PySpaceWar 0.9.2
PySpaceWar is a top down one or two player space game with gravity. more>>
PySpaceWar is a top down one or two player space game with gravity.
PySpaceWar is an open-source game, loosely inspired by Spacewar, Gravity Wars, and a bit by Star Control (I and II).
Two ships duel in a gravity field. Gravity doesnt affect the ships themselves (which have spanking new anti-gravity devices), but it affects missiles launched by the ships.
You can play against the computer, or two players can play with one keyboard. There is also a Gravity Wars mode, where the two ships do not move, and the players repeatedly specify the direction and velocity of their missiles.

Space Commander 0.4
Space Commander is a game that aims to be similar to Elite and Privateer, with maybe a bit of Trade Wars thrown in. more>>
Space Commander is a game that aims to be similar to Elite and Privateer, with maybe a bit of Trade Wars thrown in.
The project is a remarkably functional space simulation with under 200 lines of code in the main file.
DEPENDENCIES
You need a recent version of Python and some support libraries. The game is currently being written using Python v 2.4.3 but it may work with newer or older versions with some minor tweaking. I intend to be using Python 2.5 and PyGame 1.8 shortly.
- Python 2.4.3
- PyGame 1.7
- Numeric 22.0
Basically you need a pretty complete Python kit. Most Linux distributions should have everything that you need and Windows / OSX users will be able to install it all with a small bit of effort.
To play the MIDI score in Linux you have to install and configure Timidity due to some old code in sdl-mixer which is a pre-dependency of PyGame. If the game crashes and
complains about midi, just comment out the MIDI line in spacecommander.py to disable it.
As to performance issues. I pass the buck. If it runs too slowly then get a faster computer, better graphics card, better operating system, whatever.
The idea of writing this in Python is to have a compromise between ultimate performance and the ability to understand and tinker around with the code.
You could try reducing the number of stars in the galaxy by editing bigbang.py also.
Feel free to re-write the game in hand optimized assembler, but you must send me a copy of your code per the LICENSE.
RUNNING THE GAME
Linux: ./spacecommander.py
KEYBOARD COMMANDS
ESC / Q: Quit the game
Left / Right: Yaw
Up / Down: Pitch
PgUp / PgDN: Roll
Enhancements:
- The main engine was completely rewritten and now supports flying a spaceship around a randomly generated galaxy. 2D rendering of objects using PyGame is supported.
- Mouse flight control is featured.

dopewars 1.5.12
dopewars is a game where you make a fortune dealing drugs on the streets of New York... more>>
dopewars is a game where you make a fortune dealing drugs on the streets of New York...
dopewars is a free Unix/Win32 rewrite of a game originally based on "Drug Wars" by John E. Dell. The idea of dopewars is to deal in drugs on the streets of New York, amassing a huge fortune and paying off the loan shark, while avoiding the ever-annoying police.
The Unix/Win32 rewrite, as well as featuring a so-called "antique" mode which closely follows the original, introduces new features such as the ability to take part in multi-player games. dopewars aims to be highly configurable, and what you cant change in the configuration files you can change by poking around in the source, which is freely available under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
dopewars runs on Unix (e.g. Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X) systems and Win32 (Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, ME, XP).
A framework for writing AI clients for dopewars with Perl (and a simple example client) is available courtesy of Dave Madison here. A version of dopewars which implements an improved AI, using a behaviour-based architecture, is also available.
A version of dopewars written in Python is in development by Mike Meyer. The aim of this version is to enable dopewars to be run easily on other platforms (such as MacOS and Windows) and to greatly simplify the development of computerised dopewars players.
The author would really appreciate assistance from keen Python programmers in getting the code to run cleanly on both Linux and Windows systems!
dopewars is also an IRC bot! To play a game, connect with any IRC client to the IRC server at irc.irc-hispano.org. Then start a game by entering the command
/msg WaRZ jugar or /msg BRoK jugar
...and then accept the DCC-CHAT. WaRZ is a space-trading themed version, while BRoK is a share-dealing version.
Enhancements:
- This release corrects a potential exploit against the Windows server, which was not fully patched by the 1.5.11 release.

GNOME War Pad 0.4.0
GNOME War Pad is VGA Planets client for GNOME 2 desktop platform. more>>
GNOME War Pad is VGA Planets client for GNOME 2 desktop platform. It aims to develop a full featured client, including scripting Python support.
VGA Planets is a play-by-email space conquest strategy game, it can be played by 11 players max. This game is being played by strategy fanatics all over the world for some years now, is very addictive and there are several servers on the Internet that host various kinds of this games.
Well, first of all this game is great, I thank Tim Wisseman for his creation, secondly its very cheap to register it (I think 5 USD) and if you dont want to register it, you still can play it with some limitations. Plus, because this game was developed for DOS, almost all clients existing this days are for DOS or Windows, and since Im a GNU/Linux freak, Im tired of playing VP with dosemu, its just too slow! :-)...so thats my itch, I wanna scratch it as ESR says.
Actually, there isnt a GNU/Linux client for VP that Im aware of, I know that PCCs author, Stefan Reuther from Germany, is porting his excellent client to GNU/Linux using the SDL library, this is great! but again, GNOME deserves to have its own client, so I started this project as an excuse to learn how to program for GNOME, and also to polish my C programming skills.
This software is Free Software, released under the GNU General Public License, you may copy, modify it and redistribute it under the conditions of this license.
Enhancements:
- this is a major milestone in this projects development because now the player can make some real actions into the game! no more viewing-only! Enjoy!

issPolicy 1.01
The issPolicy utility allows ISS RealSecure Network Sensor and policy files to be converted into a single HTML file. more>>
issPolicy is a free open-source utility for converting an ISS RealSecure Network Sensor and ISS Proventia Inline Appliance Policy to a static HTML file.
Written in Perl, issPolicy allows for granular parsing of ISS RSNS and ISS Proventia policies (also refer to the "support" section), and supports a wide variety of features (see "features" section) allowing the HTML generation to be customized based on different policy parameters.
Main features:
- issPolicy automatically detects whether the policy is a ISS RealSecure Network Sensor or ISS Proventia Inline Appliance policy and generates a static HTML file based on the policy type and its features.
- issPolicy extracts the following information from the ISS RealSecure Network Sensor Policy:
- Signatures Policy (Signature Name, Signature Description, Signature Status, Signature Priority, Configured Responses, Logging Type)
- IP Filters Policy (Filter Name, Filter Description, Filter Status, Protocol, Source Address, Source Port, Destination Address, Destination Port)
- Event Filters Policy (Filter Name, Filter Description, Filter Status, Filtered Event, Source Address, Source Port, Destination Address, Destination Port)
- issPolicy extracts the following information from the ISS Proventia Inline Appliance Policy:
- Signatures Policy (Signature Name, Signature Description, Signature Status, Signature Priority, Configured Responses, Logging Type, Drop Options, DynamicBlock Options)
- IP Filters Policy (Filter Name, Filter Description, Filter Status, Protocol, Source Address, Source Port, Destination Address, Destination Port)
- Event Filters Policy (Filter Name, Filter Description, Filter Status, Filtered Event, Source Address, Source Port, Destination Address, Destination Port)
- issPolicy contains various useful options allowing for a tailored HTML Policy file to be generated, based on one or more of the following criteria:
- Signature Policy Criteria:
- Whether signature is enabled or disabled
- Based on signature priority (High, Medium, or Low)
- Whether drop is enabled [only on ISS Proventia Inline Appliance Policies]
- Based on drop options (ConnectionWithReset, Connection, or Packet) [only on ISS Proventia Inline Appliance Policies]
- Whether dynamicblock is enabled [only on ISS Proventia Inline Appliance Policies]
- Based on dynamicblock options (IsolateTrojan, BlockWorm, BlockIntruder) [only on ISS Proventia Inline Appliance Policies]
- IP Filter Policy Criteria:
- Whether IP filter is enabled or disabled
- Event Filter Policy Criteria:
- Whether Event Filter is enabled or disabled
- issPolicy uses an "API" structured format, pushing the entire policy to hash arrays, allowing the possibility for other output methods to be developed (CSV, XML, etc...)

Grid Wars 2 is a space shooter arcade game.
Grid Wars2 is basically a PC version of the popular Xbox 360 game, Geometry Wars. Made by Mark Incitti, this release features less special effects compared to the original but also new controls to cater for players who do not own a dual analog joypad.
Your small ship sits in a one-screen grid and vectorized enemies spawn to attack. Use your any-directional gun to stay alive while you rake in points. Along the way a few power-ups will give you a hand, and theres always the emergency screen-clearing bomb you can unleash.
The hybrid option control allows a player to use both mouse and keyboard for ship movement as well as aiming their shots.
