mrtg-ping-probe 2.2.0
mrtg-ping-probe project monitors round trip time and packet loss to another host. more>>
mrtg-ping-probe project monitors round trip time and packet loss to another host. Still on my TODO list: add own min/max/avg rtt calculation, add perl ping module, add rping and rsh support...
mrtg-ping-probe is a ping probe for MRTG 2.x. It is used to monitor the round trip time and packet loss to networked devices. MRTG uses its output to generate graphs visualizing minimum and maximum round trip times or packet loss.
mrtg-ping-probe depends on the following software being installed on your system: perl (at least version 5.6.1), mrtg (I use version 2.8.8, though any mrtg 2.x version should work), and a ping program that displays a summary of the round trip times upon termination or timeout.
mrtg-ping-probe runs on AIX, BSD/OS 2.1, FreeBSD/2.2.x, IRIX/6.2, Linux, Mac OS X (Darwin 5.4), NetBSD, OpenBSD, OS/2, OSF1 V3.2, Solaris 1.1.2 (SunOS 4.1.4), Solaris 2.5.1 (SunOS 5.5.1), Solaris 7 (SunOS 5.7), Solaris 8 (SunOS 5.8), Solaris 9 (SunOS 5.9), HP-UX 9, Windows 98, and Windows 2000 (english, french, portugesee, and spanish locales).
If you install the Windows ping program that comes with Windows 98, Windows 2000, or WinSock 2.x, mrtg-ping-probe will also run on Windows 95 and Windows 4.0.
Support for additional systems is usually easy to add, as described in the file INSTALL.
Act responsible: do not use mrtg-ping-probe to ping devices without the owners permission. Just imagine 10,000 people would decide to ping your hosts ... mrtg-ping-probe is meant to be used within your network to get round trip time performance figures for your network.
Usage: mrtg-ping-probe [-hsvV] [-d deadtime] [-k count] [-l length] [-o ping_options] [-p [factor*]{min|max|avg|loss|integer}/[factor*]{min|max|avg|loss|integer}] [-r [rsh:][user@]host[:osname]] [-t timeout] host
Enhancements:
- new platforms supported: italian Windows 2000 locale.
- bugfixes: on Windows actually return deadtime when we lost all packets, not 0. the ping child process should actually be killed now on Unix platforms.
- changes: ***** Possible Incompatability ***** raised minimum required perl version to 5.6.1. lots of typos fixed.

Ident2 1.07
Ident2 is an alternative approach to auth/ident services. more>>
Ident2 is an alternative approach to auth/ident services. The project was written from the ground up and can run either as a child handler of inetd or as a standalone daemon with no user intervention.
Users can set their own replies or toggle random replies, all at the system administrators preference, of course. Full compliance with RFC1413 is attempted.
Enhancements:
- This release adds support for SunOS, NetBSD, OpenBSD, OSF/1, and HP-UX.
- It fixes a buffer overflow in the getline function.
- A buffer overflow on FreeBSD has been fixed.
- Neither of these have known exploits or are known to be exploitable.
- Ident2 servers do not announce their version information to the Internet.
- All users are encouraged to upgrade.

SCCS 1.0
SCCS is an implementation of the POSIX standard Source Code Control System. more>>
SCCS project is an implementation of the POSIX standard Source Code Control System.
Calling configure manually is outdated because this is a task of the makefile system.
There is no configure, simply call make on the top level directory.
***** If this does not work for you, read the rest if this file *****
***** If you have any problem, also first read the topic specific *****
***** README.* files (e.g. README.linux for Linux problems). *****
All results in general will be placed into a directory named OBJ/< arch-name >/ in the current projects leaf directory.
You **need** either my "smake" program, the SunPRO make from /usr/bin/make (SunOS 4.x) or /usr/ccs/bin/make (SunOS 5.x) or GNU make to compile this program. Read README.gmake for more information on gmake and a list of the most annoying bugs in gmake.
All other make programs are either not smart enough or have bugs.
Enhancements:
- The new program, "sccslog", creates a Changelog file from SCCS history files.
- The program was ported to HP-UX. (Since HP-UX has no seteuid(), setresuid() is used instead).
- Several bugs in the man pages have been fixed.

freq 1.1.0
freq is a Perl script used to analyze the last log. more>>
freq is a Perl script used to analyze the last log. It works on Linux systems, but may also work on other UNIX-based systems that have the same format for their lastlog.
I have added some preliminary support for SunOS and IRIX, though this has not been tested to the point where I would know if it is completely working or not.
It can spit out information regarding how many times a user has logged in as well as what days, terminals, hours, and months are most popular for logins. In addition, it can sort this information alphabetically or ascending or descending by number of logins.
It can even generate simple graphs.
Enhancements:
- Removed the install.pl program, which was always pretty crummy.
- Added support for the lastlog format that is at least in use in glibc-2.3, and possibly earlier.

Prima 1.22
Prima is a Perl GUI toolkit. more>>
Prima is an extensible Perl toolkit for multi-platform GUI development. Platforms supported include Linux, Windows NT/9x/2K, OS/2 and UNIX/X11 workstations (FreeBSD, IRIX, SunOS, Solaris and others).
The toolkit contains a rich set of standard widgets and has emphasis on 2D image processing tasks. A Perl program using PRIMA looks and behaves identically on X, Win32 and OS/2 PM.
Prima project includes a visual builder and a graphic POD viewer.
Building:
A Unpack it somewhere. Use
$ tar xzf Prima.tar.gz
on systems with GNU tar, and
$ gzip -cd Prima.tar.gz | tar xf -
on other systems.
cd to Prima directory.
Type perl Makefile.PL
If everything goes well, type make
If everything goes well (previous step is likely to take several minutes), you can, if you wish, type make test and make install. You can also try PRIMA without making install; in this case it is required to set your PERL5LIB environment variable to point to Prima directory.
Try to run samples provided with the package. They are located in the examples subdirectory. Run them as perl examples/filename.pl.
Explore, enjoy and share!

Linux Security Auditing Tool (LSAT) is a post install security auditing tool. more>>
The Linux Security Auditing Tool (LSAT) is a post install security auditor for Linux/Unix.
Linux Security Auditing Tool checks many system configurations and local network settings on the system for common security/config errors and for packages that are not needed.
It (for now) works under Linux (x86: Gentoo, RedHat, Debian, Mandrake; Sparc: SunOS (2.x), Redhat sparc, Mandrake Sparc; Apple OS X).
Enhancements:
- The dependency on the popt library has been removed.
- This release adds extra passwd and group checks under Linux, a check for failed logins under Linux/Solaris, a check for kernel modules under Solaris, network interface stats, and routing checks. It fixes a problem in checknetforward giving false positives, and an issue where verbose output was not very consistent.
- The kernel module check under Linux has been modified.

Bogofilter 1.1.5
Bogofilter is a mail filter that classifies mail as spam or ham. more>>
Bogofilter is a Bayesian spam filter. In its normal mode of operation, it takes an email message or other text on standard input, does a statistical check against lists of `good` and `bad` words, and returns a status code indicating whether or not the message is spam.
Bogofilter is designed with fast algorithms, uses the Berkeley DB for fast startup and lookups, coded directly in C, and tuned for speed, so it can be used for production by sites that process a lot of mail.
Bogofilter is run by an MDA script to classify an incoming message as spam or ham (using wordlists stored by BerkeleyDB). Bogofilter provides processing for plain text and html.
Bogofilter supports multi-part mime message with decoding of base64, quoted-printable, and uuencoded text and ignores attachments, such as images.
Bogofilter is written in C. Supported platforms: Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, OS X, HP-UX, AIX, RISC OS, SunOS, OS/2 …
