Linux Replicated High Availability Manager 1.2.6
Linux Replicated High Availability Manager allows the creation of clusters for application high availability through data. more>>
The Linux Replicated High Availability Manager (aka Linuxha.net) allows the creation of clusters for application high availability through data replication.
Currently, clusters are limited to two nodes, but multiple applications can be hosted and failed-over between the nodes. The software uses DRBD to provide the data replication facillity.
Although this shared-nothing type architecture is typically more complex to configure and manage the Linuxha.net toolset attempts to manage much of this complexity for the administrator.
Much of the initial development and testing took place on various Linux 2.4 based distributions. More recently development and testing has taken place on Linux 2.6 distributions (primarily Fedora Core), ensuring the product works as expected on the latest available distribution releases.
Much effort has been spent ensuring that significant levels of support documentation is available. The documentation section now contains several guides as well as a user manual.
Please note that the user manual will eventually be replaced by a reference guide and various installation and user guides. Keep changing the documentation page regularly - these will be added when they are completed and aim to just cover specific topics.
Enhancements:
- Improvements were made to handling physical network link checking.
- Improvements were made for local IP fail-over.
- More flexible cluster partitioning handling was implemented.

Voltalinux 1.0
Voltalinux is a GNU/Linux distribution based on Slackware Linux and the pkgsrc package system from NetBSD. more>>
Voltalinux is a GNU/Linux distro based on Slackware GNU/linux and the pkgsrc package system from NetBSD. The two pieces of software put together give you great power.
Great availability of software for a strong and solid distribution as Linux Slackware. The pkgsrc is already available to the linux user.
Now this project want to offer a prebuilt distribution with those feature readily available. Any user can enjoy the clean design of slackware with the availability of about 5400 ports (real ports) ready to be installed.
In minutes you can have running software such as postfix or courier, imap, qmail and so on.
The distro is a core based on about 60 packages from Slackware 10.2 and the pkgsrc 2005 Q3 (packaged for slack) system from NetBSD.
The advantage is that mantaining only few quantity of pieces it is possible to have a complete operating system (thanks to the existing work of many other, of course !!!)
The distribution is mainly intended for server use but you can do what you want.
Main features:
- is Slackware 100% compatible, whatever is done for slack work also on Voltalinux !!!
- you dont have to compile anything to have a working system (in about half an hour you have a base system)
- you have many prebuilt kernels
- more than 5400 ports ready to be used.
Version restrictions:
- you will have two packages system living together one for the core system (slack), the other for the applications (ports)

J-EAI 1.0 Beta6
J-EAI is an XMPP-based Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) platform. more>>
J-EAI is the first Open Source EAI built as a free software standards-based solution.
J-EAI is built on:
- XML: XML is the new standard for data exchange between heterogeneous systems. It is normalized by the W3C.
- XMPP: XMPP stands for eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol. It is standardized by the IETF and is extremely extensible.
Main features:
Cross organisation integration
- J-EAI has been designed to enable applications integration in process that are not limited to the boundary of a single organisation. Its routing mechanism allows several instances of J-EAI managed by different organisation to be interconnected while keeping all the systems independant.
A J-EAI cluster can serve a single domain
- J-EAI works as a cluster to ensure scalability and high-availability. This is an important feature as organisation deploying EAI data bus become highly dependant of the system: high-availability and scalability is thus a must.
Flexible design and extensible data bus
- The J-EAI bus is entirely based on XML and is design as an extensible architecture. This makes it easy to extend and to integrate with legacy application, whatever the technology they are build-in.
Enhancements:
- This version supports collection nodes in the pub sub module.
- Node collection support increases the flexibility of the publish and subscribe model.
- Several bugs have been also fixed.

rdiald is an application which allows users from a local network to initiate dialup connections.
rdiald allows users in your home network to initiate a dialup connection to one of a freely configurable set of internet service providers on the server rdiald is running on. Multiple users can be online at the same time, and the connection is only terminated once the last user goes offline.
The users are allowed to execute any commands that have been defined previously on the server and to hang up as soon as these commands have finished.
Enhancements:
- improved handling of mulitple clients, especially during
- hang-up phase
- -i command-line option to bind to a specific interface only
- detection of a newly established dialup-link has changed:

Mantaray 2.0
Mantaray is a fully distributed peer-to-peer serverless communication & messaging solution, 100% pure Java. more>>
MantaRay project is an innovative open-source data messaging project that was designed to address the continuously changing structure of todays IT environments. MantaRay uses a new approach ? peer-to-peer serverless architecture ? that allowed its development team to create a solution that is significantly more powerful and more efficient than traditional systems.
Being lightweight and OS-agnostic, MantaRay is ideal for heterogeneous, distributed, high-traffic environments. It is highly scalable, providing much faster performance than traditional messaging systems, such as buses and brokers. MantaRays serverless design can also help IT organizations dramatically reduce hardware and operational costs.
While traditional messaging systems such as brokers, buses and home-grown solutions were appropriate for monolithic IT environments, MantaRays design takes into account the continuously changing structure of todays IT environments. By using a peer-to-peer serverless architecture, it provides distributed environments with significantly faster performance and a higher level of robustness, as well as a comparatively rapid implementation time.
MantaRays flexible and lightweight design enables it to be embedded at the application level, thus bringing all functionality to the edges and eliminating the problem of having a single point of congestion and failure. The solution brings high reliability, scalability and availability to enterprise-grade messaging, and is capable of supporting multiple components, business partners, and locations.
The open-source, OS-independent, standards-based MantaRay solution combines cutting edge technologies such as XML, enterprise-grade communication services, and Service Oriented Architecture. Building on the MantaRay framework, developers can cost-effectively create real-time data messaging solutions that reliably connect applications and provide guaranteed delivery, security and transactions.
As a Java Messenger Service (JMS) provider, MantaRay is written in 100% pure Java, supports JMS 1.x & RMI APIs, provides TCP, UDP & SSL transports, and integrates with WebLogic & WebSphere. Wackamole 2.1.3
Wackamole is an application that helps with making a cluster highly available. more>>
Wackamole is an application that helps with making a cluster highly available. The project manages a bunch of virtual IPs, that should be available to the outside world at all times. Wackamole ensures that a single machine within a cluster is listening on each virtual IP address that Wackamole manages.
If it discovers that particular machines within the cluster are not alive, it will almost immediately ensure that other machines acquire these public IPs. At no time will more than one machine listen on any virtual IP. Wackamole also works toward achieving a balanced distribution of number IPs on the machine within the cluster it manages.
Wakamole operates on a cluster of tightly connected machines (all on the same LAN). It works by managing a pool of IP addresses that you expect to be available at all times. These IP addresses are virtual (meaning no machine has any of those IPs as its default IP address). Wackamole will work to ensure that all of the IP addresses in the pool are assigned as virtual IPs to the machines in the cluster. No IP address is held by more than one machine and every IP address is available.
This allows you to run a service using multiple DNS RR records without the worry of one of the machines crashing -- if the machine crashes, the virtual IP addresses it was responsible for will be managed by the remaining machines in the cluster.
There is no other software like Wackamole. Wackamole is quite unique in that it operates in a completely peer-to-peer mode within the cluster. Other products that provide the same high-availability guarantees use a "VIP" method. A networking appliance assumes a single virtual IP address and "maps" requests to that IP address to the machines in the cluster. This networking appliance is a single point of failure by itself, so most industry accepted solutions incorporate classic master-slave failover or bonding between two identical appliances. These networking appliances can be:
- simple commodity servers running user applications to provide high availability,
- operating system features like IPVS under Linux or similar such features under Windows 2000 and FreeBSD,
- hardware networking component like Foundry ServerIron, Cisco LocalDirector or other content-aware switch, Cisco Arrowpoint content switched, Extreme Networks load-balancers and other such hardware products.
Enhancements:
- Many changes were made.
