playvideo is a video player for svgalib that supports AVI, Quicktime (though not all codecs are supported), MPEG-1, and MPEG-2 formats. Most of the codecs are ported from xanim (or are xanim binary codecs). The parts from xanim are to be found mainly in the vidplay.c file. This makes this program subject to the xanim copyright (see README.xanim).

You can use the program for non-commercial purpose, but you need a License from Mark Podlipec for commercial use. Modified versions have included Marks copyright.

kavi2dvd is a Kommander script takes an AVI file, converts it to mpeg2 with ac3 audio and generates an .iso image ready for burning as its ouput.

Although there are plenty of scripts out there for conversion of video and authoring, this one is designed to require as little user input as possible. Choose an input .avi, select the destination folder, give the project a name and choose NTSC or PAL.

It then automates the full process of creating a dvd-video compatible image for playback on a stand-alone dvd player.

Dvgrab 2.0

Dvgrab receives the audio and video data from a digital camcorder via the ieee1394 interface and stores into an AVI file. more>>
Dvgrab receives the audio and video data from a digital camcorder via the ieee1394 interface and stores into an AVI file. It features autosplit of long video sequences into several files, and supports saving the data as raw frames, AVI type 1 and AVI type 2.
To use the program, turn on the camera, press play, and run the command in a terminal:
dvgrab --frames 200 myfilm-
If you have properly configured your kernel and your ieee1394 device drivers, you should end up with about 30 MByte of DV image data nicely packed in a file myfilm-001.avi (digits and extension automatically appended), which can be displayed with the Microsoft Media Player or a similar program (remember to install the required DV codecs, software
should be included with your hardware).
Read the man page for more documentation or dvgrab --help. Please submit bug reports, fixes, or suggestions to http://bugzilla.schirmacher.de/ or access the discussion forum
at http://kino.schirmacher.de/. Be sure to read the NEWS file for very helpful release notes.
Enhancements:
- riff.cc, riff.h, avi.cc, avi.h, endian_types.h (added): make RIFF and AVI classes endian and architecture safe (Daniel Kobras).

av_convert 0.2.2

av_convert 0.2.2

The main part of av_convert is a C++ API for accessing audio/video files (AVI, Quicktime, YUV4MPEG stream, WAV, etc.). more>>
av_convert consists of some tools for the manipulation of video files.
In more detail av_rec can capture live video and audio from any v4l framegrabber device. The program av_convert can convert between some video file formats and provide basic editing functions.
This includes extracting arbitrary parts out of different video files and combining them in one destination file. Information about videos, such as length and contained audio and video streams can be obtained by av_info.
All the functionality needed for accessing the audio and video stored in file containers is provided by a library (libVideoFile). This functionality includes frame exact positioning in the audio and video streams and decoding/encoding of the compressed data stored in the files.
The different file types and audio/video codecs are handled by individual plugin modules. These I/O backends and codecs are loaded by libVideoFile at runtime. For now, there are plugins for the most important file formats like AVI (including extension for large files), Quicktime, MPEG/DVD, YUV4MPEG stream, WAV, mp3, etc.
Enhancements:
- Compatibility with gcc 4.0 and SPARC64/Linux was improved.
