labrea 2.5

labrea 2.5

labrea is a intrusion detection / sticky honey pot technology using virtual servers to detect malware. more>>
LaBrea is a intrusion detection / "sticky" honey pot technology using virtual servers to detect malware. LaBrea takes over unused IP addresses, and creates virtual servers that are attractive to worms, hackers, and other denizens of the Internet. The program answers to connection attempts in a way that the machine at the other end gets "stuck", sometimes for a very long time.
LaBrea works by watching ARP requests and replies. When the pgm sees consecutive ARP requests spaced several seconds apart, without any intervening ARP reply, it assumes that the IP in question is unoccupied. It then "creates" an ARP reply with a bogus MAC address, and fires it back to the requester.
An example (from a tcpdump of LaBrea running on my network):
14:18:28.832187 ARP who-has xx.xx.xx.13 tell xx.xx.xx.1
14:18:29.646402 ARP who-has xx.xx.xx.13 tell xx.xx.xx.1
14:18:31.707295 ARP who-has xx.xx.xx.13 tell xx.xx.xx.1
14:18:31.707574 ARP reply xx.xx.xx.13 is-at 0:0:f:ff:ff:ff
There is no xx.xx.xx.13 machine on my network. In this case, the timeout was set to 3 seconds (its a command line parameter), and when that final "who-has" came in, the "is-at" reply that you see was generated by LaBrea.
There isnt a MAC address of 0:0:f:ff:ff:ff either. It doesnt exist.
But now, the router (xx.xx.xx.1) believes that there some machine at xx.xx.xx.13, and that it resides on the MAC address 0:0:f:ff:ff:ff, and so it dutifully sends packets on. In
essence, weve created a "virtual machine" on that IP address.
Now, LaBrea also watches for TCP traffic destined for the ether address 0:0:f:ff:ff:ff. When it sees an inbound TCP SYN packet, it replies with a SYN/ACK that "tarpits" that connection attempt. Everything else is ignored. (Well... sort of. LaBrea also tries to give its "virtual machines" some character... you can ping them, and they respond to a SYN/ACK with a RST.
Theres more to it than that (obviously...) but youll need to read further.
Enhancements:
- src/ctl.c (ctl_init_arrays): Remove call to sleep since not supposed to mix with alarm calls on linux.
- src/utils.c (util_alarm), src/labrea.c: Set alarm and signal handlers after going into daemon mode so that child will get signal
- src/labrea_init.c, src/lbio.c: Take out fudge code since libdnet 1.7 ethopen now uses the libdnet device names (ie eth1, etc).

xquarto 2.5

xquarto 2.5

xquarto project is a two-player board game based on logic. more>>
xquarto project is a two-player board game based on logic.

Xquarto is a board game designed for the X windows environment. The game is a two-player game, although for the moment,it is only possible to play against the computer. The board is composed of 4x4 squares and 16 pieces. Each piece has four
properties: black or brown, horizontal or vertical, solid or hollow, round or square. This makes up 16 possible combinations and there is exactly one piece for each possibility.

Initially, the board is empty and it is successively filled with pieces. The game is over when a row, a column or a diagonal has four pieces carrying a common property in it, e.g. four black (brown) pieces, four square (round) pieces, four filled
(hollow) pieces, four horizontal (vertical) pieces. In the original quarto rules, the player who is the first to complete a row, column or diagonal as described above wins. This is the implicit mode under which xquarto runs. A variant of the game (tic rules) consists rather of avoiding alignments, i.e. the player who is forced to complete
an alignment loses.

The game is a two-player game. Player 1 chooses one of the 16 pieces. Player 2 then places this piece on one of the 16 squares of the board and chooses a piece out of the remaining 15 pieces which he gives to player 1, who places this piece on one of the remaining 15 squares on the board, etc...

Xquarto supports three different player combinations: human vs computer, computer vs human and human vs human (possibly through the local network in the latter case). The default combination is human vs computer, i.e. the human player starts the game against the computer. This can be changed by clicking on the "Actions" menu (see below for more details).

The rules are really very simple - believe me!

Azureus Speed Control is a project that enables automatic configuration of your upload limit. more>>
Azureus Speed Control is a project that enables automatic configuration of your upload limit. This addresses the problem of implicit additional upload when Azureus downloads with high speed, which can lead to connection choking. This is a problem specially for users with low upload bandwidth like German ADSL users.

If your download rate increases, the upload limit will be reduced by a value that can be customized. If the download rate decreases, the upload limit will increase again.

AbiWord 2.5.2

AbiWord 2.5.2

The AbiWord word processor is a full-featured cross-platform word processor. more>>
AbiWord is rapidly becoming a state of the art Word Processor, with lots of features useful for your daily work, personal needs, or for just some good old typing fun.

AbiWord project is unique among word processors in its drive to become a fully cross-platform word processor. Our source code is carefully written so that AbiWord will run on virtually any operating system with a minimum of time spent on porting.

This combined with our support for internationalization (the ability to run AbiWord in many languages) gives AbiWord a massive potential user-base.

Enjoy your favorite Word Processor on the operating system you like to use - be it Windows, Linux, QNX, FreeBSD or Solaris.

AbiWord has been designed to integrate perfectly with the operating system it runs on. It will take advantage of the functionality provided by the system, such as image loading or printing capabilities.

What use is a Word Processor when you cant share your documents with your friends? AbiWord is able to read and write all industry standard document types, such as OpenOffice.org documents, Microsoft Word documents, WordPerfect documents, Rich Text Format documents, HTML web pages and many more.

Give your document that professional, scientific or fun-to-read look using AbiWords advanced document layout options. Use tables, bullets, lists, images, footnotes, endnotes and styles to enhance the way your document looks.

Since not everyone in the world speaks the same language, AbiWord comes in many different languages. AbiWord is available in most common and many not-so-common languages.

Make sure your document contains none of those nasty spelling errors by using AbiWords built-in spelling checker. Dictionaries exist for over 30 languages.

AbiWord supports right-to-left, left-to-right, and mixed-mode text. This means that in addition to supporting European languages, AbiWord supports languages like Hebrew and Arabic as well.

Do you also hate writing tens of thousands form letters by hand? With AbiWords Mail Merge capabilities, you can let AbiWord automate that job for you. Special fields inserted into a template document can automatically be replaced with data coming from a variety of sources, such as Relational Databases, Comma Separated Text files or Tabbed Text files.

To facilitate the use of AbiWord in a server environment, a powerful command line interface is offered to AbiWord. This allows you to generate form letters, print documents or convert documents to any file format AbiWord supports - all from the command line!

The main AbiWord program is very small and requires very little resources to run. This allows AbiWord the be used on systems that are not considered "State of the Art" anymore, which comes all too quickly in the IT world.

Our plugin system was designed to give AbiWord all the functionality you might expect from a modern Word Processor. A variety of plugins can be used to extend the number AbiWords functionality and range from Document Importers to a Thesaurus, Image Importers and a Text Summarizer.

Zebedee 2.5.3

Zebedee 2.5.3

Zebedee is a simple program to establish an encrypted, compressed tunnel for TCP/IP or UDP data transfer between two systems. more>>
Zebedee is a simple program to establish an encrypted, compressed "tunnel" for TCP/IP or UDP data transfer between two systems.
This allows data from, for example, telnet, ftp and X sessions to be protected from snooping. You can also use compression, either with or without data encryption, to gain performance over low-bandwidth networks.
Zebedee is made with next goals in mind:
Provide client and server functionality under both UNIX/Linux and Windows.
Be easy to install, use and maintain with little or no configuration required.
Have a small footprint, low wire protocol overhead and give significant traffic reduction by the use of compression.
Use only algorithms that are either unpatented or for which the patent has expired.
Be entirely free for commercial or non-commercial use and distributed under the term of the GNU General Public Licence (see LICENCE.txt for details).
For further information on how to use Zebedee see the filezebedee.html in the distribution (or the manual page for zebedee(1) under UNIX -- it is basically the same text). Example
configuration files are also provided.
Versions of Zebedee in the 2.4.x series are stable, "production" versions. The development series, containing new features, but less well tested is numbered 2.5.x.
Enhancements:
- Fix file descriptor leak when IP address lookup fails.
- Fix problem with running a server in "reverse" mode and detached -- only
- apparent on Windows.
- Add "maxconnections" to alleviate DoS attack.
- Check for target port 0 to avoid DoS.
- Linux 64-bit port (a result of the "Linux on POWER" contest) courtesy of
- Stew Benedict . Use the "linux64" OS target.
- Upgraded version of bzip2 and zlib.

Libuninum 2.5

Libuninum 2.5

Libuninum is a library for converting Unicode strings to numbers. more>>
Libuninum is a library for converting Unicode strings to numbers. Standard functions like strtoul and strtod do this for numbers written in the usual Western number system using the Indo-Arabic numerals, but they do not handle other number systems.
The main functions take as input a UTF-32 Unicode string and compute the corresponding unsigned integer. For example, they will convert the Chinese string ??????????? to the integer 594,321 and the Devanagari string ????? to the integer 78,492. Internal computation is done using arbitrary precision arithmetic, so there is no limit on the size of the integer that can be converted.
The value of the string is returned in one of two forms. One option is a string of ASCII characters containing the decimal representation of the integer using the Indo-Arabic digits. This option has the virtue of avoiding any possibility of overflow or truncation. The other option is to obtain the value as an unsigned long integer.
If you are going to do internal calculations, this is probably the most convenient option, but some numbers (in fact, infinitely many) will not fit into an unsigned long integer. The library guarantees that no overflow or truncation will occur; if the number will not fit, it sets an error flag and returns 0.
Enhancements:
- This version adds support for the more exotic forms of Roman numerals.
- Roman numeral compatibility characters are now accepted.

libConfuse 2.5

libConfuse is a configuration file parser library, licensed under the terms of the LGPL, and written in C. more>>
libConfuse is a library for parsing configuration files. It was called libcfg before, but was changed to not confuse with other similar libraries.
It supports sections and (lists of) values (strings, integers, floats, booleans or other sections), as well as some other features (such as single/double-quoted strings, environment variable expansion, functions and nested include statements).
It makes it very easy to add configuration file capability to a program using a simple API.
The goal of libConfuse is not to be the configuration file parser library with a gazillion of features. Instead, it aims to be easy to use and quick to integrate with your code.
libConfuse was called libcfg before, but was changed to not confuse with other similar libraries.
TODO:
- add list support for simple values
- make thread safe
