OpenOffice.org is the open source project through which Sun Microsystems is releasing the technology for the popular StarOffice productivity suite.

It is an international office suite that will run on all major platforms and provide access to all functionality and data through open-component based APIs and an XML- based file format.

OpenOffice.org suite establishes the necessary facilities to make this open source technology available to the developer community.

GNOME Office is the premier suite of office productivity applications designed for the GNOME desktop environment.
Some of the applications also can run on Windows or Mac OS X. They provide powerful, efficient office productivity capabilities as free (GPL) software.

Ankur is working toward supporting Bangla(Bengali) language on GNU/Linux operating system. However, most of our projects are focused on XFree86.orgs XServer. Some of our projects are in fact platform independent and adds supports of other operating systems.

We are working on providing Bangla support for some major XServer applications such as office suites, database, development tools and desktop environments like GNOME, KDE.

Our intention is to help develop and maintain open source/free software targeted towards the Bangla speaking users.

SOT, formerly named "Best Linux", is a Finnish distribution geared toward the desktop user, both home and office. SOT includes an office suite, multimedia applications, games, and more.

SOT Office, also linked to below, is a free office software suite based on OpenOffice for both Linux and Windows (not a standalone distribution).

RKWard is meant to become an easy to use, transparent frontend to the R-language, a very powerful, yet hard-to-get-into scripting-language with a strong focus on statistic functions. RKward will not only provide a convenient user-interface, however, but also take care of seamless integration with an office-suite. Practical statistics is not just about calculating, after all, but also about documenting and ultimately publishing the results.
RKWard then is (will be) something like a free replacement for commercial statistical packages. In addition to ease of use, three aspects are particularily important:
1: It will be a transparent interface to the underlying R-language. That is, it will not hide the powerful syntax, but merely provide a convenient way, in which both newbies and R-experts can accomplish most of their tasks. A GUI can never provide an interface to the whole power of a language like R. In some cases users will want to tweak some functions to their particular needs and esp. to automate some tasks. By making the "inner workings" visible to the user, RKWard will make it easy for the user to see where and how to use R-syntax to accomplish their goals.
2: For the output, RKWard strives to separate content and design to a high degree. It will not try to design its own tables/graphs, etc, which have to be converted to the style used in the rest of a publication by hand. Currently RKWard uses HTML for its output. Using appropriate style definitions reformatting this output to match the rest of the publication will be easily doable. In future releases RKWard will even seek stronger integration with existing office suites.
3: It relies on a language, that is not only very powerful, but also extensible, and for which dozens of extensions already exist.
Enhancements:

- fixed: starting the scatterplot plugin in wizard mode would crash rkward
- tab-completion in the console will do partial completion, if all potential completions have a common start
- fixed: file-name completion would always assume the home directory as the current directory

LibMSWrite is a free, platform-independent C++ filter library that can read and write the Microsoft Write 3.0/3.1 document format. LibMSWrite library supports what is believed to be the complete featureset of the Write file format.

It is fully portable across 32-bit and 64-bit architectures and has no dependencies other than C++. Both Linux, Windows and any other system that supports C++ is supported (STL is not required).

It employs XML-based code generation techniques to simplify the process of manipulating binary Write data structures, in a portable manner.

What can LibMSWrite do for me?

LibMSWrite provides a comprehensive API that serves as a significant abstraction layer for the Microsoft Write file format. Its primary use is in the "backend" of Write Import and Export filters for office suites. LibMSWrite simplifies the creation of such filters because developers no longer need to know the innards of the Write file format.

LibMSWrite forms the basis of the Write filters for KWord >= 1. (http://www.koffice.org), the word processor that complements the K Desktop Environment (http://www.kde.org), which is the most popular free GUI for Unix-based systems (e.g. Linux, FreeBSD).

The LibMSWrite Project does not just provide a library. It also includes:

- mswrite2html: program which converts Write files to XHTML
- list.h: alternative linked list implementation to STL
- xmlparser.cpp: quick & dirty XML parser
- wmf.cpp: WMF parser and BMP-to-WMF converter

Microsoft Write ?

Microsoft Write was the word processor included in Microsoft Windows 3.x (now more than a decade old). With the notable exception of tables, it supported all of the features needed for writing simple documents (essays, book reviews, reports etc.). The Microsoft Write format is almost completely unrelated to the, now (2003) de-facto, Microsoft Word format.

Microsoft Write files usually have the extension .WRI. Although, there are some .WRI files that are actually RTFs.

LibMSWrite was written because there was a need to guarantee that Write documents could continue to be read in the face of diminishing compatibility for old, binary document file formats. For instance, this is important if you have 7 years worth of work in the format...

The LibMSWrite project is not endorsed by Microsoft.

Office Tournament project is a tool for keeping track of office tournaments, such as foosball.

You may enter data from the command line or from the CGI Web interface. It outputs all kinds of stats and even a nice chart if you use the Imager::Graph::Pie Perl library available from CPAN.

It currently requires no database to run, but there are plans to migrate the text (flat file db) to MySQL.

dropline GNOME project is a version of the GNOME Desktop that has been tweaked for Slackware Linux systems.
It is available in Slackwares standard .tgz package format and requires Slackware 10.1 or higher.
