Ethwireck 1.2
Laptops which use dynamic IP address assignment via DHCP have the problem that the boot process is much longer. more>>
ethwireck can detect if the physical layer of the Ethernet is up. This can then be used in the init script for your network card to determine whether or not an interface should be brought up. In other words a timeout is avoided.
ethwireck is similar to mii-tool but it can work with more ethernet cards (not only drivers with an mii interface).
Note: I discovered recently that ethwireck does not work with all cards as expected. The problem seems to be that some cards support the interface but do not report the status as expected. I am currently invesitgating this problem. Wait for ethwireck-1.3.
To install it:
run
make
make install
or to not install to /usr/sbin/ethwireck but to /opt you can use
make PREFIX=/opt install
So far I have tested ethwireck only with 2.4.x Kernels. Probably
it will also work with 2.6.x Kernels but I have not used it
on a 2.6.x Kernel.

AirSnort 0.2.7e
AirSnort is a wireless LAN (WLAN) tool which recovers encryption keys. more>>
802.11b, using the Wired Equivalent Protocol (WEP), is crippled with numerous security flaws. Most damning of these is the weakness described in " Weaknesses in the Key Scheduling Algorithm of RC4 " by Scott Fluhrer, Itsik Mantin and Adi Shamir.
Adam Stubblefield was the first to implement this attack, but he has not made his software public. AirSnort, along with WEPCrack, which was released about the same time as AirSnort, are the first publicly available implementaions of this attack.
AirSnort requires approximately 5-10 million encrypted packets to be gathered. Once enough packets have been gathered, AirSnort can guess the encryption password in under a second.

rssgen 1.0
rssgen is a PHP RSS generator. more>>
You can create new headlines, modify existing ones, and preview how they will appear.
It is written in PHP and released under the GPL open source license.
About RSS:
RSS is a format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites, including major news sites like Wired, news-oriented community sites like Slashdot, and personal weblogs. But its not just for news.
Pretty much anything that can be broken down into discrete items can be syndicated via RSS: the "recent changes" page of a wiki, a changelog of CVS checkins, even the revision history of a book. Once information about each item is in RSS format, an RSS-aware program can check the feed for changes and react to the changes in an appropriate way.

mod_trace_output 1.1 Beta
mod_trace_output is an Apache plugin implementing server monitoring for output Web pages. more>>
mod_trace_output is part of the WASA application developed by Jean-Pierre Norguet. WASA aims to analyse the semantic content viewed by a Web site visitors. Such analysis not only needs to log urls, but also actual content seen by the visitors.
The mission of mod_trace_output is to supply the WASA application with the content of dynamic web pages. The problem is that dynamic content is generated in real-time. Furthermore, with new programming techniques using XML and CSS/XSLT, there is nearly no semantic content left in the pages. The content therefore needs to be stored after it is generated.
Server monitoring compares with network monitoring. Network monitoring mines the output Web pages on the network wire. A network monitor could be implemented on the basis of a network packet capture library like ethereal. The implementation would listen to the network, get TCP-IP packets, rebuild the TCP streams, and extract HTML data from the HTTP protocol.
Installation:
In previous version, mod_trace_output had no handler for the fixup phase, so the module needed to be executed first, but this is not a requirement anymore.
Ill give the installation steps if you compile mod_trace_output statically with Apache. But you can also use DSO and apxs to compile it out of Apache.
Here we go. Create a directory mod_trace_output in the modules directory of the source distribution of apache, copy all the files provided in the mod_trace_output release (mod_trace_output.c, mod_trace_output.h, filter.c, gzipcomp.c, mysql.c and MakeFile.tmpl), then add the following line in the configuration file.
AddModule modules/mod_trace_output/mod_trace_output.o
It uses libmysqlclient (.a or .so) so you need to set extra options in the Configuration file.
Add -L/path/to/libmysqlclient/folder -lz -lmysqlclient (if you have libmysqlclient.so) or -L/path/to/libmysqlclient/folder/libmysqlclient.a (if you have libmysqlclient.a) to EXTRA_LDFLAGS.
Add -I/path/to/mysql/include to EXTRA_INCLUDES.
DMAring 0.9
DMAring project is a novel generic network interface card driver architecture. more>>
Existing Linux drivers are inefficient, they saturate the CPU at a much lower packet rates than the maximum wire line packet rate that is possible. But with this driver, vanilla network cards can be used for high speed packet capturing. This driver improves the packet capturing speed by 7 to 10 times, and the real-time packet delivery response by 500 to 5000 times over existing drivers and alternate approaches (HIP, NAPI, pfring, check the references in the papers for performance comparisons [1, 2, 3]), depending on whether Redhat Linux or RTAI is used. Thus this obviates the need for expensive high capacity hardware, specialized network data acquisition cards and systems (for example from Endace).
This project contain basic source codes, which other developers can use/adapt for their applications, and three published conference papers [1, 2, 3] describes the architecture and establishes its benefits. One of the papers (at SANE 2006) also documents the detailed architecture and provides guidelines to modify any Linux network interface driver (Donald Becker style drivers).
Earlier I had received lot of mail request from networking, network security/monitoring domain people, to get these codes or modified specific network drivers. I am looking forward that some developer will take up this project, churn out driver modifications for the most common net work cards and share with others. I will continue to add other drivers, and libpcap library modifications when I get more time.
Anybody willing to know the issues involved in real-time Linux or looking for real-time networking solutions can take a look at my Masters thesis. I found RTAI with LXRT to be a very tractable, good performance, cheap (free!) real-time Linux option. My thesis contains some useful performance related discussions on this.
KNetworkManager 0.1
KNetworkManager is the KDE front end for NetworkManager. more>>
The range of functions encompasses the features implemented by NetworkManager daemon. Up until now NetworkManager supports:
Wired Ethernet Devices (IEEE 802.3)
Wireless Ethernet Devices (IEEE 802.11): Unencrypted, WEP, WPA Personal, WPA Enterprise
Virtual Private Network (VPN): OpenVPN, VPNC
Dial-Up (PPP)
How does it work?
For both, Wireless LAN and Wired LAN, NetworkManager supports devices known to HAL. Unless working in offline mode, NetworkManager tries to keep the system connected at any time. For this, NetworkManager follows the following policy.
Once started, NetworkManager asks HAL about available network interfaces. If a wired network interface with a carrier is found, NetworkManager connects to this. Either by DHCP (default) or by setting up previously defined static configuration. Later on, when KNetworkManager starts up, NetworkManager will expose its information about network devices and wireless networks found by scanning to the applet.
At this point, if a user decides to unplug the wired connection, NetworkManager will not connect to an arbitrary wireless network. By default all available networks are untrusted. Only if a user decides to connect to a network manually once, this specific network n henceforth being marked as trusted.
n = { ESSID, Hardware address or addresses of the access point}
The trusted networks are stored individually for each user. KNetworkManager stores them and informs NetworkManager about the known, trusted networks. If a wired connection drops due to unplugging the cable NetworkManager will automatically connect to a trusted network. As this step was done without user interaction, NetworkManager will reconnect to the wired connection once it has a carrier.
If a user joins a wireless network by manual intervention (e.g. user clicks on a network listed in the context menu of KNetworkManager or connects to a hidden wireless network), NetworkManager will take down any previous connection. If one unplugs the wired connection after such a step, NetworkManager will not connect to the wired connection once it has a carrier.
