can only encourage everyone to try SDL; it is really easy and portable (if worked right).

Beyond Linux From Scratch 6.2.0

Beyond Linux From Scratch 6.2.0

Beyond Linux From Scratch or BLFS in short, is a project that continues where the LFS book finishes. more>>
Beyond Linux From Scratch or BLFS in short, is a project that continues where the LFS book finishes. It assists users in developing their systems according to their needs by providing a broad range of instructions for installing and configuring various packages on top of a base LFS system.
Why would I want a BLFS system?
If you are wondering why you would want a BLFS system or dont know what LFS is then you dont want to be here just yet - you should head over to the LFS Project Homepage where all will be explained.
What can I do with my BLFS system?
Nearly anything! An LFS system is primed to become a system that fits whatever need you have. BLFS is the book that takes you down your own custom path. You could build an office workstation, a multimedia desktop, a router, a server, or all of the above! And the best part is you only install what you need.
Enhancements:
- Version 6.2.0 of BLFS has been released. Version 6.2.0 is the complement to the LFS 6.2 book. More time has elapsed between the release of the previous version (6.1) and this one than in any other release cycle. Much of this is due to the fact that LFS 6.2 took much longer to be released than was originally anticipated. Many new packages have been introduced in the 6.2.0 version, as well as many updates, refinements and additions to the existing packages.

Red Hat Linux is probably the best-known Linux distribution. Red Hat Linux is well-supported by commercial software, and tends to be easy to install and have good hardware support out of the box.

Compaq has taken over the maintenance for Red Hat for their Alpha processor - theres a link to their Alpha Red Hat page below.

Red Hat 9 is the last version of Red Hat Linux per se, and Red Hat will stop supporting it soon. Instead they offer a commercial Linux distribution, "Red Hat Enterprise Edition", and a free distribution, "The Fedora Project".
