Variable Expression Library 1.1

Variable Expression Library 1.1

Variable Expression Library is a C++ library that expands variables in text buffers. more>>
libvarexp is a C++ library that allows its users to detach any kind of information from the representation of that information by providing a simple-to-use but powerful text-template mechanism.

Similar mechanisms have been available in tools like sh(1), make(1), or perl(1) forever and have proven to be very useful.

The basic idea is that the relevant information is made available in variables, which the author of the template can than use within the text itself as he or she sees fit.

Consider, for example, a tool that will calculate the monthly financial reports of a small company.

Such a program should only calculate the required values, it should not worry about writing the resulting reports into an HTML file, a CSV file, or whatever format is desired. Instead, it should make the results of the calculation available in the variables "$TURNOVER", "$PROFIT", and "$INCREASE".

Then, using libvarexp, it could load an arbitrary template file and have the actual values inserted at the apropriate positions. Without changing a single line of code, one could generate the monthly report in HTML

yatesParse 0.2

yatesParse 0.2

yatesParse is a C++ library for parsing and handling command line arguments. more>>
yatesParse is a C++ library for parsing and handling command line arguments. It can handle normal arguments (foo --help, foo -h, etc) and arguments with values (foo --file evilplans.txt, foo -f evilplans.txt, etc).

A small example program using yatesParse is available in SVN. Complete Doxygen docs are available in both the Docs section of the yatesParse website, and in SVN.

A brief explanation of how yatesParse works:

Command line arguments are added by calling the add_option function, the user must specify the option to add and the address of the function to call when that argument has been detected.

When the parsing function detects an argument, a function of the users choice is called and, if the argument takes a value, the value is passed to the function.

yatesParse can also generate output for --help from the options added and program information that the user specifies.

Filesystem in Userspace 2.7.0

Filesystem in Userspace 2.7.0

Filesystem in Userspace is an interface for filesystems implemented in userspace. more>>
FUSE can implement a fully functional filesystem in a userspace program.
Main features:
- Simple library API
- Simple installation (no need to patch or recompile the kernel)
- Secure implementation
- Userspace - kernel interface is very efficient
- Usable by non privileged users
- Runs on Linux kernels 2.4.X and 2.6.X
- Has proven very stable over time
Installation
Some projects include the whole FUSE package (for simpler installation). In other cases or just to try out the examples FUSE must be installed first. The installation is simple, after unpacking enter:
./configure
make
make install
If this produces an error, please read on.
The configure script will try to guess the location of the kernel source. In case this fails, it may be specified using the --with-kernel parameter. Building the kernel module needs a configured kernel source tree matching the running kernel. If you build your own kernel this is no problem. On the other hand if a precompiled kernel is used, the kernel headers used by the FUSE build process must first be prepared. There are two possibilities:
1. A package containing the kernel headers for the kernel binary is available in the distribution (e.g. on Debian its the kernel-headers-X.Y.Z package for kernel-image-X.Y.Z)
2. The kernel source must be prepared:
- Extract the kernel source to some directory
- Copy the running kernels config (usually found in /boot/config-X.Y.Z) to .config at the top of the source tree
- Run make menuconfig, then make dep at the top of the source tree (only needed on 2.4 kernels)
If using the 2.6 kernel, then write access is needed to some files in the kernel source tree. Usually it is enough if you make .tmp_versions and .__modpost.cmd writable.
Enhancements:
- Stacking support for the high level API
- Add filename charset conversion module
- Improved mounting
