Many help desk software solutions offer a self-help method, allowing the staff members in your company to submit a helpdesk request directly into the help desk system. (granted their computer is functioning enough for this) This feature greatly streamlines the process, and can increase response time for all users. Help desk support staff will not be interrupted by the phone call and have to stop working on another issue to record the call information.
In fact, it should be encouraged by the IT staff to submit all request possible with this method. When a request is entered into the system, it allows any available support personnel to respond to the request. It also allows support personnel to diversify calls, so if a calls is shown to be about a particular problem that a staff member has greater expertise with, that staff member will likely be able to solve the problem much quicker. Once each calls is resolved, the solution will then become available for future reference.
This is one of the greatest benefits an organization will receive from using a help desk system. This allows newer support staff to be able to answer many questions by simply searching the database for other calls. Also prevent 2 support staff from having to research for the same solution, this benefits in much faster response time for the end user.
Everything mentioned above will contribute to the overall quality of service in your organization, happier staff and faster response time will mean lower costs and higher productivity for your organization.

Whois Proxy provides a CGI or command line whois proxy tool.

Whois Proxy is a Perl whois tool for looking up the owners, technical contacts, abuse desk, IP address, NIC handle, or ASN of any domain on the internet.

A complete rewrite of the GeekTools whois proxy, it also runs either as a Web application or on the command line but has a few more features.

The Web interface is validated strict XHTML and CSS2.

Call this script from the Autostart folder, and it will update Kopetes away message for each interval (requires Kopete 0.12 or higher). The away messages are by default defined in ~/.kopete-away-msgs. Each line can contain either:
- a comment (starting with a #)
- flags message
The flags define some properties to each away message. Flags are defined only at the start of the line, beginning and ending with a %. The following flags are supported.
[0-9]*[smhd] Determines how long this message should be shown before a new one is chosen. This is the sleep(1) syntax.
a Only show this message when youre away.
c This line is a command, use its output as away message.
i Show the contents of a file, line by line. The message should contain the path to the file. Do not use ~ but use /home/$USER instead. Empty lines in the included file are skipped.
n Use the next message in the file for the next iteration.
o Only show this message when youre online.
x Dont use this message when looking for a random message. This means this line is only accessible when the former line contains the n flag.

To determine your online status, you need to have the Web Presence plugin enabled. By default, it reads the file ~/.webstatus.xml. Adapt the variable below if you store the file somewhere else. The script wont do anything when youre offline or partially away (that is, some protocols are Away, some protocols are Online).
Because the web status plugin is used, the process of retrieving the current webstatus is not really reliable. It may happen that you turn back to online when you set the status on Away in a short time. If this doesnt happen in about 10 seconds after the status change, you may consider the status change as successful.

Gaim is a multi-protocol instant messaging client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM (Oscar and TOC protocols), ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, and Zephyr networks.
Gaim users can log in to multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on AOL Instant Messenger, talking to a friend on Yahoo Messenger, and sitting in an IRC channel all at the same time.
Gaim supports many features of the various networks, such as file transfer (coming soon), away messages, typing notification, and MSN window closing notification.
It also goes beyond that and provides many unique features.
A few popular features are Buddy Pounces, which give the ability to notify you, send a message, play a sound, or run a program when a specific buddy goes away, signs online, or returns from idle; and plugins, consisting of text replacement, a buddy ticker, extended message notification, iconify on away, and more.

SourceBase is a parser library aimed at developers of free Integrated Development Environments.

It should make implementing advanced features such as intellisense code completion, call trees, symbol browsers, etc. a no-brainer. SourceBase is a tear-away development from Source Navigator.

The current aim is to support C and C++, and to provide a clean API. Future aims include addition of more languages such as Java, PHP/HTML/ASP, Perl, Python, FORTRAN and COBOL.

SourceBase uses code from Source Navigator and is licenced under GNU GPL. One of our aims is to move to a more commerce-friendly licence such as LGPL in the future. However, for that to happen, we need to move away from the source navigator codebase to fresh code. All new code contributions should be dual licenced under GPL/LGPL.

BlueProximity project helps you add a little more security to your desktop. It does so by detecting one of your bluetooth devices, most likely your mobile phone, and keeping track of its distance. If you move away from your computer and the distance is above a certain level (no measurement in meters is possible) for a given time, it automatically locks your desktop (or starts any other shell command you want).

Once away your computer awaits its master back - if you are nearer than a given level for a set time your computer unlocks magically without any interaction (or starts any other shell command you want).

Koparok script sets the away message in Kopete to a preset message, which may contain the current artist, song, album and/or length of the song which is playing (in amaroK).

Its heavily based upon the TTS-script by Paul Giannaros.

You already have the same ability in Kopete, but if for some reason it wont work for you, you have an alternative. It might also be easier to integrate into other im-clients.

Destick is a desktop metronome that is designed to just work. It depends on aKode 2.0 and you need CMake 2.4 to install it.
To install it just unpack the archive, `cd into the folder and enter `cmake ., `make and `install.
By default it installs to `/usr/local. You can change that by giving `cmake . this parameter: `-DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=path.
Enhancements:
- Switched away from aKode to SDL_mixer for soundoutput which guarantees more precision.
- Added a visualization in which the beat is shown with a sinus cruve.
