Skipole Network Monitor project is a simple network monitor with built in web server.

It allows the user to input host IP addresses, it then pings these hosts every five minutes and displays their status via a built-in web server, on port 8000.

So calling http://your_pc_address:8000 will display pages showing green, yellow or red host or group symbols.

Each host is pinged four times every five minutes, and symbols are displayed as:

green : if three or four pings are successfull
yellow : if only one or two are successfull
red : if all four fail

As well as hosts, group symbols are displayed, and can be opened to show hosts, or sub-groups nested within. The operator can create groups, and sub-groups via the gui.

The Network Security Monitor Daemon is a lightweight network security monitor for TCP/IP LANs. It will capture certain network events and record them in a relational database. The recorded data is available for analysis through a CGI-based interface.

You can run test version with ./Monitord, just to see how it works. Production version should be run in background, v.g. with nohup ./monitord &. Both versions will accept a device name as a parameter (default: eth0). You can send them SIGHUP at any time to print some stats. If you send SIGTERM, SIGQUIT or SIGINT, all threads will end gracefully.

Whats New in This Release:

· Linux Kernel with "packet sockets" and "socket filtering" support.
· GNU C Library 2 (glibc2) with LinuxThreads support. (integrated in most recent versions).
· Full MySQL, including headers and libmysqlclient_r.
· GNU C Compiler (gcc).
· GNU Make (make).
· Perl (perl).
· Wget (wget).

Whats New in This Release:

· Added chmod 4755 ... in Makefile
· Root should run make now, but not the daemon ;-)
· The daemon will drop root privileges as soon as possible
· (after creating the raw socket with an attached linux socket
· filter and putting the interface in promiscuous mode)
· No threads run with root privileges so its much safer
· (specially the new server thread which reads remote user input)
· Added stats thread
· To calculate/mantain exponential averages
· Added server thread
· It accepts HTTP requests and serves stats in XML

Network Equipment Performance Monitor project monitors and reports uptime, critical events and their predecessors, bytes-served rates, access rates and error rates for network node equipment.

Hardware and software elements within the nodes are tracked and reported separately to make possible rapid fault isolation. It is a very general, highly configurable, two-part software system that captures and analyzes logged performance data from IP-networked equipment and reports it via email and Web pages.

Current conditions and history from systems based on Windows NT/2000, Unix, and Unix-style operating systems can be tracked and reported.

Most major server, switch and router systems can be monitored, without running agents on the target systems. NEPM itself is system-independent and can be hosted on either a Unix or Win NT system or a combination of these with equal ease.

Whats New in This Release:

MANAGEMENT CONSOLES & REPORTS

· It is now possible to fully manage NEPM from a single browser session: The two separate management consoles have been unified into a single one.
· The reports are now linked and viewed in the same browser session that manages the rest of NEPM, further simplyfying and streamlining the user interface.
· Reports are now served from the same internal web server as the Management Console eliminating the need for an additional web server to serve the reports.
· The Management Console is now always instantly available for faster, easier access. It installs and runs automatically as a service in Windows or as a daemon in Linux/UNIX.
· The user interface has been further simplified by turning off secondary, less important, sections of configuration information, making it possible for the user to focus on the primary parameters. These hidden sections display with a mouse click.
· The choice of Courier directory for transfering captured log files between Courier and Builder is fixed and no longer configurable in the Mangement Console. It can still be configured directly in the control files themselves for use from the command line.
· The Managment Console now *requires* Courier control files to have a .ccf extension and Builder control files to have a .bcf extension. Control files with any extension (or none) may still be used from the command line and a text editor.
· Restored . to directory names in the data path now that reports no longer might be served by IIS, undoing this change made in release 2.0

INSTALL

· Create a Windows Favorite for NEPMLE on install.
· NEPM now is setup and started as an automatic service during install for continous availability.
· Improved the directory structure and scripting for more robust install and uninstall on Windows.
· Fixed a problem that was preventing the TargSys components from installing automatically in some cases.

Network Traffic Analyser provides a script-driven network traffic monitor.

Network Traffic Analyser (formerly known as sniffer) is designed to be an extremely powerful, configurable, and versatile tool for monitoring network traffic.

It can be used as a plain sniffer, as a tool for accounting, dynamic firewall updates, and many more things.

It features scripting support and an event-driven architecture.

The idea behind this project is to create a powerful tool for playing around with network traffic. The basic concepts are simplicity and flexibility. Instead of building tool that does something specific (and does a good job at it), were trying to build a tool that will be able to do whatever you want it to do (and still be good at it :).

To put it very simply, you write a script that will be invoked for every packet that passes through your network. You write your scripts in a Tcl, fully blown, interpreted programming language. That fact guaranties that you wont be constrained in your creativity.

Network Security Toolkit is a bootable ISO live CD and its based on Fedora Core 2.

The toolkit was designed to provide easy access to best-of-breed Open Source Network Security Applications and should run on most x86 platforms.

The main intent of developing this toolkit was to provide the network security administrator with a comprehensive set of Open Source Network Security Tools. The majority of tools published in the article: Top 75 Security Tools by insecure.org are available in the toolkit.

What we find rather fascinating with NST is that we can transform most x86 systems (Pentium II and above) into a system designed for network traffic analysis, intrusion detection, network packet generation, wireless network monitoring, a virtual system service server, or a sophisticated network/host scanner.

This can all be done without disturbing or modifying any underlying sub-system disk. NST can be up and running on a typical x86 notebook in less than a minute by just rebooting with the NST ISO CD. The notebooks hard disk will not be altered in any way.

NST also makes an excellent tool to help one with all sorts of crash recovery troubleshooting scenarios and situations.

Whats New in This Release:

· We are pleased to announce the latest NST release: v1.5.0. This release is based on Fedora Core 5 using the Linux kernel 2.6.18. Here are some of the highlights for this release: the NST Web User Interface (WUI), has been greatly enhanced and cleaned up; extensive additions to managing and analyzing network packet captures; the ability to setup and manage printers; the ability to easily mount many different supported file system types; the ability to manage the NST as a file server (both NFS and CIFS); the addition of the Inprotect package (a Nessus manager); the addition of the Zabbix package (another network resource monitoring tool - similar to Nagios)....
