DVD-Baker 0.7.43

DVD-Baker is a small suite of programmes designed to turn your image collection into a DVD. more>>
DVD-Baker project is a small suite of programmes designed that can turn your image collection into a DVD.
Your image collection can be stored in a web gallery such as Menalto Gallery G2.
Formerly known as gallery2-to-dvd, DVD-Baker has evolved from a brute-force (hack) bash script to a php/bash combination that allows you to bake your DVD on a computer other than your webserver.
Main features:
- Menu system based on the root and branch albums/folders
- Slideshows made from the images in each leaf album using dvd-slideshow
- An albums highlight is embedded in its corresponding menu
- Subtitles for each image (switchable)
- Customisable image durations and transition effects
- Autoplay after menu timeout plays each slideshow sequentially
- Random autoplay (optional) if using dvdauthor 0.6.12
- Options menu (optional) for toggling subtitles, autoplay and repeat modes
- Either NTSC or PAL video formats
- DVD-compliant MPEG movies can be included
- High or low quality modes
How DVD-Baker works
Its as simple as RECIPE => BAKE => BURN !!!
1. Prepare the recipe:
For Menalto Gallery G2:
g2-dvd-recipe.php needs to be placed in the base directory of your G2 site.
2. Baking the ingredients:
Running dvd-baker will produce all the slideshows and menus as specified by the recipe.
A file called dvdauthor.xml will be produced describing all those menus and slideshows, and how they work together.
3. Burning the DVD:
If you didnt specify the -d option for dvd-baker, then:
$ dvdauthor -x dvdauthor.xml
To burn the dvd, use your preferred burning application to create a DVD-Video from the resultant ./DVD directory.
Enhancements:
- A few important features have been added.
- The most requested may be the ability to specify the gallery album to bake (rather than the users root album), and the ability to specify an album to use to create a DVD leader (a title played before the root menu is shown).
- Also included is an optional Options Menu System, which can be accessed by pressing the SUBTITLE button (or F3 in gxine) to toggle options such as SUBTITLES, AUTOPLAY, and REPEAT during playback.
- Minor cleanups and bugfixes are included.

Avifile 0.7.43

Avifile 0.7.43

Avifile is a compressed AVI file support library for x86 Linux. more>>
This project attempts to provide a working implementation of a few multimedia-related utilities for x86 Linux. At the time of its creation in May 2000 its primary goal was creation of video capture and recompression applications that would work with most popular AVI file format and newest data compression methods ( Indeo Video and variations of MPEG-4 for image compression and MPEG Layer-3/Windows Media Audio for sound ).

The core idea of the project was in using Win32 dynamic-link libraries in Linux environment. However, it has become most popular because of its side product - an AVI movie player that could play DivX ;-) movies in Linux with reasonable performance and stability. Since then most of work was done in this direction.

Now it supports a wide range of codecs ( compressors/decompressors ) such as DivX ;-), Indeo Video, I263, and others, able to show subtitles and perform video output using YUV overlays when necessary support from hardware and operating system is available.

It is also able to play most files in ASF format, and current development CVS code is capable of streaming ASF media over HTTP. The project is not intended to provide universal media framework for Linux, nor to do much more than what it currently does. Moreover, its mostly a proof-of-concept work. It was the first project that introduced the idea of using Windows DLLs and very limited ( ~50 Kbytes of code ) subset of Win32 API for audio/video (de)compression in *nix environments, the idea which is already reused in several other - more general - software projects.

It is the first project that extends that idea to the usage of DirectShow audio/video decoders for the same purpose ( by emulating DirectShow/DCOM environment from decoder point of view ). It is the only project that includes a player for files in Advanced Streaming Format. All these features are essential for the complete modern multimedia environment, and hopefully will become available in near future in such perspective architectures as Arts ( KDE ) or GStreamer ( Gnome ).

Aside from reusing the ideas, the project is used as is in a few media players for Linux, such as XMMS, XTheater or LAMP. The code of this project is distributed under General Public License version 2. Basically it means that you may do anything you want with this code, but if you want to redistribute it or any its derivatives, you have to do it under GPL and you have to make the source code available. For more details visit the site of Free Software Foundation.

Legal issues covering Win32 DLLs which accompany source code are a bit more complicated. These DLLs are freely available in the Internet ( exact URLs to most of them are available on this site ). For those DLLs which come with the license, their copyright owners allow using them at no cost if you do not disassemble, reverse-engineer them, etc. In some cases ( Indeo Video ) they explicitly allow to include these files into other projects under mentioned restrictions. Many DLLs are available without having to accept any license agreement at all ( DivX ;-), all DirectShow codecs ), what obviously means that any kind of activity with them is acceptable.

There is no warranty about the quality of this project. It is written mostly by one former university student with background in the area of Applied Physics in his spare time. I cannot even guarantee that it compiles properly on your system, because I dont have resources to test it on all existing distributions of Linux and flavors of Unix. I try to resolve the issues that Im informed about.

Warsync 0.9.8

Warsync 0.9.8

Warsync is a server replication program based on rsync. more>>
Warsync is the program that initiates replication between the Warsync server and its clients. Warsync is designed to be called from the command line of the Warsync server to initiate replication on demand. It can also be called from cron on the server to automate replication.
Warsync not only replicates files from the server to the client, but can also synchronize what software packages are installed on a Debian GNU/Linux system.
Warsync determines what files to replicate by processing the /etc/warsync/filepacks.d directory on the sever. This directory contains filepacks which are simple text files that contain lists of the files and directories that should be replicated.
Installation
On a Debian GNU/Linux system, the best way to install Warsync is to download the Debian package. Once downloaded it can be installed easily with dpkg.
dpkg -i warsync_0.9.8_all.deb
If you receive an error about missing dependencies, a quick call to apt-get will fix that up.
apt-get -f install
Warsync can also be installed manual from the source tarball, although this method has not been tested. A from source installation would go something like this:
tar zxvf warsync_0.9.8.tar.gz
cd warsync-0.9.8
perl Makefile.PL
make
make install
Enhancements:
- Filepack replication introduced.
- Debian package snapshot improvements.
- Output improvments. -q and -v actually mean something along with special handling when run from non-tty (such as cron).
- Real documentation! See warsync-howto manpage.

TkVNC 0.9.1

TkVNC 0.9.1

TkVNC is a VNC viewer written in pure Tcl/Tk. more>>
TkVNC is a VNC viewer written in pure Tcl/Tk. It does not yet support authentication, so it can only connect to an unsecured VNC server. All the original "classic" encodings are supported. It was written to be embedded inside another application, however the version here is a standalone program.

Current status (9 Jan 2003).
DES encryption (i.e. authentication) is not implemented. Therefore, you cant connect to something that was started with Unix vncserver, only Unix Xvnc -rfbport ... directly would work
Tested against TightVNCs Xvnc and OSXVncs OSXvnc-server
raw encoding works
I havent seen a server using copyrect, so I dont know if that works
hextile is still a little confused and very slow (often kills Xvnc?) There seems to be a CPU leak in the Tk image command.
RRE is implemented, but I think Xvnc doesnt give sensible results
CoRRE is implemented, also gets strange results from tightvncs server
tight and zlib encodings are not implemented
no support for SetColourMapEntries
no support for ClientCutText (but ServerCutText is OK)
Big-endian-ness is hard coded. This is obviously a bit of a problem on x86 platforms!

To test it just do the following:
Xvnc :1 -geometry 800x600 -depth 8 &
twm -display :1 &
xterm -display :1 &
And on the client (which is any platform with Tk):
wish tkvnc.tcl ?server:1?

List::Compare 0.33

List::Compare 0.33

List::Compare is a Perl module to compare elements of two or more lists. more>>
List::Compare is a Perl module to compare elements of two or more lists.

SYNOPSIS

The bare essentials:

@Llist = qw(abel abel baker camera delta edward fargo golfer);
@Rlist = qw(baker camera delta delta edward fargo golfer hilton);

$lc = List::Compare->new(@Llist, @Rlist);

@intersection = $lc->get_intersection;
@union = $lc->get_union;

General Comments

List::Compare is an object-oriented implementation of very common Perl code (see "History, References and Development" below) used to determine interesting relationships between two or more lists at a time. A List::Compare object is created and automatically computes the values needed to supply List::Compare methods with appropriate results. In the current implementation List::Compare methods will return new lists containing the items found in any designated list alone (unique), any list other than a designated list (complement), the intersection and union of all lists and so forth. List::Compare also has (a) methods to return Boolean values indicating whether one list is a subset of another and whether any two lists are equivalent to each other (b) methods to pretty-print very simple charts displaying the subset and equivalence relationships among lists.

Except for List::Compares get_bag() method, multiple instances of an element in a given list count only once with respect to computing the intersection, union, etc. of the two lists. In particular, List::Compare considers two lists as equivalent if each element of the first list can be found in the second list and vice versa. Equivalence in this usage takes no note of the frequency with which elements occur in either list or their order within the lists. List::Compare asks the question: Did I see this item in this list at all? Only when you use List::Compare::get_bag() to compute a bag holding the two lists do you ask the question: How many times did this item occur in this list?

HashColouredTabs+ 0.4.13

HashColouredTabs+ 0.4.13

HashColouredTabs+ is an extension which improves tab identification by providing a small coloured icon. more>>
HashColouredTabs+ is an extension which improves tab identification by providing a small coloured icon.

Improves tab identification by providing a small coloured icon for any site which doesnt have its own site icon.

This is a re-engineered version of HashColouredTabs by Terry Yuen; In Firefox 2 it will now also show the icon in the location bar and in the List all tabs dropdown.

[When your tab bar becomes full of tabs, you often have to rely on seeing the website icons to tell which website is loaded inside which tab. But not all websites have predefined icons. This extension will give each tab an icon that is coloured depending on the web address (web domain) from whence it is loaded. (HashColouredTabs description)]

BRL-CAD 7.10.0

BRL-CAD 7.10.0

BRL-CAD is a powerful constructive solid geometry solid modeling system that includes an interactive geometry editor. more>>
BRL-CAD project is a powerful Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) solid modeling system. BRL-CAD includes an interactive geometry editor, ray tracing support for rendering and geometric analysis, network distributed framebuffer support, image-processing and signal-processing tools. The entire package is distributed in source code form.
Since the late 1950s, computers have been used to assist with the design and study of combat vehicle systems. The result has been a reduction in the amount of time and money required to take a system from the drawing board to full-scale production as well as increased efficiency in testing and evaluation.
In 1979, the U.S. Army Ballistic Research Laboratory (BRL) (now the U.S. Army Research Laboratory [ARL]) expressed a need for tools that could assist with the computer simulation and engineering analysis of combat vehicle systems and environments. When no existing computer-aided design (CAD) package was found to be adequate for this purpose, BRL software developers began assembling a suite of utilities capable of interactively displaying, editing, and interrogating geometric models. This suite became known as BRL-CAD.
Now comprising over one-half million lines of C code, BRL-CAD has become a powerful constructive solid geometry (CSG) modeling package that has been licensed at over 2,000 sites throughout the world. It contains a large collection of tools, utilities, and libraries including an interactive geometry editor, raytracing and generic framebuffer libraries, a network-distributed image-processing and signal-processing capability, and a customizable embedded scripting language. In addition, BRL-CAD simultaneously supports dual interaction methods, one using a command line and one using a graphical user interface (GUI).
A particular strength of the package lies in its ability to build and analyze realistic models of complex objects using a relatively small set of "primitive shapes." To do this, the shapes are manipulated by employing the basic Boolean operations of union, subtraction, and intersection. Another strength of the package is the speed of its raytracer, which is one of the fastest in existence. Finally, BRL-CAD users can accurately model objects on scales ranging from the subatomic through the galactic and get "all the details, all the time."
The application side of BRL-CAD also offers a number of tools and utilities. They primarily concern (1) geometric conversion, (2) geometric interrogation, (3) image format conversion, and (4) command-line-oriented image manipulation. The following is a list of the major BRL-CAD tools and utilities.
- MGED (Multiple-Device Geometry Editor) ? BRL-CADs graphics editor. (For detailed guidance on the use of MGED as well as a list of all the MGED commands currently available, see Butler et al. [2001].)
- Tools for raytracing and interrogating raytraced geometric objects.
- rt ? the main raytracer for rendering images in BRL-CAD.
- nirt ? a package for firing rays interactively and getting information about what the rays run into.
- remrt ? a network-distributed raytracing package.
- An assortment of geometric converters to convert to and/or from other geometry formats, including Euclid, ACAD, AutoCAD DXF, TANKILL, Wavefront OBJ, Pro/ENGINEER, JACK (the human factors model for doing workload/usability studies), Viewpoint Data Lab, NASTRAN, Digital Equipments Object File Format (OFF), Virtual Reality Mark-up Language (VRML), Stereo Lithography (STL), Cyberware Digitizer data, and FASTGEN4.
- bwish ? a Tcl/Tk interpreter in a windowing shell with enhancements compiled into it for accessing BRL-CAD libraries. It also includes various other extensions to the Tcl language.
- irprep ? produces input to the PRISM (Physically Realistic Infrared Simulation Model) code.
- JOVE (Jonathans Own Version of Emacs) ? a fast, light implementation of Emacs.
- Applications for displaying images of various types on the framebuffer application and retrieving data from that framebuffer into images of various types.
- Tools for generating geometry for common objects such as fences, walls, and geometric mathematical oddities (e.g., the sphereflake shown in Figure 2 in Section 4).
- Data manipulation programs to (1) convert integers to floats, floats to doubles, etc. (e.g., cv); (2) perform mathematical operations on file elements (e.g., imod, umod, and dmod); (3) compute statistics of file elements (e.g., istat, ustat, and dstat); etc.
- Utilities for building animation scripts ? keeping track of columnar data and interpolating it to allow one to produce input to the rt program to render multiple items for animation.
- Utah Raster Tool Kit ? image manipulation of all RLE-based images.
- Programs for manipulating images and converting between different image file types. The two primary BRL-CAD types are pix (24-bit red, green, and blue [RGB] color images) and bw (8-bit greyscale images). Converters exist for various image formats including alias, png, ppm, etc.
- Programs for filtering images, doing histograms on the image data, and extracting rectangles from the images.
- Tools for combining two images and blending them together. (These tools were created before good image editing tools for video production were available; today users would typically load the images directly into a video editing package.)
