Supervisor 3.01a

Supervisor 3.01a

Supervisor is a client/server system that allows its users to control a number of processes on UNIX-like operating systems. more>>
Supervisor is a client/server system that allows its users to control a number of processes on UNIX-like operating systems. It was inspired by the following:
- It is often inconvenient to need to write "rc.d" scripts for every single process instance. rc.d scripts are a great lowest-common-denominator form of process initialization/autostart/management, but they can be painful to write and maintain. Additionally, rc.d scripts cannot automatically restart a crashed process and many programs do not restart themselves properly on a crash. Supervisord starts processes as its subprocesses, and can be configured to automatically restart them on a crash. It can also automatically be configured to start processes on its own invocation.
- Its often difficult to get accurate up/down status on processes on UNIX. Pidfiles often lie. Supervisord starts processes as subprocesses, so it always knows the true up/down status of its children and can be queried conveniently for this data.
- Users who need to control process state often need only to do that. They dont want or need full-blown shell access to the machine on which the processes are running. Supervisorctl allows a very limited form of access to the machine, essentially allowing users to see process status and control supervisord-controlled subprocesses by emitting "stop", "start", and "restart" commands from a simple shell or web UI.
- Users often need to control processes on many machines. Supervisor provides a simple, secure, and uniform mechanism for interactively and automatically controlling processes on groups of machines.
- Processes which listen on "low" TCP ports often need to be started and restarted as the root user (a UNIX misfeature). Its usually the case that its perfectly fine to allow "normal" people to stop or restart such a process, but providing them with shell access is often impractical, and providing them with root access or sudo access is often impossible. Its also (rightly) difficult to explain to them why this problem exists. If supervisord is started as root, it is possible to allow "normal" users to control such processes without needing to explain the intricacies of the problem to them.
- Processes often need to be started and stopped in groups, sometimes even in a "priority order". Its often difficult to explain to people how to do this. Supervisor allows you to assign priorities to processes, and allows user to emit commands via the supervisorctl client like "start all", and "restart all", which starts them in the preassigned priority order. Additionally, processes can be grouped into "process groups" and a set of logically related processes can be stopped and started as a unit.

Adaptive Quality of Service Architecture 0.6.1

Adaptive Quality of Service Architecture 0.6.1

Adaptive Quality of Service Architecture is an open architecture for the provisioning of adaptive Quality of Service functions. more>>
Adaptive Quality of Service Architecture (AQuoSA) is an open architecture for the provisioning of adaptive Quality of Service functionality into the Linux kernel. The project features a flexible, portable, lightweight and open architecture for supporting soft real-time applications with facilities related to timing guarantees and QoS, on the top of a general-purpose operating system as Linux.
At the core of the architecture there is an adaptive resource reservation layer that is capable of dynamically adapting the CPU allocation for QoS aware applications based on their run-time requirements.
Timing guarantees are provided through an in-kernel reservation based process scheduler, whose services are exposed to applications through a well-designed API.
A supervisor performs admission control, so that admitting into the system new applications with timing guarantees does not affect the timing guarantees of already admitted applications. Also, it takes care of guaranteeing appropriate security policies in the assignment of timing guarantees to users and user groups, as configured by the system administrator.
A feedback-based QoS control layer may be optionally used by applications who want to keep their timing guarantees by using a CPU allocation that is continuously adapted according to their actual needs. This leaverages the programmer, within certain limits, to hard-code any particular reservation amount within the application, because the best allocation is found out automatically at run-time. Also, this enhances the possibilities for the system to host additional QoS controlled applications. The available control algorithms are well founded on formal scheduling models and control theoretical results.
Enhancements:
- This release introduces a couple of flags useful when creating servers. If QOS_F_PERSISTENT is enabled, a server is allowed to exist beyond detach of the last task. If QOS_F_SOFT is enabled, a server tasks are scheduled by the Linux default scheduler/policy, when outside of the server reservation.
- Also, various stability issues in destroying servers have been fixed, also thanks to a new release of the generic scheduler patch for the Linux kernel (gs-2.2).

DAMASCAS 0.2

DAMASCAS 0.2

DAMASCAS is a tool to manage team. more>>
DAMASCAS is a tool to manage team. DAMASCAS project helps team leader in allocating tasks to team members.

A person is skilled in many different things, but normally we tend to overlook the range of skill our team members possesses. DAMASCAS helps team leader by considering multiple skills members posses and their respective competency level.

Damascas balances the work requirement and staff availability. It tries to allocate task to member, who are most competent in that job.

DAMASCAS was conceptualised to effeciently allocate some 900 workers to different job on daily basis in a workshop. DAMASCAS takes consideration of different skills available with the team members, requirement of the work and then allocates tasks to maximize the team effeciency.

DAMASCAS is for anybody who has to allocate work to others - team leaders, shop supervisor, office staff head, project leader. In short term - it can be used as a tool for day to day work allocation; it can also be used as a tool to plan effective work allocation for the team.

DAMASCAS can be used for small office team of 10-12 people to huge manufacturing setup with over 2000 workers.

DAMASCAS was first concieved to create daily work assignment for workers in a manufacturing setup with over 2500 workers.

ipsvd 0.12.0

ipsvd 0.12.0

ipsvd is a set of Internet protocol service daemons for TCP/IP and UDP/IP. more>>
ipsvd project is a set of Internet protocol service daemons for TCP/IP and UDP/IP. A daemon waits for incoming connections on a socket; for new connections, it conditionally runs an arbitrary program to handle the connection.
The daemons can be told to read and follow pre-defined instructions on how to handle incoming connections; based on the clients IP address or hostname, they can run different programs, set a different environment, deny a connection, or set a per host concurrency limit.
On Linux the network connection optionally can be encrypted using SSL3. ipsvd can be used to run services usually run by inetd or tcpserver. Normally the daemons are run by a supervisor process, such as runsv from the runit package, or daemontools supervise.
Enhancements:
- This version introduces a new sslsvd SSLv3 TCP/IP service daemon.
- sslsvd integrates the sslio program into tcpsvd, so that initializing the SSL session and reading the SSL key and certificate no longer need to be done for each incoming connection, but only once on startup of the service daemon.

flow-tools 0.68

flow-tools 0.68

flow-tools is a set of programs for processing and managing NetFlow exports from Cisco and Juniper routers. more>>
flow-tools is a set of programs for processing and managing NetFlow exports from Cisco and Juniper routers. The tools included are: flow-capture, flow-cat, flow-dscan, flow-expire, flow-export, flow-fanout, flow-filter, flow-gen, flow-header, flow-import, flow-mask, flow-merge, flow-nfilter, flow-print, flow-receive, flow-report, flow-send, flow-split, flow-stat, flow-tag, and flow-xlate.

Flow data is collected and stored by default in host byte ordera nd the files are portable across every endian architectures.

Commands that utilize the network use a localip/remoteip/port designation for communication. "localip" is the IP address the host will use as a source for sending or bind to when receiving NetFlow PDUs (ie the destination address of the exporter. Configuring the "localip" to 0 will force the kernel to decide what IP address to use for sending and listen on all IP addresses for receiving. "remoteip" is the destination IP address used for sending or the expected address of the source when receiving. If the "remoteip" is 0 then the application will accept flows from any source address. The "port" is the UDP port number used for sending or receiving. When using multicast addresses the localip/remoteip/port is used to represent the source, group, and port respectively.

Flows are exported from a router in a number of different configurable versions. A flow is a collection of key fields and additional data. The flow key is {srcaddr, dstaddr, input, output, srcport, dstport, prot, ToS}. Flow-tools supports one export version per file.

Export versions 1, 5, 6, and 7 all maintain {nexthop, dPkts, dOctets, First, Last, flags}, ie the next-hop IP address, number of packets, number of octets (bytes), start time, end time, and flags such as the TCP header bits. Version 5 adds the additional fields {src_as, dst_as, src_mask, dst_mask}, ie source AS, destination AS, source network mask, and destination network mask. Version 7 which is specific to the Catalyst switches adds in addition to the version 5 fields {router_sc}, which is the Router IP address which populates the flow cache shortcut in the Supervisor. Version 6 which is not officially supported by Cisco adds in addition to the version 5 fields {in_encaps, out_encaps, peer_nexthop}, ie the input and output interface encapsulation size, and the IP address of the next hop within the peer. Version 1 exports do not contain a sequence number and therefore should be avoided, although it is safe to store the data as version 1 if the additional fields are not used.

Version 8 IOS NetFlow is a second level flow cache that reduces the data exported from the router. There are currently 11 formats, all of which provide {dFlows, dOctets, dPkts, First, Last} for the key fields.

8.1 - Source and Destination AS, Input and Output interface
8.2 - Protocol and Port
8.3 - Source Prefix and Input interface
8.4 - Destination Prefix and Output interface
8.5 - Source/Destination Prefix and Input/Output interface
8.9 - 8.1 + ToS
8.10 - 8.2 + ToS
8.11 - 8.3 + ToS
8.12 - 8.5 + ToS
8.13 - 8.2 + ToS
8.14 - 8.3 + ports + ToS

Version 8 CatIOS NetFlow appears to be a less fine grained first level flow cache.

8.6 - Destination IP, ToS, Marked ToS,
8.7 - Source/Destination IP, Input/Output interface, ToS, Marked ToS,
8.8 - Source/Destination IP, Source/Destination Port,
Input/Output interface, ToS, Marked ToS,

The following programs are included in the flow-tools distribution.

flow-capture - Collect, compress, store, and manage disk space for exported flows from a router.
flow-cat - Concatenate flow files. Typically flow files will contain a small window of 5 or 15 minutes of exports. Flow-cat can be used to append files for generating reports that span longer time periods.
flow-fanout - Replicate NetFlow datagrams to unicast or multicast destinations. Flow-fanout is used to facilitate multiple collectors attached to a single router.
flow-report - Generate reports for NetFlow data sets. Reports include source/destination IP pairs, source/destination AS, and top talkers. Over 50 reports are currently supported.
flow-tag - Tag flows based on IP address or AS #. Flow-tag is used to group flows by customer network. The tags can later be used with flow-fanout or flow-report to generate customer based traffic reports.
flow-filter - Filter flows based on any of the export fields. Flow-filter is used in-line with other programs to generate reports based on flows matching filter expressions.
flow-import - Import data from ASCII or cflowd format.
flow-export - Export data to ASCII or cflowd format.
flow-send - Send data over the network using the NetFlow protocol.
flow-receive - Receive exports using the NetFlow protocol without storing to disk like flow-capture.
flow-gen - Generate test data.
flow-dscan - Simple tool for detecting some types of network scanning and Denial of Service attacks.
flow-merge - Merge flow files in chronoligical order.
flow-xlate - Perform translations on some flow fields.
flow-expire - Expire flows using the same policy of flow-capture.
flow-header - Display meta information in flow file.
flow-split - Split flow files into smaller files based on size, time, or tags.
