Free knoppix software for linux

The AFU Knoppix CD contains software for the operating modes of PSK31, RTTY, SSTV, FAX, APRS and packet radio. Additional applications for Sat tracking, logging, locator referencing and antenna computation are also included.

The idea for this CD came in April 2003 after a lecture by Klaus Knopper during the Ulmer Linux Expo.

The CD is targeted for radio enthusiasts, the Linux operating system and the applications on this CD are structured so that they can run from the CD without effecting the installed existing system software. *

Surely Linux for most radio amateurs may be an unfamiliar operating system. Most computer users however have no problems with the use of the programs or the KDE Desktops as it configures easy via the KDE menu - > KNOPPIX.

SFS-KNOPPIX is a kind of KNOPPIX which boots form Internet with a cloop on SFS (Self-certifying File System). SFS-KNOPPIX requires small boot loader (20MB image) and offers full KNOPPIX functions, Autoconfig, etc.
SFS-KNOPPIX makes possible to change a cloop file (root file system of KNOPPIX) at boot time. It means we dont need to burn extra CD for many KNOPPIX offshoots.
SFS-KNOPPIX uses the same cloop file of KNOPPIX. The difference is the location of cloop file and boot method. SFS-KNOPPIX can work as normal KNOPPIX. It works Autoconfig and Hard Disk installer.
SFS-KNOPPIX has three boot variations; CD-boot, USB-boot and coLinux.

- The Download image of SFS-KNOPPIX is only 20MB, although normal KNOPPIX is 700MB.
- After boot, only necessary cloop blocks are downloaded. The blocks are compressed.
- It requires 50MB download to boot KDE window manager.
- SFS-KNOPPIX is compatible for normal KNOPPIX. (CD and USB boot version only)
- It uses same kernel version and cloop file. AutoConfig loads same device drivers.
- Hard Disk installer works in the same manner.
- On USB version. It does not required to burn a CD-ROM.
- The bootability is depend on BIOS on each PC.
- On coLinux version. It can boot with any cloop file, because coLinux is independent form device drivers."

You can boot you sensors from the live CD, store all data to a local HD partion and have them logging back to a central server.

With KNOPPIX-NSM you can deploy a complete NSM network to monitor your existing network infrastructure. KNOPPIX-NSM comes pre-configured for deployment of multiple sensors and databases, all you need to do is create the sensor accounts in the database and change some passwords.

All remote communications are over ssl tunnels so that you do not have to be concerned about eaves droppers if you decide to run KNOPPIX-NSM in your main network channels. Another feature is the use of iptables to ensure that only allowed hosts can connect and only necessary services are visible to the network.

Need another console, just boot from the cd (setting the host and ip at boot time) and you are up and running straight away.

Accelerated KNOPPIX is a fast-booting variant of the popular KNOPPIX live CD.

The mechanism of acceleration in the live CD

A cloop profiler is developed in order to grasp the access situation of CD.

Although various files are referred to in Live CD in the case of a system startup, since each position of media is dotted with the file, a lot of seeking will generate it at the time of reading. If the seek time of this CD is lost, it will be said that data can be transmitted at a stretch from CD.
