Accountability Pal 0.1.1

Accountability Pal 0.1.1

Accountability Pal monitors your network and keeps track of who is using the Internet . more>>
Accountability Pal monitors your network and keeps track of who is using the Internet and what they are viewing, downloading, uploading, etc. It sends a email report of each users activity to the person/people you specify.
These days, more people are becoming addicted to viewing pornography on the Internet. Web sites offer free glimpses into enticing worlds of sexual immorality, and the anonymity that the Internet has to offer provides a way of indulging in those desires in the privacy of your own home without the worry of getting caught by their spouse or other loved ones. As a result, when the addiction is discovered by someone else, it often has such a devastating effect that families are destroyed as a result.
Thats where Accountability Pal comes in. Several of my friends have a passion for helping those with an addiction to porn, or they want to make sure their kids would not fall into that trap. Accountability Pal monitors your network and emails you, or others, reports of what everyone is viewing.
Enhancements:
- installer/accpal.nsi:
- Fixes to install all required dependencies on Windows.
- ChangeLog: Updated ChangeLog for version 0.1.1.

Incognito Live CD/USB i686

Incognito Live CD/USB i686

Incognito Live CD/USB CD provides software to use various Internet technologies while keeping the user anonymous. more>>
Incognito Live CD/USB CD provides software to use various Internet technologies while keeping the user anonymous. The project is based primarily on Tor while including supporting applications. The target use case is that of using a public computer, such as in a library, securely.

This CD may also be copied to a USB drive to provide persisted user settings. The intended user base are those who would like to perform standard Internet communications such as WWW, mail, IRC, IM, etc, while being confident that their anonymity is not compromised. Power users who want precise control over the application and network configuration may be disappointed.

There are full and tiny versions of the CD. The tiny version is intended to fit on small media and basically provides an anonymous web browser. The full version supports a variety of Internet applications.

The Gentoo Catalyst release build tool is used to build the CD. This tool is designed to make the CD easy to maintain. For an update of only Tor it takes a simple version bump and 30 minutes for the tiny CD, two hours for the full version. Human effort is minimal, Catalyst does most of the work. A full update of all software takes several hours to compile, but this is seldom done or needed and again generally requires little human effort. Adding or removing software to/from the CD is also generally trivial.

The following applications are kept up to date as soon as possible. Others may be updated sooner if a major security problem occurs (Firefox, etc.)

*Tor
*TorK
*Vidalia
*Privoxy
*Mixminion

Remaining applications, including the base system, will be updated on a roughly two month schedule.

Magellan Metasearch 1.4.2

Magellan Metasearch 1.4.2

Magellan Metasearch is a modular meta search engine. more>>
Magellan Metasearch is a modular meta search engine, enabling users to monitor as many search engines as they want.
Magellan Metasearch provides a complex query language with standard boolean operators, meta-operators (to search through pages metadata), and proximity operators.
This language enables users to perform far more complex queries than what common search engines currently support. It can be fed any custom sources, since its abstraction layer manages the search results and their meta tags in a uniform way.
In conjunction with the local process scheduler (such as "cron"), Magellan enables you to save your requests and replay them later automatically; new results are sent through email and RSS in realtime. Magellan also provides full anonymity through smart multi-proxy support.
Enhancements:
- This release enhances the automated parsing mechanism ; it also fixes a problem with small result sets that occasionally couldnt be extracted.
- Moreover, new virtual sources are automatically tested on creation / update to check their validity.

Freenet 0.7

Freenet 0.7

Freenet is free software which lets you publish and obtain information on the Internet without fear of censorship. more>>
Freenet software lets you publish and obtain information on the Internet without fear of censorship. To achieve this freedom, the network is entirely decentralized and publishers and consumers of information are anonymous. Without anonymity there can never be true freedom of speech, and without decentralization the network will be vulnerable to attack.
Communications by Freenet nodes are encrypted and are "routed-through" other nodes to make it extremely difficult to determine who is requesting the information and what its content is.
Users contribute to the network by giving bandwidth and a portion of their hard drive (called the "data store") for storing files. Unlike other peer-to-peer file sharing networks, Freenet does not let the user control what is stored in the data store. Instead, files are kept or deleted depending on how popular they are, with the least popular being discarded to make way for newer or more popular content. Files in the data store are encrypted to reduce the likelihood of prosecution by persons wishing to censor Freenet content.
The network can be used in a number of different ways and isnt restricted to just sharing files like other peer-to-peer networks. It acts more like an Internet within an Internet. For example Freenet can be used for:
Publishing websites or freesites
Communicating via message boards
Content distribution
Unlike many cutting edge projects, Freenet long ago escaped the science lab, it has been downloaded by over 2 million users since the project started, and it is used for the distribution of censored information all over the world including countries such as China and the Middle East.
Ideas and concepts pioneered in Freenet have had a significant impact in the academic world. Our 2000 paper "Freenet: A Distributed Anonymous Information Storage and Retrieval System" was the most cited computer science paper of 2000 according to Citeseer, and Freenet has also inspired papers in the worlds of law and philosophy. Ian Clarke, Freenets creator and project coordinator, was selected as one of the top 100 innovators of 2003 by MITs Technology Review magazine.
Enhancements:
- This release operates over UDP rather than TCP.
- It can transparently operate through firewalls.
- The core architecture and algorithm have been redesigned for simplicity and efficiency.
- A new and even simpler API allowing the rapid development of third party software that interacts with Freenet has been added.

Philtron 0.2.6

Philtron 0.2.6

Philtron provides a filtering HTTP proxy. more>>
Philtron provides a filtering HTTP proxy.
Philtron is a filtering HTTP proxy, meaning it rewrites the HTML of the web pages that pass through it in order to remove dangerous or annoying javascript-s, popups and improve the anonymity of the user.
It will be different from the existing filtering solutions (most famous example - Proxomitron, now discontinued) by avoiding hard-to-understand regular expressions as a way to filter HTML and will also be extremely user friendly - it is configured directly from the browser, on the fly as you browse. It is intended for the large audience, one wouldnt need programming background inorder to use the software.
Philtron is written in PHP, which means its cross-platform and its safe from buffer overflows and similar bugs, which can appear in low-level languages (c/c++). On the other hand the built-in regular expressions make implementing HTTP and parsing incoming and outgoing traffic very easy.
The proxy will fully implement HTTP/1.1 protocol, which means it can download web pages and their requisites (images, flash movies etc) fast and intelligent, even superior than some of the existing browsers (for example Internet Exlorer doesnt use pipelining - one of the advanced features of http/1.1 which greatly improves speed on image-heavy pages) and will help http/1.0 clients communicate faster with the http/1.1 servers (for example wget works faster through Philtron).
Enhancements:
- Directory structure reorganized.
- The code is now viewed as a library, which can be shared between HTTP-related projects.
- The beginning of the Phaeton multi-useragent project.
- The docs are now on the local server.
- Numerous small code improvements.
- [core/fetcher.inc.php] A SERIOUS bug prevented properly issuing multiple requests over a persistent connection.

CGIProxy 2.1 Beta 15

CGIProxy 2.1 Beta 15

CGIProxy is an anonymizing, filter-bypassing, HTTP/FTP proxy in a CGI script. more>>
This CGI script acts as an HTTP or FTP proxy. Through it, you can retrieve any resource that is accessible from the server it runs on. This is useful when your own access is limited, but you can reach a server that in turn can reach others that you cant.
In addition, the user is kept as anonymous as possible from any servers. Common uses include: anonymous proxies similar to The Anonymizer, other personal uses, VPN-like functionality, and others. Its very simple to install, and very configurable.
When an HTML resource is retrieved, its modified so that all links in it point back through the same proxy, including images, form submissions, and everything else. Once youre using the proxy, you can browse normally and (almost) forget its there.
Configurable options include text-only support (to save bandwidth), selective cookie and script removal, simple ad filtering, access restriction by server, custom encoding of target URLs and cookies, and more-- there are about 45 options so far.
CGIProxy can run under mod_perl unchanged. It requires Perl 5.004 or later; Perl 5.6.1 or later may be required in future releases.
Version restrictions:
- Anonymity MAY NOT BE PERFECT!! In particular, there may be some holes where JavaScript can slip through. (If you find these or any other anonymity holes, please tell me!) For best anonymity, turn JavaScript off in your browser.
- URLs generated by JavaScript or similar mechanisms wont be re-proxyed correctly. JavaScript in general may not work as expected, especially if it accesses the network.
- If you browse to many sites with cookies, CGIProxy may drop some, but I havent seen this happen yet.
- To save CPU time, I took some shortcuts with URL-handling. I doubt these will ever affect anything, but tell me if you have problems. (The shortcuts are listed in the source code.)
- I didnt follow the spec on HTTP proxies, and there are violations of the protocol. Actually, this whole concept is a violation of the proxy model, so Im not too worried. If any protocol violations cause you problems, please let me know.
- Only HTTP and FTP are supported so far.
Enhancements:
- "javascript:" URLs are now handled better.
- rot-13 encoding of cookies now works correctly.
- "about:blank" pages no longer generate a warning page.
- The URL field in the start page now gets focus automatically.
- A few other bugfixes and workarounds are included.

GSTP 0.5

GSTP 0.5

GSTP is a binary file transfer protocol that focuses on security and anonymity. more>>
GSTP is a binary file transfer protocol that focuses on security and anonymity. It tries to do right, where FTP does wrong, especially when it comes to firewall and user/password security.
To build, use ./configure, make and make install.
Server binary is server/gstp-server. Uses server/gstp.conf as config. In config, it says it uses server/users.txt for authorisation. users.txt uses native crypt() for passwords in the second field, but its ok to leave this field empty, in which case an empty password
will be accepted.
Client binary is client/gstp-client. Takes one argument, the host to connect to. Port is always 10042.
Enhancements:
- config.h.in, server/gstp.c, server/gstp_server.h, server/server.c: Added -v and moved ssl init to before setuid()-call

pyshaper 0.1.3

pyshaper 0.1.3

pyshaper is a simple yet very versatile dynamic bandwidth manager application for Linux platforms. more>>
pyshaper is a simple yet very versatile dynamic bandwidth manager application for Linux platforms.
Development of pyshaper was started by a number of factors:
Broadband internet access within New Zealand is abysmal, due to the local telco mafia controlling the local loop. You have to either put up with 128kb/s up/down (with 5-15GB monthly traffic), or suffer stupidly restrictive traffic caps (as little as 400MB/month) if you want faster connections
Existing traffic shaping software is either extremely limited or extremely complicated
I like to participate in a few different Peer2peer networks (eg Freenet, I2P etc - not your typical warez/MP3-type networks, but more privacy/anonymity networks), and I needed a simple way to stop these programs from blowing out my traffic
tc has a steep learning curve, and doesnt allow easy filtering on any criteria other than source/destination host/port.
I scoured the net, and came across the wondershaper script, as well as a prototype easy-shaper program called snitch. These programs helped me to start fathoming the occult mysteries of the arcane tc utility (part of the iproute2 suite). tc in its present state is very lacking in doco and examples, so these programs helped heaps.
So, as is an Open Source motto - If you cant find it, write it! - I realised I had to pull my finger out and write something myself.
Main features:
- pyshaper lets you set bandwidth minimum and maximum limits on several criteria:
-
- remote host/port, and local host/port (most shaper apps have this)
- pid of locally connected program
- username under which local program is running
- command line and arguments under which local program was launched
- country in which remmote peer resides
-
- With all these filtering criteria available, you can set up some pretty sophisticated filters.
-
- For instance, you can use the by program filtering to put bandwidth caps on peer2peer programs that often talk via several different protocols, to different ports (which evades most other traffic-shaping programs).
-
- Or, you can set individual inbound and/or outbound limits based on specific countries (or all countries other than your own).
-
- Configuration file syntax is pretty simple and straightforward. No arcane nutsnbolts TCP/IP grease-monkey bit-bashing knowledge needed. After a quick pass through the doco and examples, youll be building your shaping configuration within a few short minutes.
