I had tried to implement support for the newer packet interface at device level (supported since Linux kernel versions 2.2, see cite{packet(7)}), but I found that it lost packets in high load situations. Patches against @command{net--acct} are available if you request.

A patch for Net Accounting Daemon which adds support for logging network traffic on a MySQL Server.
You can control nacctd with so called signals. Here is what the signals do (one might call this abuse of signals:
SIGINT ends daemon
SIGTERM ends daemon
SIGUSR1 increases debugging level
SIGUSR2 turns off debugging
SIGWINCH prints some kind of version id
SIGTSTP disables writing to file
SIGCONT enables writing to file
The last two (TSTP and CONT) are useful for an automated archival of the logfiles without terminating the daemon. Just send a SIGTSTP before moving the logfile and send a SIGCONT when you are done.
Enhancements:
- modifyed process.c netacct.h
- Moved build process to use configure script ala GNU recommendations
- now all compile options are available as configure options except HASHSIZE which i think is for advanced users only

Audio Daemon 0.99

Audio Daemon 0.99

Audio Daemon is a perl module to daemonize various players and support a single UDP interace for different players. more>>
Audio Daemon is a perl module to daemonize various players and support a single UDP interace for different players. Currently you can set up a server for MPG123, Xmms and an icecast stream (using libshout).

Audio::Daemon is made of two parts, the client and server.

The Client (Audio::Daemon::Client) remains the same across the board no matter what server you are communicating with, with a few exceptions noted in the pods.

The Server currently can be configured to be MPG123, Xmms or an Icecast (libshout) stream. Neither the Client nor the Servers need to be run as root and I strongly advise against it.

Audio::Daemon::MPG132:
Requires Audio::Play::MPG123 an optionally Audio::Mixer for volume control. It automatically spawns mpg123 in the background so there is no need to prestart it.

Audio::Daemon::Xmms:
Requires the Xmms and MP3::Info perl module and xmms installed. Id suggest getting the latest version of the Xmms perl module. It uses the volume and random feature built into xmms and if it doesnt find an xmms running it will try to spawn its own copy. Bear in mind that
xmms MUST HAVE an X display to export to, and that xmms must be running as the same user Audio::Daemon::Xmms is.

Audio::Daemon::Shout:
This wasnt easy to do. It requires MP3::Info and libshout to be installed (http://developer.icecast.org/libshout/) as well as a functioning icecast server. The timing here is pretty critical so I recomend being careful not to be polling the server too much. Be sure to read the icecast docs as Im still confused on how I got this part to work.

DConnect Daemon 1.1.0

DConnect Daemon is a daemon that acts as a Direct Connect hub. more>>
DConnect Daemon is a Direct Connects hub working as daemon. It works currently under linux and FreeBSD, but we want to make them work on all Unixes (and under Windows).
DConnect Daemon works as a daemon in background and does not require any Xwindow system. Everything should work without any maintenance, but with possible runtime manipulations.
Main features:
- written in pure C
- utilizes threads - allow to work faster on SMP mashines
- good and strict protocol implementation - as far as we know it...
- access limitation through libwrap
- telnet administration console and traditional with DC client
- flexible configuration
Enhancements:
- Because full support for syslog is included, the old way of logging to files was removed.
- Switch to syslog-ng is recommended as it will make your logs cleaner.
- Silent mode is now switched on so it is impossible to redirect users who should not have access to the service you provide.

Useful Traffic Accounting Dragon 0.4

Useful Traffic Accounting Dragon 0.4

Useful Traffic Accounting Dragon is a traffic accounter that actually gives useful information about traffic. more>>
Useful Traffic Accounting Dragon is a traffic accounter that actually gives useful information about traffic instead of stupidly counting incoming/outgoing packets.
Dragon accounts traffic by user, program and timestamp and puts this information into useful correlation.
Dragon is implemented as a Perl script for the backend, using /etc/passwd to automatically get information about user accounts, /proc/net/ to get information about open connections and /proc/ to get information about running processes and which processes currently use which network connection.
All this information can be combined so you can actually see what user caused which traffic using what program and when it happened.
All this information is acquired automatically so the minimal configuration necessary is to tell dragon where it can find its MySQL database.
Enhancements:
Features:
- cleanup on CTRL-C
- add patch for Linux Kernel 2.6.17.7
- for now, graphs are disabled in the webfrontend
- webfrontend has now Total, User and Program tabs
Bugfixes:
- forgot to close a filedescriptor fixed
- use leading zeroes on port numbers in messages about connections that no longer exist
- really fix wait for next minute

LIRC Client Daemon project is an attempt to solve certain problems in LIRC.

The LIRC Client Daemon is a per-user daemon that sits between the LIRC daemon (from the Linux InfraRed Control project) and any other programs that use LIRC.

It ships with a replacement library for LIRCs liblirc_client, which connects to lirccd instead of lircd. This primarily helps solve the synchronization present in the standard liblirc_client, and also empowers the user with a much more flexible configuration file format.

Wiaflos Accounting 0.0.5

Wiaflos Accounting 0.0.5

Wiaflos Accounting is an attempt to create a multi-platform server-client based accounting system. more>>
Wiaflos Accounting project is an attempt to create a multi-platform server-client based accounting system.
The goal is to have a central accounting engine which can either run on a dedicated server or on the same PC as the client interface. The accounting engine will provide a full SOAP API for easy writing of GUI/Web interfaces or tieing into inhouse systems. Seeing as the accounting engine is written in Perl and makes use of a database abstraction layer, the engine should run on nearly any operating system and use nearly any database system supported by Perl and the target OS.
We want this package to be of equal use to the one-man-show as a full accounting package running on a single PC aswell as to large multi-national corporate entities with dedicated accounting servers using the package as a fast stable accounting function, solution or full package.
Main features:
Platform independant
- Wiaflos Accountings core and engine is written in Perl. Perl is an interpreted programming language capable of running on many different platforms including Unix/Linux, Mac, Windows, BSD and many more.
Database independent
- Wiaflos Accountings database interface utilizes the Perl DBI module. This module allows Wiaflos Accounting to access multiple database types transparently, allowing you to utilize the database of your choice, be it MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle, Informix, Sybase or ODBC (or basically anything else).
Folding database transactions
- All modules use database transactions to ensure that if an error occurs everything is rolled back to a safe state. When different modules are integrated to provide functionality like invoicing and purchasing, there are sometimes quite a number of transactions involved which both update, insert and query data. The Wiaflos Accounting database engine automatically merges all transactions during a specific operation into one, this ensures a clean rollback should anything go wrong.
SOAP API (WebServices)
- The interface to Wiaflos Accounting is based on SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol). The SOAP protocol is a critical communication protocol on the Internet due in large part to the fact that it has become native to so many development platforms, this allows Wiaflos Accounting the maximum benefit of integration and interpolation with other software packages. The SOAP API supports communication over HTTP and HTTPS and includes a full user-based access control system, allowing only certain users access to certain API functions.
Persistent sessions
- Not only does Wiaflos Accounting support SOAP, but it supports persistent SOAP sessions. Authentication is only required once, after that a session cookie is handed to the client application which can then be used in future function calls to authenticate.
Enhancements:
- This version includes support for statements and "balance brought forward" when requesting GL entries.
- Some bugfixes and feature enhancements were made.

Music daemon 0.0.4

Music daemon 0.0.4

Music daemon(musicd) is a music playing server that supports multiple formats through plugins and multiple playlists. more>>
Music daemon(musicd) is a music playing server that supports multiple formats through plugins and multiple playlists. Musicd supports plugins to enable playing of different audioformats. The plugin-api is quite similiar to one that the popular XMMS uses. Currently XMMS-plugins are not directly supported, but if I find the time, Ill make a meta-plugin to support them.
The first reason to make the player a server is to make it possible to use many different frontends and even at the same time. You can use a GUI if you like them, but anything it can do, can be done from commandline too.
The second reason is to make sure that the GUI or X does not crash the whole player. I have found that many software with a GUI tend to crash. With musicd the player is unaffected by this and you can start the interface again.
Main features:
- Musicd has its own simple text-based protocol for player-frontend communication.
- Support for unlimited number of playlists, songs per playlist and frontends connect at the same time
- Support for both IPv4 and IPv6. Also UNIX-sockets are supported for local connections.
- Currently supported audioformats: mp3 (ffmpeg), ogg vorbis (vorbisfile) and mods (libmikmod).
- Support for OSS and Solaris ouput.
- Musicd has been tested on x86 Linux and Solaris 9.
Enhancements:
- Calling play while already playing shouldnt cause deadlocks anymore
- Load command on a file that has too long line as the last line locked up the daemon, this shouldnt happen anymore
- Invalid id3tags shouldnt give random data anymore
- Invalid filenames shouldnt crash the player anymore

HCSWs Ident Daemon 1.1

HCSWs Ident Daemon provides a well-written daemon for faking ident replies to IRC servers. more>>
HCSWs Ident Daemon provides a well-written daemon for faking ident replies to IRC servers.

This identd is essentially just a quick and small daemon to fake ident replies. It is primarily intended to provide random ident fields on IRC.

As of 1.1, hsidentd now natively supports IPv6. It will try listening on the same port as it does on IPv4, or 113 by default. To disable IPv6 support, edit the file hsidentd.h and comment out the line that looks like this:

#define HAVE_IPV6

Building:

Just type make

You may have to uncomment the appropriate line at the top of the Makefile.

Installing:

Just copy the executable to somewhere in the filesystem. Or dont. See if I
care.

Running:

As root, just run the hsidentd executable like so:

hsidentd

or

hsidentd

Pathfinder PKI Daemon 0.1.0

Pathfinder PKI Daemon is designed to provide a mechanism for any program to perform RFC3280-compliant path validation... more>>
Pathfinder PKI Daemon is designed to provide a mechanism for any program to perform RFC3280-compliant path validation of X509 certificates, even when some of the intermediate certificates are not present on the local machine. The project will automatically download any such certificates (and their CRLs) from the Internet as needed using the AIA and CRL distribution point extensions of the certificates it is processing.

By default, the Pathfinder daemon listens on the D-Bus system bus for incoming requests. In this way, any project can easily gain the ability to reliably validate the trustworthiness of X509 certificates. For the convenience of those using OpenSSL or NSS (Netscape Security Services), two libraries containing a callback suitable for use with an SSL connection are provided with the main Pathfinder distribution.

If you are looking for a demonstration of Pathfinder, you may be interested in Pathviewer, which provides a graphical view of path validation via a GTK+ interface.
