Linux on iPod

Linux on iPod

Linux on iPod is an Linux based operating system for iPod. more>>
So far, we have successfully ported a customized uClinux (http://www.uclinux.org) kernel to the iPod, and written a simple user interface for it dubbed podzilla. Many additional Applications have been written, adding many capabilities not found in Apples firmware.

Our bootloader allows for you to choose between either iPodLinux or Apples firmware each time you turn on your iPod. iPodLinux is currently safe to install on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation iPods.

We are currently accepting Donations towards the purchase of a fourth generation iPod for us to test with. The fourth generation click wheel, mini, U2, Photo, and Shuffle iPods are NOT currently supported. For the latest information on 4th gen development, read the Fourth Generation Project Status.

last played is a small script that shows the last 5 files a mounted iPod shuffle played in shuffle mode.
Since you look at this page, you probably own an iPod shuffle. If you are like me, you like to upload new music on it, set it to shuffle mode and enjoy. Yeah!
Until there comes a song you really love or hate, but your trusty shuffle lacks a display, so there is no way to know (other than to memorize some lyrics and google for them) which song it was.
Luckily, there is an easier way: last played is a small python script that will put the last 5 (or whatever you tell it on command line) files you listened to on screen. Now you can simply delete songs you hate and give 5 stars to songs you love.
I recommend putting the last.py on the root directory of your shuffle. You can then start it from there using
python last.py
on the command line.
last played is released under the terms of the GNU GPL.
Version restrictions:
- Since the iPod shuffle recreates its shuffle sequence whenever the end of the current shuffle sequence is reached, the script might return wrong results now and then. I have not yet tested it thoroughly enough to confirm it, sorry. However, this should not happen too often.
Enhancements:
- This version now (probably) finds a shuffle under MS Windows, and detects if the sequential mode was set, showing the right files in this case.

goPod project allows you to remove the EU Volume limitation from 3rd and 4th generation iPods, and iPod minis.

goPod is a command line program that allows you to remove the EU Volume limitation on EU iPods.

We cant be held responsible for the use you make with this program or any damage it could cause to you iPod.

It is provided for information purpose only. Moreover, uncapping your iPod and using it is illegal in France.

Usage:

To apply the tweak, you may have to launch your iPod in HDD mode. To do so, in iTunes, select your iPod and click on the disk icon on the lower-right part of the iTunes window.

Launch goPod. Just click go to cap it/uncap your iPod. If it is not detected, clicking go will make goPod trying to detect it again.

JUST CLICK ON GO ONCE, it may take some time (5 seconds). I know its a bit "slow", but this is for compatibility reasons.

Once your iPod is capped/uncapped, you *may* have to restart it. To do so, press the menu button and the central button during 3 seconds if you are using a 4G iPod or the menu and play buttons if you have a 3G until you can see an apple.

This reboot should be automatic.

LibQtPod 0.3 RC1

LibQtPod 0.3 RC1

LibQtPod provides access to the contents of an Apple iPod. more>>
LibQtPod provides access to the contents of an Apple iPod. The code was formerly part of the kio ipodslave, but is now a separate Qt-based library.
LibQtPod library features reading and writing of the iTunesDB music database and provides access to hardware specific information like disc space statistics.
Main features:
- Reading/Writing the iTunesDB Music database
- access to hardware specific information like disc space statistics
Bugs/noticable problems:
- please report any problem you encounter with the software to the sourceforge project page at http://sourceforge.net/projects/kpod
- Since podcasts and smart playlists are unsupported at the moment youll lose them when synchronizing the database.
Installation:
1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `qmake to configure the package for your system and to create the Makefiles. qmake can be found in the bin directory of your Qt installation. You may have to add the directory to your PATH before running it.
2. Type `make to compile the package.
3. Type `make install to install the programs and any data files and documentation.
4. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean.
Whats New in 0.2 Stable Release:
- This version contains lots of fixes and code cleanups.
- On the functional side, this release adds playlist sorting by setting one of the predefined sort order criteria and a new track(list) search implementation with user definable predicates.
- Browsing while on the go was speeded up by writing out type 52 MHODs; this may also result in smaller gaps between songs.
Whats New in 0.3 RC1 Development Release:
- Documentation fixes
- added trackNumber to ITunesDB::findTrack and TrackPredicated::ByFullInfo
- changed ITunesDB::findFirstTrackBy() and ::getTracksBy() to use a reference instead of a pointer to the predicate
- implemented Smart Playlists
- fixed DBID generation
- fixed ordering artists with a "The" in the name
- create backup copies for all DB files when writing
- implemented ipod initialization for pristine devices
- lots of small fixes - code + design
- builds with gcc-4.1

Monopod 0.6

Monopod 0.6

Monopod is a simple Podcast client. more>>
Monopod project is a simple Podcast client.

Monopod is for people who want to select a few channels, come back later, and find that the Podcast MP3s turn up on the hard disk.

Since falling in love with the little stick of goodness that is the iPod Shuffle, I decided to get into this podcast thing. You know, where MP3s are attached to RSS feeds and downloaded to your computer.

Unfortunately, none of the obvious Linux podcast software really fitted my needs. Either too lo-fi (bashpodder) or just completely scary (iPodder). So I started to write my own.

Monopod is a simple Podcast client.

Its for people who want to select a few channels, come back later, and find the the Podcast MP3s turn up on the hard disk. People like me.

The user interface will get better in the future, but for now its based on an icon in the system notification area. Right-click it, select "Subscriptions", and off you go.

Downloaded files will turn up in the "Monopod" directory in your home directory. Theres a directory per channel, and an M3U file in there with a playlist for each channel.

KAddressBook to iPod Synchronisation 1.0

KAddressBook to iPod Synchronisation 1.0

KAddressBook to iPod Synchronisation lets you synchronise your KAddressBook to your iPod by executing this simple script. more>>
KAddressBook to iPod Synchronisation lets you synchronise your KAddressBook to your iPod by executing this simple script.

The script makes a few modifications to the addressbook file to make it readable by the iPod.

Amarok recently released the ability to synchonise music to your iPod, so I was finally able to stop using iTunes to transfer my songs. However I was still stuck using the Mac to sync my addressbook.

Well not anymore, after some quick poking around, and a simple script, I am now able to transfer my complete KDE addressbook (including photo), with a simple command line.

Just mount the ipod, and execute the script, passing the ipod’s root directory as a parameter. That’s it! The script loads your KDE addressbook, makes a few simple modifications the iPod requires, and copies it across.

Deleting files from iPod is not supported, yet.

As kuickPod is based on gnuPod, make sure youve this installed, and your iPod is initialized by gnuPod.

SyncPOD 0.68

SyncPOD 0.68

SyncPOD is a program that syncs a local folder with your iPod. more>>
This script syncs a local directory with your iPod. If the directory is larger than the space on your iPod you can sync this larger directory with a master playlist. As alternative you can sync just a bunch of playlists.
By typing "SyncPOD" the sync is done ... nothing more nothing less. Configuration is done with a config file ("~/.ipod/config").
You need a FAT32 iPod, Linux with IEEE1394 harddisks support (*BSD may work too) and Perl5 to do that.
Everything is done in Perl, not just a C wrapper. Nothing is OS specific. The iPod needs to be mounted somewhere, if you can manage that, you have won...
Version restrictions:
- This is a one-way sync to your iPod, which means files are deleted from the drive if they dont exist in the syncdir or playlists.
- Your MP3 files have to be uniquely named, even if they are in subdirectories.
- Some characters in the MP3 names are not possible: "?" is one of them. (FAT32 problem ?)
- The master playlist has to point to files within your SYNCDIR.
