Free background wallpaper software for linux

background-cover is an Amarok script that displays the album cover, track information.

Optionally the embedded track image on the kde desktop background, and changes the background at each track change.

ChangeWallpaper application has two scripts for change your background in Gnome, from a Folder with several images or from art.gnome.org

This application is two scripts. One of them changes the wallpaper of your Gnome desktop from a Folder of your election. This script hence the necessary of wallpapers on that folder.

The second one, and for me the best, change your background with a random one selected from art.gnome.org.

For both of them you must select the softlink that its generated the first time you run it, and the add the script to you session manager, with this every time you boot your PC and log into your account you will see a new background.

Nautilus Setup Background is a nautilus plugin to setup an image file as wallpaper when browse.

GNOME floating background project subtly changes the color of the GNOME desktop over time -- so slowly that it wont be noticed. This is a good alternative to placing a wallpaper.

The program does have a minimal processor time consumption, as it
sleeps most of the time and its computations are not complicated. In
fact, GFloatbg doesnt change the color directly. It relies on
Nautilus (or an equivalent application) to paint the background using
the color set in the gconf key
/desktop/gnome/background/primary_color, which this program updates
periodically.

GFloatbg doesnt use any window, button or menu, and it can only be
stopped by killing it. This is a feature I dont like too much, but
making a realy nice user interface is just too much for such a little
joke...

GFloatbg starts with a random color and changes it deterministicly by
moving through a HSV-model of colors.

In the HSV-model, colors are described by three parameters:

h = hue stands for the tint of a color
(0 degrees is red, 60 = yellow, 120 = green, 180 = aquamarine, etc)
s = saturations stands for the brightness of the color
(0 = white, 1 = bright)
v = value stands for the intensity of the color
(0 = black, 1 = normal)

Every 10 seconds the hue is increased by 1 degree and the saturation
is changed by a sinus over the hue. The value remains fixed. The
default values are chosen such that all pastel tints are visited, but
these can of course be customized:

WallpaperZapper is a random wallpaper selector for GNOME. It allows you to change periodically your background, randomly picking the new one from GNOME backgrounds lists.
Main features:
- changes desktop background periodically
- time between two changes is fully configurable
- popup menu provides available wallpapers list. Choosing an item in the menu changes the current wallpaper
- wallpaper list is taken from Gnome backgrounds list. Any change made to this list is detected and WZ adapts itself accordingly
- already available in French and English
- easy to translate using traditional tools like gettext and po files
- written in python
- uses gtk/gnome throught pygtk
- preferences saved and wallpapers configured using gconf
- backgrounds file monitored using gamin (could change to gnomevfs shortly)
- i18n with gettext
- autotools were used to bring it altogether.
Enhancements:
- gamin is no longer used to monitor background files.
- GNOMEvfs is used instead.
- The wallpaper popup menu has been modified so it now presents a background together with a thumbnail.
- The wallpaper list is now sorted on wallpaper name.
- The about dialog now inherits from gtk.AboutDialog, so it should be more like GTK.
- An adapter between Wallpapers and GConf was added.
- Usual code cleanups were done, including fixes for typos, removal of comments, and modification of configuration parameters.

Wallpaper Slideshow is a software to make a slideshow in your wallpaper with images in your directory.

This application monitories a directory and put an image in wallpaper before X seconds.

You need mono and if you have ubuntu 6.10, only need to do: sudo aptitude install -y libmono2.0-cil libgconf2.0-cil gtk-sharp2.
