Adobe Flex 2.0 Beta1
Flex 2.0 delivers an integrated set of tools and technology for build and deploy scalable Rich Internet Applications. more>>
Flex 2.0 delivers an integrated set of tools and technology enabling developers to build and deploy scalable Rich Internet Applications.
Flex provides a modern, standards-based language supporting common design patterns and includes a client runtime, programming model, development environment, and advanced data
Main features:
- Flex Framework 2.0
- Flex Builder 2.0
- Flex Enterprise Services 2.0
- Flex Charting Components 2.0
- ActionScript 3.0
- Flash Player 8.5.
Enhancements:
- The Flex 2.0 product line enables developers to build rich, engaging web-based applications based on the ubiquitous Macromedia Flash runtime from Adobe and includes a complete solution for building Rich Internet Applications. Macromedia (now Adobe) originally coined the phrase Rich Internet Application (RIA) to describe a trend in the web development community toward building more engaging web experiences using Flash and HTML.
- The first generation of RIAs combined graphic-rich user interface controls that reduced or eliminated page refreshes. They have since evolved into sophisticated desktop-like applications that integrate rich data visualization components, such as data grids and graphical charts, multimedia audio and video, collaborative features like whiteboards and cobrowsing experiences, and real-time data push. As the complexity of such applications increased, so too did the cost of building and maintaining RIAs. Adobe responded to this need with Flex, which has become the industry-leading RIA development solution.
- Developers are a major focus of the Flex 2.0 release. To ensure that we take the product in a direction that meets your needs, the Flex team is excited to announce the public beta release of the Flex 2.0 product line. If youre not already familiar with Flex 2.0, you can find a complete overview in the David Wadhwanis article, Flex 2.0: Enabling the Next Generation of Rich Internet Applications. Read on to learn more about changes since the release of Flex 2.0 alpha 1.
- The beta 1 release includes updated installers for Flex Builder 2.0, Flex Charting 2.0, Flex Framework 2.0, and Flash Player 8.5. In addition, Flex Enterprise Services 2.0 is now available for the first time. The following outlines what is new in the Flex 2.0 beta 1 release.

gimpShop 2.2.11
gimpShop is a fork of GIMP which changes the layout of the user interface to resemble Adobe Photoshop. more>>
Version 2.2 is an update on GIMP 2.0. GIMP 2.2 is fully backward compatible to GIMP 2.0. Plug-ins and scripts written for GIMP 2.0 will continue to work and dont need to be changed nor recompiled to be used with GIMP 2.2. We do however hope that plug-in authors will update their plug-ins for GIMP 2.2 and adapt the GUI changes we did with this version.
GIMP 2.2 replaces GIMP 2.0. It is advised that you uninstall GIMP 2.0 before installing GIMP 2.2. If you want to keep GIMP 2.0 installed in parallel to GIMP 2.2, you have to choose a separate prefix which is not in your default library search path.
This code has already seen quite some testing but a lot has changed since version GIMP 2.0 and we could very well have introduced new bugs. If you find any , make sure you report them at bugzilla.gnome.org (after checking that it isnt reported already).
The GIMP 2.2 API is guaranteed to be backward compatible (source and binary) with the GIMP 2.0 API. If you find that your 2.0 plug-in break when used with the GIMP 2.2 libraries, or if you cannot compile a GIMP 2.0 plug-in against the GIMP 2.2 header files, please report that as a
bug.
Enhancements:
- Keeping up with GIMP releases.
AFPL Ghostscript 8.60
AFPL Ghostscript is an interpreter for the PostScript (TM) language. more>>
Since applications tend to prepare pages for printing in a high-level format such as PostScript, most Unix users with low-level bitmap printers, such as inkjets, use GhostScript as part of the printing process.
In addition, Ghostscript is capable of converting PostScript files, functionality comparable to Adobe Acrobat Distiller, but on the command line. In addition, Ghostscript is used for file import and viewing by a great many other applications, including xv, ImageMagick, gimp, and xdvi.
Several GUI wrappers for viewing PostScript and PDF files exist, including GSview, ghostview, gv, ggv, and kghostview. This is far from a comprehensive list.
Main features:
- An interpreter for the PostScript (TM) language, with the ability to convert PostScript language files to many raster formats, view them on displays, and print them on printers that dont have PostScript language capability built in;
- An interpreter for Portable Document Format (PDF) files, with the same abilities;
- The ability to convert PostScript language files to PDF (with some limitations) and vice versa; and
- A set of C procedures (the Ghostscript library) that implement the graphics capabilities that appear as primitive operations in the PostScript language.

IIPImage 1.0 (IIPMooViewer)
IIPimage is a client/server system for viewing and navigating within extremely high resolution remote images. more>>
The server is written in C++ as a plugin for Apache, Lighttpd, or any other FCGI-enabled Web server. Images are viewed via a Java client or an Ajax Javascript client. The system can also handle 3D image sequences, panoramas, or multispectral images.
In order for the system to be as efficient as possible, the images are stored in the multi-resolution TIFF tiled pyramidal format. This allows the server to extract regions of the full image at different resolutions very quickly with little processing overhead. Image of several gigapixels in size can be stored on a central server and viewed by many different users without the need to download large amounts of data.
Main features:
- Fast lightweight Fast CGI server module that can be embedded in most web servers (Apache, Lighttpd, MyServer etc)
- Several clients available - java applet, javascript etc
- Instant dynamic generation of JPEG overviews or details at any resolution
- Allows easy viewing of extremely large images (gigapixel size) with no significant memory requirements
- Standard TIFF-based image format that can be read by many image processing tools (Photoshop, GIMP, VIPS etc)
- 16 bits per channel image handling
- Greyscale, sRGB and CIE L*a*b* colour spaces
- Panoramic 3D object image sequences
- Secure image distribution: only JPEG-compressed views of the image are sent to the client. The full-resolution image does not need to be accessible
- Example uses: high resolution museum images, geographical information systems, medical imaging etc.
SuperShow 2.0
SuperShow is a project which allows you to create, from a PDF file and an audio/video file, slideshows with syncronized audio. more>>
Imagine this scenario: you do a conference, with a set of slides created with Impress, PowerPoint or other tool. Someone (maybe you) recorded it as only audio, to make it available in the net. Unfortunately it lacks the slides, so people who download the audio will have to get them separately and try to imagine when to change to the next picture.
With a video recording theres the problem that, usually, the slides are quite unreadable, unless high bitrates are used and the camera set near the screen.
Here is where SuperShow comes. With it you can take your slides (exported to PDF) and your audio/video recording, and mix them in a single, small size, Adobe Flash file, which can be played from the net or downloaded to be seen locally. SuperShow allows you to easily sincronize the audio and the slide transitions and insulates you from the complexity of creating Flash files from Linux with SWFtools (ok, its not so complex, but requires you to use the keyboard :) .

PECoMaTo 0.0.13
PECoMaTo stands for Picture-Embedded COntents MAnipulation TOol. more>>
PECoMaTo project is basically designed to display any kind of information embedded in picture files, as well as checking, filtering, extracting, removing, adding and fixing such information. In other words, its a metadata processor.
It supports the following file formats: JPEG/JFIF, Adobe PSD and FFO, raw IPTC. And it knows about the following metadata formats: JFIF, IPTC, Exif, Adobe and Fotostation. More file and metadata formats might be supported later (TIFF, etc.).
It aims to be portable (see supported platforms below). One of its main goals is to check the validity of parsed metadata as well as optionally check the strict compliance to official standards. On another hand, it aims to provide ways of fixing broken or not compliant chunks as well as providing general basic functions to manipulate the metadata.
Graphics::ColorObject 0.5.0
Graphics::ColorObject can convert between color spaces. more>>
SYNOPSIS
use Graphics::ColorObject;
# rgb to hsv
$color = Graphics::ColorObject->new_RGB([$r, $g, $b]);
($h, $s, $v) = @{ $color->as_HSV() };
# one rgb space to another (NTSC to PAL)
$color = Graphics::ColorObject->new_RGB([$r, $g, $b], space=>NTSC);
($r, $g, $b) = @{ $color->as_RGB(space=>PAL) };
ABSTRACT
Use this module to convert between all the common color spaces. As a pure Perl module, it is not very fast, and so it you want to convert entire images quickly, this is probably not what you want. The emphasis is on completeness and accurate conversion.
Supported color spaces are: RGB (including sRGB, Apple, Adobe, CIE Rec 601, CIE Rec 709, CIE ITU, and about a dozen other RGB spaces), CMY, CMYK, HSL, HSV, XYZ, xyY, Lab, LCHab, Luv, LCHuv, YPbPr, YCbCr, YUV, YIQ, PhotoYCC.
Conversion between different RGB working spaces, and between different white-points, is fully supported.
For any supported color space XXX, there is one constructor new_XXX that creates a color using data in that color space, and one method as_XXX that returns the current color as expressed in that color space. For example, for RGB there is new_RGB and as_RGB. The color data is always passed as an array reference to a three-element array (four-element in the case of CMYK). Thus, to convert from RGB to HSL, you can use:
$color = Graphics::ColorObject->new_RGB([$r, $g, $b]);
($h, $s, $l) = @{ $color->as_HSL() };
The constructor can always take a hash of optional arguments in addition to the color value, namely the working RGB space and the white point. For example:
$color = Graphics::ColorObject->new_RGB([$r, $g, $b], space=>Adobe, white_point=>D65);
For a list of all supported color spaces, call Graphics::ColorObject->list_colorspaces(). For a list of all RGB working spaces and of all white points that this module supports, call Graphics::ColorObject->list_rgb_spaces() and Graphics::ColorObject->list_white_points().
If not specified, the working RGB space will be sRGB. Many non-RGB conversions also rely on an implicit RGB space, and passing an RGB space as an option (either to the constructor or later) will have an effect on the values.
