Pine is tool for reading, sending, and managing electronic messages. more>>
Pine is a tool for reading, sending, and managing electronic messages. Pine was designed by the Office of Computing & Communications at the University of Washington specifically with novice computer users in mind, but it can be tailored to accommodate the needs of "power users" as well.
Pine project uses Internet message protocols (e.g. RFC-822, MIME, SMTP, IMAP, NNTP) and runs on Unix and PCs.
Pines message composition editor, Pico, is also available as a separate stand-alone program. Pico is a very simple and easy-to-use text editor offering paragraph justification, cut/paste, and a spelling checker.
Main features:
- Online help specific to each screen and context.
- Message index showing a message summary which includes the status, sender, size, date and subject of messages.
- Commands to view and process messages: Forward, Reply, Save, Export, Print, Delete, capture address, and search.
- Message composer with easy-to-use editor and spelling checker. The message composer also assists entering and formatting addresses and provides direct access to the address book.
- Address book for saving long complex addresses and personal distribution lists under a nickname.
- Message attachments via the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) specification. MIME allows sending/receiving non-text objects, such as binary files, spreadsheets, graphics, and sound.
- Folder management commands for creating, deleting, listing, or renaming message folders. Folders may be local or on remote hosts.
- Access to remote message folders and archives via the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP).
- Internet news support via either NNTP or IMAP.
- Aggregate operations, e.g. saving a selected set of messages at once.

64 Studio 2.0

64 Studio 2.0

64 Studio is developing a collection of software for digital content creation on x86_64 hardware. more>>
64 Studio is developing a collection of software for digital content creation on x86_64 hardware (thats AMDs 64-bit CPUs and Intels EM64T chips).
Its based on the pure 64 port of Debian GNU/Linux, but with a specialised package selection and lots of other customisations.
64 Studio has Debian Pure 64 with X.org, the Gnome desktop, kernel 2.6.12 with realtime preemption patches and a selection of creative applications. Please note that this release is provided for testing only, and comes with no warranty.
Problems in this release include useful packages missing or not installed by default, confusing Gnome menus and assorted warnings during installation. There are probably plenty of other things wrong with it as well, which is why were calling this an alpha release. But it does actually install and run on our Opteron and Athlon 64 test hardware.
Anyone who is interested in getting involved with the 64 Studio project would be most welcome. Our aim is to create a distribution with full (but completely optional) commercial support, which will generate revenue to pay free software developers.
Enhancements:
- 64 Studio 2.0 is designed to retain compatibility with Debian Etch, to create a long-lived and stable creative desktop. We combine the stability and quality of Etch with a specialised real-time preemption kernel and the latest creative tools demanded by multimedia artists. Our tweaks to Debian include simplified installation and default settings which help get production underway quickly. Its our target that users should be able to get from a blank hard disc to a fully hardware-optimised and usable creative desktop in just half an hour.

V86-64 20070607

V86-64 20070607

V86-64 project is a simple linux kernel patch which allows legacy 8086 programs to run on modern x86-64 AMD and Intel processors more>>
V86-64 project is a simple linux kernel patch which allows legacy 8086 programs to run on modern x86-64 AMD and Intel processors. Currently 64-bit version of linux kernel lacks support of V86 mode because it is not supported in native operating mode (long mode) of these processors. But these processors still have possibility to run 8086 programs in legacy x86 mode. This patch exploits this feature.
Currently only vm86() system call is supported for 32-bit linux programs. Its also possible to add support for 64-bit programs by assigning it a system call number, but this is not done yet. The vm86_old() system call is not currently supported.
DOSEMU 1.4.0 / 1.2.2 (32-bit) works (tested with FreeDOS and PC-DOS 2000, Microsoft Windows 3.1 (DOSEMU 1.4.0)). DPMI also works.
SMP is supported, but has not been tested yet. SMP also has an issue with multithreading on memory area in addresses from 0x00110000 to 0x00113FFF (these 4 pages used by monitor to control V86 program) and can result in segfault on other threads of userspace monitor process. The solution is to avoid using these pages in userspace V86 monitors.
This patch is very experimental. Use it on you risk. It needs to be heavily tested.
Only AMD64 is tested. EM64T might also work, and needs to be tested.
Installation:
To install, apply patch to your kernel source tree.
For example: cd /usr/src; bunzip2
Source tree is expected to be located in directory "linux"
Then go to menuconfig and select "Executable file formats / Emulations ---> Virtual 8086 mode support" and rebuild a kernel.
Your kernel will have vm86() system call for 32-bit programs and DOSEMU will run 8086 code natively.
Direct I/O access and IRQ redirect should also work.
NOTE: You need 32-bit i386 version of DOSEMU, not x86-64!
This patch is for kernel 2.6.21.1. Other not so old kernels also may be patched without problem.
Enhancements:
- V86 monitor now works in a separate address space.
- The device driver interface no longer depends on the VM86_64 option and can be built as a separate module.
- A standalone package for v86dev that does not need the kernel to be rebuilt was provided.
- The kernel patch is now less invasive.
- Some serious bugs were fixed.

libguestfs 1.0.64

libguestfs 1.0.64

libguestfs functions as a helpful library for accessing and modifying guest disk images. more>>

libguestfs 1.0.64 functions as a helpful library for accessing and modifying guest disk images. Amongst the things this is good for: making batch configuration changes to guests, viewing and editing files inside guests, getting disk used/free statistics (see also: virt-df), migrating between virtualization systems (see also: virt-p2v), performing partial backups, performing partial guest clones, cloning guests and changing registry/UUID/hostname info, and much else besides.

Major Features:

  1. libguestfs uses Linux kernel and qemu code, and can access any type of guest filesystem that Linux and qemu can, including but not limited to: ext2/3/4, btrfs, FAT and NTFS, LVM, many different disk partition schemes, qcow, qcow2, vmdk.
  2. libguestfs provides ways to enumerate guest storage (eg. partitions, LVs, what filesystem is in each LV, etc.). It can also run commands in the context of the guest. Also you can upload and download files and directories.
  3. libguestfs is a library that can be linked with C and C++ management programs (or management programs written in OCaml, Perl, Python, Ruby, Java or Haskell). You can also use it from shell scripts or the command line.

Task Coach 0.64.2

Task Coach 0.64.2

Task Coach is a simple todo manager to manage personal tasks and todo lists. more>>
Task Coach is a simple open source todo manager to manage personal tasks and todo lists. Task Coach grew out of my frustration that well-known task managers, such as those provided with Outlook or Lotus Notes, do not provide facilities for composite tasks.
Often, tasks and other things todo consist of several activities. Task Coach is designed to deal with composite tasks.
Currently, Task Coach is at version 0.42. I use it on a daily basis, but there are still a lot of features missing. If theres anything youd like to see included, please let me know.
Main features:
- Creating, editing, and deleting tasks and subtasks.
- Tasks have a subject, description, priority, start date, due date and a completion date.
- Tasks can be viewed as a list or as a tree.
- Tasks can be sorted by all task attributes, e.g. subject, budget, budget left, due date, etc.
- Several filters to e.g. hide completed tasks or view only tasks that are due today.
- Task status depends on its subtask and vice versa. E.g. if you mark the last uncompleted subtask as completed, the parent task is automatically marked as completed too.
- Tasks can be assigned to user-defined categories.
- Settings are persistent and saved automatically. The last opened file is loaded automatically when starting Task Coach.
- Track time spent on tasks. Tasks can have a budget. Time spent can be viewed by individual effort period, by day, by week, and by month.
- The Task Coach file format (.tsk) is XML.
Enhancements:
- This release fixes sorting of tasks by priority and makes sure that Task Coach does not block OS shutdown.
