Me TV 0.3.0

Me TV 0.3.0

Me TV is a digital television viewer for GNOME. more>>
Me TV is a digital television viewer for GNOME.
The software was developed for the modern digital lounge room with a PC for a media centre that is capable of normal PC tasks (web surfing, word processing and watching TV). It is not designed to be a full-blown media centre such as MythTV but will integrate well with the existing GNOME desktop. If you think that a remote is something that belongs in a museum then Me TV is probably for you.
It currently supports only DVB-T but Im willing to add support for other DVB types because it seems straight forward. It just needs to be tested.
Main features:
- Completely mouse driven
- Current and future program information
- Instant Record
- Double-click fullscreen
- DVB-T and DVB-C support
- Very simple installation and set up

AmarokScreenSaver 0.4.0

AmarokScreenSaver 0.4.0

AmarokScreenSaver is an Amarok script which displays information about the currently playing song as a screensaver. more>>
AmarokScreenSaver is an Amarok script which displays information about the currently playing song as a screensaver.

I often use my computer to play music when I am having visitors or when I am just not in front of the monitor. I wanted some way to still be able to see what song was playing. As my TV is connected to the computer I decided to make a screensaver that would do just this. (you dont need to even own a TV to use this script, but my TV is in my living room and my computer is not...)

This script creates an image based on the currently playing song in Amarok, then changes your screensaver to KSlideshow and tells it to display this particular image. It restores your original screensaver settings when you stop the script or exit Amarok.

The script has some basic settings configurable via a dialog:

Party / safe - mode:

The script can be configured to lock the screensaver, you will need your password to return to the desktop. This is great if you are having a party and dont want everybody to use the computer for surfing or changing track every other minute.

DPMS:

I use display power management to turn off my monitor after a given period of time. This did not work well with my idea. Therefore I created an option to turn off DPMS, and turning it back on when the script is exited or Amarok is shut down.

Rotate image placement:

To prevent damage to the screen more than one image (three) can be created and the screensaver will randomly display these images.

gshowtv 1.2.1

gshowtv 1.2.1

GShow TV is a TV program schedule viewer and a Personal Video Recorder GUI. more>>
GShow TV is a TV program schedule viewer and a Personal Video Recorder GUI. The basic purpose of GShow TV is to provide a nice GUI for viewing tv program schedule information and for recording the programs.

GShow TV doesnt itself do the recording of the selected programs, rather it uses any PVR solution that exists. GShow TV is globally usable as it uses XMLTV to access the program schedules, and xmltv has support for multitude of countries. (mid 2004 support for Canada, the USA, the UK, Germany, Austria, Finland, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Hungary, Denmark, Japan, Sweden, France, Norway, Portugal and Romania)

The interface between the recording software and the GUI is two trivial shell scripts, which are of course modifiable by the user as they see fit. The reason why this separation is simple: On linux almost everybody who has a TV card on their computer uses a different recording solution.

The multitude of home made recording systems is countless. However, most home made systems dont include a nice GUI and hence GShow TV. GShow TV uses XMLTV for its tv listing. GShow TV can be used as a TV Guide without its recording functionality.

Japanese Vocabulary 0.6

Japanese Vocabulary 0.6

Japanese Vocabulary is, not surprisingly, an application for studying Japanese vocabulary. more>>
Japanese Vocabulary is, not surprisingly, an application for studying Japanese vocabulary. It consists of a set of cards, each with 3 pieces of information on them. The 3 pieces of information are the kanji spelling, kana reading, and English (or other language) meaning.
It uses the Leitner system for managing the cards, which means that you see the cards you know well less often than you see the ones that you dont know very well. This allows you to focus on learning those words which you are having trouble with.
The kanji representation of a word (or the kana representation if there is no corresponding kanji for that word) is shown first, and then the user can choose to show the kana and meaning for the word if he/she wants to. The user then decides if he/she got the word right or not, and the card is either moved into a higher deck (where it will be seen less often) or a lower deck (where it will be seen more often.)
Enhancements:
- Several stability enhancements were made.
- The way that cards are chosen was cleaned up.
- The ability to set which piece of data (kanji, kana, or meaning) gets shown by default when a new card is shown was added.

TechniSat Satellite TV-card Linux Driver 0.7.0

TechniSat Satellite TV-card Linux Driver 0.7.0

This driver gives you the capability to work with the MediaFocus Satellite TV card under Linux. more>>
This driver gives you the capability to work with the MediaFocus Satellite TV card under Linux. This driver contains modules for Zorans multimedia controller ZR36120/ZR36125, Micronas Intermetall Video Pixel Decoder VPX32XX series, Digital Radio Processor DRP3510 (astra digital radio decoder), Multistandard Sound Processor MSP3400 C, SGS Thompson Satellite Sound and Video Processor STV0030 and Mitels 2.6 GHz Synthesiser SP5055 (satellite tuner).

A satellite frequency table for xawtv is also included. In this table the 18/14V and 22kHz settings are placed within the frequency values. In order to avoid this dirty implementation two possible future ioctls for the v4l-API are proposed here.

The above mentioned driver was written for the ZR36120/ZR36125-based MediaFocus Sat-PC card. Nowadays TechniSat is selling a new MediaFocus card, which is based on the Philips SAA 7146 multimedia-chip. A driver for this card can be found on the official TechniSat MediafocusII website.
