Free audio player software for linux

Cactus is just an audio file player. But it has some features that makes it different from other players.
There are music databases and there are players like xmms with a small and leightweight, skinable GUI.
Cactus combines these two types in one player! With Cactus you can read your music collection into a database, create a playlist by browsing/searching it and finally switch to player view(F2-Key).

GNUdap is a project to build a userspace driver to interface Linux with proprietary-protocol USB MP3 players and mass storage devices. Currently GNUdap supports the CHIC MP10, CHIC MP30, CHIC Symphony from "Perstel,Inc." and the NGS Jogger from the NGS Technology.
GNUdap is also an experiment to test the advantages of a strongly-typed programming language and of the functional programming paradigm in hardware developing. In fact GNUdap is developed using the Objective Caml programming language.
To access the devices, we use camlusb, an ocaml binding to libusb, wich is an library which works in userspace to access usb devices.
A shell, which supports the main features of the player, is provided. Besides being done for linux, unlike the original program provided with the MP10, this software is interesting because it has additional features (like being able to transfer mp3s directly to the pc, and to change the playable status of a file on the DAP), not present in the official one. A graphical frontend and a filesystem interface are planned.

MPEG Audio/Video Player is a simple MPEG and AC3 player for Linux, BSD, and Windows systems.
It plays MPEG transport, program, and elementary stream files. It also has basic DVD support (using libdvdnav on Linux/BSD sytems only).
Main features:

Whaaw! Media Player is an audio/video player using gstreamer (like totem but without GNOME dependencies).

Whaaw! Media Player will play any audio/video files which gstreamer can play. It supports fullscreen mode, seeking, changing video colour settings and more. It is inteded to be a basic media player similar to totem.

Universal Module Player or UModPlayer, is a audio module "tool-chain", providing you functions to work with modules like playing, exporting, getting information, and more.
Universal Module Player works in UNIX-like platforms, including Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, Solaris...
It uses the Custom LibModPlug audio library, an improved version of the well-known LibModPlug library, supporting more than 20 formats and giving you high playing quality. It uses LibSDL to handle multiplatform sound support.

- You can play the supported formats and seek to any order in the song. You have pause, timer, display, and other standard features.
- You can view the pattern notes while playing.
- You can specify noise reduction, megabass, surround, reverb sound options specifying the grade and the delay of most of the options.

Exporting Formats
You can export or convert any of the above formats to the following file types:

Enhancements:
- Buffer length fixes.
- Playlist commands were a pain. Now we use the first letter of the command name. Also, pressing ENTER does not quit, the user has to explicitly specify to quit pressing q
- Hopefully fixed AIFF exporting bug.
- New section in the README about LibAo configuration, and some misc. rearrangements.

FALF Player wants to be a smart, compact, light and comfortable mp3 player with tabbed playlists.

Its early pre-release and it does not represent the quality of first stable release so be careful with your notes.

Audio::Play::MPG321 is a frontend to MPG321.

This is a frontend to the MPG321 MP3 player. It talks to it in remote mode and provides constant feedback about the time elapsed so far, the time remaining, and the state of the player.

If you use Audio::Play::MPG321 directly, then you will have to do some extra work outside of the module, as demonstrated in the synopsis. If you want to build a basic queue (Play one song, then play another), then you must keep calling poll() to make sure Audio::Play::MPG321 knows how MPG321 is doing and testing state() to be 0.

Witty CD Player is a cd player program that uses cdda2wav for software buffering.

I started having problems with my CD-ROM drive skipping badly on every audio track for several months. At the same time, I wanted to try my hand at GTK. So, I decided to write the "The Witty CD Player." (The name is a play on my last name The Witty CD Player uses the cdda2wav program to perform oversampling to account for the skips.
