Callplot is a tool for drawing call-flow diagrams of the kind common in the telecommunications industry. more>>
Callplot is a tool for drawing "call-flow" diagrams of the kind common in the telecommunications industry. Input to the tool is in a terse textual notation, and output from the tool can be in several formats, including "ASCII-art", pic format, XML, SVG, and VML.

The -pic option produces pic(1) format output, rather than the default ASCII Art. Note that the pic support is not so good implemented at the moment.

The -vml option creates output in Vector Markup Language, which is understood by Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office.

The -xml option creates output in a hybrid ascii-art/annotations XML format that is designed to be used for annotated call flows.

Project1 0.3

Project1 0.3

Project1 project is a cross-platform space simulation game. more>>
Project1 project is a cross-platform space simulation game.

Project 1 is a cross-platform space simulation game. It will have multiple single-player and multiplayer modes, with an open architecture and a complete toolset to produce new content and code.

Project1 is an open source game engine that will be used to make a space sim. It is still in early development, but we have working code available. The engine is cross-platform and will support full mods with loadable modules, in addition to many features normally found in actions games, such as a console (with command history and command editing).

Theres not much to say here because we are still in early development. If you are interested in joining, you can contact the development team. We will continue to release test builds and screenshots as we advance the engine. However, we have no one to design the game, write the story, or make the art (other than a little programmer art :), so until we find people to fill those roles it will just be an engine.

Aalib 1.4rc4

Aalib 1.4rc4

Aalib is a portable ascii art GFX library. more>>
Aalib is a portable ascii art GFX library.I vote for simplicity. There are many problems of various kinds with video cards, low frequency monitors, crashing graphical apps@dots{} AA-lib IS the solution. It works on a terminal of any kind, it is fast and portable, it gives to you standard API. It makes your old hardware more powerfull.
AA-lib is a low level gfx library just as many other libraries are. The main difference is that AA-lib does not require graphics device. In fact, there is no graphical output possible. AA-lib replaces those old-fashioned output methods with powerful ascii-art renderer. Now my linux boots with a nice penguin logo at secondary display (yes! Like Win95 does:) AA-lib API is designed to be similar to other graphics libraries. Learning a new API would be a piece of cake!
Once upon a time weve (my friend Kamil and I) bought two old Herculeses as secondary monitors. We didnt know for that time that our Diamond Stealths 64 cards would become obsolete soon. The next day we downloaded the logo of Linux Texas Users Group - nice silly penguin looking like a cowboy! It was so exciting logo ... we decided that we couldnt live without it and we wanted to see it at boot time as a logo on our secondary monitors. There was a small problem - Hercules doesnt support color graphics. So we decided to convert the penguin image to ascii art using netpbm tools.
The output was very ugly because the converting algorithm was absolutly stupid. During the night I designed a new convertor that used a font bitmap to creat an aproximation table. The output wasnt very good since the algorithm wasnt tuned so well. Many months this small piece of code was waiting on my disc for the day "D". Meanwhile I started a new project XaoS (a fractal zoomer) with my friend Thomas. And then I got an idea: Ascii Art Mandelbrots! I was really impressed by the result! XaoS was faster, portable and looking much better than ever before. I found a new way to go @dots{}
Enhancements:
- Automake/libtools/autoconf updated.
- Package restructured
- Some bugfixes.
- New "raw" keyboard driver for linux console alowing to detect key releases.
- Fixed -malign-double gcc binarry compatibility problem
- Added const keywords to sources where possible.
- AAlib.h documented
- Lots of fixes from Debian maitainer Joey Hess installed
- c2man generated manual pages added
- Rest of changelog was lost in the disc crash....
- Fixed X driver handling of refresh
- Optimized X driver
- X driver now allows setting font using AAFont environment variable
- Added aalib-config

Matanza 0.15

Matanza 0.15

Matanza project is a multiplayer space game. more>>
Matanza project is a multiplayer space game.
Matanza is a game developed by the Freaks Unidos. On it, each player controls a ship and is supposed to destroy the other players.
The game runs on a telnet server, and players need nothing but a standard telnet client to play.
All the animations are rendered in ASCII art. There are no intrinsic limits to the number of players, but a high speed connection to the server is a must.
Enhancements:
- It is now possible to specify behaviours for objects controled by the server. One can, for instance, have asteroids shot when they are approached by players.
- The coordinate system has been modified to one that is more intuitive.
- Complete rewrite. Many things might have been broken.
- Stats are now constantly shown in the messages area.

Karbon14 1.6.1

Karbon14 1.6.1

Karbon is a vector-based drawing application for KOffice. more>>
Karbon is a vector-based drawing application for KOffice. The project allows artists to create complex drawings without losing image quality when zooming in on, or resizing the drawing. You can use Karbon to add finishing touches to diagrams created using Kivio or charts created using KChart. Graphic design ideas can be quickly and easily transformed into high quality illustrations with Karbon.
What makes a vector-based drawing application like Karbon different from a pixel-based drawing application like Krita?
In a vector drawing - such as the drawing shown above - your drawing is stored as geometric shapes such as lines and curves. When the drawing is resized, the image scales smoothly.
However, in a pixel-based drawing, your drawing is stored as many dots (pixels) in rows and columns. When you resize a pixel-based image, the dots will be enlarged. This can result in jagged edges known as pixelation and aliasing and thus the quality of the image will go down. Pixel-based drawings often have larger file sizes compared to simple vector drawings.
For example: Karbon is useful for creating cartoons drawings or editing clip art which often needs to be resized to fit in a document or on a poster. Krita is more suited to painting pictures or editing photographs.
To get started with Karbon quickly, you might want to try opening and modifying some of the images from the Open Clip Art Library.

OpenArena 0.7.0

OpenArena 0.7.0

OpenArena is an open-source content package for Quake III Arena. more>>
OpenArena is an open-source content package for Quake III Arena licensed under the GPL, effectively creating a free stand-alone game.

The art direction of Open Arena is about "double" as Quake III Arena:

- double texture resolution, i.e. 512x512 as opposed to a 256x256
- double the polycount of models, instead of 700-900 youll have 1200-2000 poly players
- Sound is probably mixed in 44khz rather than 22khz, but I dunno about that as 44khz seems to crash Q3A at this moment

Hopefully the detail should still be scalable with texture resolution and LoDs for slower computers (read: my p100 with voodoo2)

Concepts would be loose, so dont expect a remake of Klesk in his original Klesk form, or any direct remakes of any map/weapon/model.
