W3T URL Shrinker 0.2

w3t.org URL Shrinker is a small url generator via right-click. more>>
w3t.org URL Shrinker is a small url generator via right-click. When you want to share a long URL (like on many news articles), just right-click on the page you want to link to and choose "Shorten this URL"; and youll get a super-short URL to use that forwards to the longer one.

The site now includes the ability to use custom URL "tags" like "ff" as in http://w3t.org/?c=ff The next version of the extension should include this new site feature.

AVI TV Episode File Resizer 1.0

AVI TV Episode File Resizer 1.0

AVI TV Episode File Resizer was made to fit (resize the file) multiple Xvid TV episodes (entire season) on a single DVD. more>>
AVI TV Episode File Resizer script is not for multiple MOVIE files (only TV) however it can do SINGLE MOVIE files quite nicely. The project was designed to help me fit (resize the file) multiple Xvid TV episodes (entire season) on a single DVD. Most of the time a TV series is almost exactly the same hours, mins, secs.

That enables this script to set the video bitrate the same for every file (episode) being processed to get the desired file size. The calculation is based on the hours, mins, seconds and the desired file size you want. If you correctly enter the time you will end up with a file size VERY close to the value you entered. The episodes will likley vary about 10 secs or so. Try to average that out when you select the episode time

The new files will have the EXACT same name as the old files so the input and output cannot be in the same DIRECTORY.

The "input files" selector can select multiple files so you can encode one or many files.

If you select an entire season (about 25 episodes) of files it could take quite a few hours to complete. The progress bar updates AFTER the completion of the first file and after every file there after. The current file being processed is displayed in the bottom status bar.

Transcode single pass is used to REencode the files.

Each file will be REencoded with MP3 audio bitrate of 96 kbps. The video is REencoded with the Xvid4 codec.

I used this script to go from 230MB to 175MB with good results. That saved me almost 1.4G for the season (25 episodes) and let me get it on a single DVD to play on my stand alone player.

You should try it with a single file first to check the quality and then do a batch job.

There are other tools to do this but this one can be setup and going in less than 1 min.

It takes almost 10 hours to do an entire season (25 episodes) at an episode time of 25 min 30 sec with a target file size of 171MB (ends up being about 174.8MB)

VFU File Manager 4.05

VFU File Manager 4.05

VFU is console (text mode) file manager for UNIX/Linux. more>>
VFU is console (text mode) file manager for UNIX/Linux.

During the years I tried to make short attractive list of features which VFU has. Attractive as Advertising above :) and it does not seem to work... at least it didnt for me and I never liked it.

I made all possible to make VFU cover all file managing needs and offer large set of behaviour options. If I succeeded or not, you can decide for yourself but without trying I believe noone can say for sure.

Installation:

1. how to compile vfu

run `make from vfu base directory

this should compile everything

to compile each part of vfu manually do this:

-- go to `vslib directory
-- run `make
-- go to `vfu directory
-- run `make

if something goes wrong, check these:

-- if your `curses.h file locations is not `/usr/include/ncurses
you have to change this in the Makefile.

-- if vslib library is not in the `../vslib directory you also
have to change this in the Makefile.

2. how to install vfu

run `install script from vfu base directory

install script checks if all required files are available/built and then does this:

cp vfu/vfu rx/rx_* /usr/local/bin
cp vfu.1 /usr/local/man/man1
cp vfu.conf /usr/local/etc

3. how to install vfu manually

-- you have to copy `vfu in the `/usr/local/bin or
`/usr/bin directory and set mode to 755 `rwxr-xr-x
the owner is not significant ( root is also possible ).

-- there is preliminary man page ( vfu.1 ) which could be
copied to /usr/man/man1.

-- copy all `rx/rx_* tools to /usr/local/bin
-- install Net::FTP perl module if needed.
(this is used for FTP support)

WARNING: make sure to remove all old personal cache files!

X File Explorer 1.00

X File Explorer 1.00

X File Explorer is a file manager for the X Window System. more>>
X File Explorer (Xfe) is an MS-Explorer like file manager for X. X File Explorer is based on the popular, but discontinued, X Win Commander, originally developed by Maxim Baranov.
Xfe aims to be the file manager of choice for all the Unix addicts!
Why another file manager when the excellent Konqueror or Nautilus exist on Linux systems? The answer is quite simple : these file managers are very good, features rich and look wonderful, but they are like a brontosaurus when you are a console addict and only want to copy some files or delete it. Another problem is that they require either the whole Gnome or KDE desktops to be installed on your system!
On the contrary, Xfe is small, very rapid and only requires the FOX library to be fully functional. It can be launched from the command line in a fraction of second, and can efficiently complete the set of command line tools.
Main features:
- Four different file manager styles (one panel, two panels, tree list and one panel, tree list and two panels)
- Integrated text viewer (X File View, xfv)
- Integrated RPM viewer / installer / uninstaller (X File Query, xfq)
- Status line
- File associations
- Auto save registry
- Right mouse click pop-up menu in tree list and file list
- Change file(s) attributes
- Mount/Unmount devices (for Linux only)
- Toolbar
- Bookmarks (up to 20)
- Color schemes (GNOME, KDE, Windows...)
- Drag and Drop ( ctrl -> copy, shift -> move, alt -> symlink )
- Create / Extract archives (tar, zip, gzip, bzip2, compress formats are supported)
- Tool tips for long file names
- Progress bars or dialogs for lengthy file operations
- Image preview as thumbnails
- Ability to enqueue multimedia files (open command)

file*HANDLER 0.13

file*HANDLER 0.13

file*HANDLER is primarily a Perl script which coordinates some free media conversion packages with a PostgreSQL back end. more>>
file*HANDLER project is primarily a Perl script which coordinates some free media conversion packages (cited later) with a PostgreSQL back end accessing server to index and serve binary and text files direct from the database. A simple CGI file with embedded AJAX makes calls to this server which is also constantly looking for other alive f*H servers on the Internet.
Since the server caches media into the SQL database on demand, as the network grows, the network improves.
Its gridded directory sharing/browsing/searching with streaming audio/video as well as flat text/doc/pdf/image display for everyone. Its written with a few hooks for tags that would be included in your actual front page so that the UI is discard-able -- anyone can quickly rewrite a whole new [GT]UI without having to worry about the syntax of the newest version of dojo.licio.r or whatever.
If you wanted to ignore the JS/HTML/CSS hooks then you can easily use the system to make direct requests that just return lists formatted as HTML table-bodies. In other words, the markup IS the markup.
As such, Ive whipped up a Dojo 0.2 Widget that coordinates the serving backend with a UI so anyone can embed f*H functionality anywhere, or easily customize a provided default page.
A file*HANDLER server is really a few constituent parts Ive tied up for you (top down):
- A local web page providing the UI(served by an HTTP server of your choice) that is generated by a cgi script with embedded AJAX.
- A secondary portion of the same CGI script, acting as middle-ware, which communicates, via AJAX, with the local front page to reconcile asynchronous JavaScript requests with the file*HANDLER sub-network back-end.
- An always-on network server written in PERL that serves to the front and end communicates laterally with everyone elses file*HANDLER back-end PERL server additionally, it manages indexing of content directories you choose to serve.
- A PostgreSQL database that is accessed only via internal PERL routines called from your front page.
So for example, a remote user comes to your site. First, not only can they browse and search your files, but they can also browse and search the files of anyone else hosting a file*HANDLER server that your local server knows about. (file*HANDLER identifies other servers on the network automatically). The user can now read/view/listen/watch by stream any content they find from whomevers server. Theres no download, so theres so actual sharing, just direct streaming to the users browser.

Daizu::File 0.3

Daizu::File 0.3

Daizu::File is a Perl class representing files in working copies. more>>
Daizu::File is a Perl class representing files in working copies.

Each object of this class represents a particular file in a Daizu CMS working copy (a record in the wc_file table).

METHODS

Note that all the functions which return the value of a Subversion property will strip leading and trailing whitespace, and treat a value which is empty or entirely whitespace as if it wasnt set at all.

Daizu::File->new($cms, $file_id)

Return a new Daizu::File object for the file with the specified ID number.

$file->data

Return a reference to a string containing the file data (content).

$file->wc

Return a Daizu::Wc object representing the working copy in which this file lives.

$file->guid_uri

Return the GUID URI for this file.

$file->directory_path

Returns the path of a directory, either the same as the file if its a directory itself, or the path of its parent directory, or if its at the top level.

$file->permalink

Returns the first URL generated by the file, which will be the URL you want to link to most of the time. For articles this will always be the normal HTML version of the article, even if there are also other URLs available for it, and it will always be the first page of multipage articles. For non-article files there is no guarantee about what this will return, but most will only generate a single URL anyway, and for those that dont generators are likely to return the most linkable URL first.

The URL returned is an absolute URL provided as a URI object.

Returns nothing if the file doesnt generate any URLs.

There are some cases where this might not be what you want. For example, the root directory of a website using Daizu::Gen will either not generate a URL at all, or will generate one for a Google sitemap XML file, neither of which is likely to be useful for linking. To get the URL of the website you would probably need to find a file called something like _index.html. On the other hand, the Daizu::Gen::Blog generator will give you a sensible URL for the blog homepage if you call this on its root directory.

$file->urls_in_db($method, $argument)

Return a list of the URLs (plain strings, each an absolute URI) of the file which have the specified method and argument values, drawing from the url table in the database.

$file->article_urls

Return information about the URLs which the file should have, if it is an article. Fails if it isnt.

File::Size 0.06

File::Size 0.06

File::Size is a Perl module to get the size of files and directories. more>>

SYNOPSIS

Get the size for directory /etc/ with the block size of 1024 while following symbolic links:

my $obj = File::Size->new(
dir => /etc/,
blocksize => 1024,
followsymlinks => 1,
humanreadable => 1
);
print $obj->getsize(), "n";

File::Size is used to get the size of files and directories.

There are 6 methods you can use:

new

There are 4 optional hash values for the new() method:

dir

The directory you want the module to get the size for it. Default is current working directory.

blocksize

The blocksize for the output of getsize() method. default is 1 (output in bytes).

followsymlinks

If you want to follow symlinks for directories and files, use this option. The default is not to follow symlinks.

humanreadable

If you want output size in human readable format (e.g. 2048 -> 2.0K), set this option to 1.

You dont have to specify any of those options, which means this is okay:
print File::Size->new()->getsize(), " bytesn";

This is okay too:
print File::Size->new()->setdir( /etc/ )->setblocksize( 1024**2 )->getsize(), " MBn";

setdir

Used to set (or get - if called without parameters) the directory. Example: $obj->setdir( /etc/ );

setblocksize

Used to set (or get - if called without parameters) the block size. Example: $obj->setblocksize( 1024 );

setfollowsymlinks

Used to set if you want to follow symbolic links or not. If called without parmeters, returns the current state. Example: $obj->setfollowsymlinks( 1 );

sethumanreadable

Used to set (or get - if called without parameters) if you want human-readable output sizes. Example: $obj->sethumanreadable( 1 );

getsize

Used to calculate the total size of the directory. Prints output according to the block size you did or didnt specify.

TiVo File Decoder 0.2pre2

TiVo File Decoder 0.2pre2

TiVo File Decoder software converts a .TiVo file. more>>
TiVo File Decoder software converts a .TiVo file (produced by the TiVoToGo functionality on recent TiVo software releases) to a normal MPEG file.
This has the same functionality as using TiVos supplied DirectShow DLL on Windows with a tool such as DirectShowDump, but is portable to different architectures and operating systems, and runs on the command line using files or pipes.
The conversion still requires the valid MAK of the TiVo which recorded the file, so it cannot be used to circumvent their protection, simply to provide the same level of access as is already available on Windows.
Usage: ./objects.dir/tivodecode [--help] [--verbose|-v] [--no-verify|-n] {--mak|-m} mak [{--out|-o} outfile] < tivofile >
--mak, -m media access key (required)
--out, -o output file (default stdout)
--verbose, -v verbose
--no-verify, -n do not verify MAK while decoding
--help print this help and exit
Enhancements:
- Fixes a merge error in tivodecoder.h which included several headers before including tdconfig.h, causing some needed defines not to be defined in those headers

i.File 0.2 Alpha

i.File 0.2 Alpha

i.File is a file manager for Linux written for the Windows refugees that are arriving in Linux. more>>
i.File is a file manager for Linux written for the Windows refugees that are arriving in Linux only to find that the state of the user interface is rather poor. I personally somewhat fall into this catagory, although more as a power user than the average Joe.
Both the leading file managers for KDE and Gnome are well... not to put too fine a point on it: crap. There are just not ready for everyday use by normal people, because of the untold number of bugs in the usability and function that are STILL there 3 years after they first infested Linux desktops.
Not that this project will start off any better, but my hope is that itll end far more successfully than the aforementioned software. i.File project is targetted at other developers in an attempt to get some help with bringing it up to speed. Enough of the basic code layout and implementation is done so that the user can see how things should work. And now its just time to fill in the blanks and bust those bugs.
Main features:
- Be fast. i.File doesnt load icons for every file by its mime type. Because that takes too long. All the algorithms are designed to make it fast. The use of hashtables is pervasive. At no point should "eye candy" ever take precedence over speed. Startup/shutdown time should be sub-second. Drag and drop should have latencies around 100ms at most.
- All views of the same inode (file/dir/etc) point back to the same object, thus when the object changes, all views of that automatically update.
- Network accesses and all other tasks that can take time should be threaded. There is no excuse for locking up the GUI thread while the application goes off to get some data.
- Be minimal. i.File is not a thumb nail viewer, or any other type of viewer. Applications do the viewing, not the file manager. Viewing tasks bloat up the file manager.
- Every file is typed with a mime type. This is marginally better than using a files extension to associate it with an application.
- The Win2k implementation of Windows Explorer is the basis for some of the user interface because it works, people are used to it, and its "the standard". And no the experiments with file manager UI in Linux didnt work. They suck badly, thats why there is i.File in the first place.

# A slightly more worthwhile use...
my @fields = $sig->changed();
for my $field (@fields) {
printf "$field was: %s but changed to %s.n",
$sig->old_and_new($field);
}

ABSTRACT

This perl library uses perl5 objects to assist in determining whether a files contents or attributes have changed. It maintains several pieces of information about the file: a digest (currently only MD5 is supported), its inode number, its mode, the uid of its owner, the gid of its group owner, and its last modification time. A File::Signature object is closely associated with a single pathname. It provides a way to compare the state of a file over different points in time; it isnt useful for comparing different files.

This module provides a way to monitor files for changes. It implements an object oriented interface to file "signatures." In the case of this module, a signature includes an MD5 digest (other digests may be added later), the files size, its inode number, its mode, its owners uid, its groups gid, and its mtime. This information is associated with a file by the files "pathname." The pathname is considered to be the files unique identifier. In reality, a file may have more than one pathname, but this module doesnt recognize that.

It will simply treat two differing pathnames as two different files, even if they refer to the same file. As this module checks whether a file changes over time, a minimal use of it would include the time when the signature was created and a different time when the signature is regenerated and compared with the previous one. The amount of time between these checks is arbitrary. This module makes it easy to save a signature object and then load it and check for consistency at a later time, whether seconds or years have passed.
