Chkconfig is a tool for managing the collection of symbolic links found in the /etc/rc[0-6].d directories, on System V derived UNIX systems. The project saves the system administrator from the tedium of manually managing the scores of symbolic links.
SGI originally created chkconfig and shipped it with their IRIX operating system. In 1993, Italo Lisi and Luigi Genoni created a script version of chkconfig for Linux. Several years later, RedHat independently created their own C version of the same idea, which is the basis for the code provided here.
In this version, an autoconf style configure script is added, as well as some detection for the /etc/rc.d directory (eg. /etc under Solaris). I sent patches to RedHat based on their RedHat-5.2 version, but never received any communication back.
It seemed like a generally useful tool, especially for porting RPM spec files to Solaris, so Im making it available here.
The newest version (1.3.30a) is based on the version shipped with Fedora Core 6. I have only tested it under Debian, but should compile easily on other distributions if you have a library supporting the getopt_long() function.
Installation:
The installation procedure is the standard GNU one:
# ./configure
# make
# make install
which should detect the configuration your OS uses and compile the program with the correct defaults. If it is unable to determine the initscript directories for your platform, there are specific options documented in INSTALL. (Please also email the author the options you gave to configure, so that the sources can be modified to automatically support your system.)
You can also pass the --disable-ntsysv option to configure to skip compilation of that program. Similarly, --disable-alternatives skips compilation of the alternatives program.
Enhancements:
- Updated to match version 1.3.30 as distributed by Fedora Core 6.
- Now includes the "/usr/sbin/alternatives" program, and no longer requires the popt library.

Linux on a Stick is an attempt to make a Live-CD/USB-Flash server Linux distro. At its heart is a very small and simple Linux distro that boots off CD/Flash and runs from RAM (Ie no spinning hard drives of death).
This approach allows us to strip the OS to its very basic components, which minimizes the amount of resources required. This distro is targeted towards Server administrator who are familiar with Linux, its only configuration method is the command line.
Enhancements:
- Linux kernel 2.4.33 was replaced with 2.6.18.8.
- A USB booting problem that would prevent it from booting on some BIOSs (Namely AMI) was resolved.
- The ARDIS iSCSI target was replaced with the Enterprise iSCSI target (v0.4.14).
- The Open iSCSI initiator (v2.0.754) package with kernel modules is included.
- The distribution now boots on more than just Intel CPUs.
- Userland tools (v3.6.19) and kernel FS support were included for ReiserFS and XFS.
- The PHP CLI is included in php-5.2.0 in root.gz initrd.

.icns allows you to use Mac OS X .icns icon files as easily as PNG pictures in GTK+ applications (custom icons, etc.)
Enhancements:
- This version adds support for 48x48, 32x32, and 16x16 icons, and for legacy icons (B&W, 16, and 256 colors).
- A command line tool that displays detailed information about icons contained in a .icns file has been added.

AnotherScrapBook (ASB) is based on the original AutoScrapbook as developed by Kirk Bauer.

I discovered this fine tool in version 3.7, and, because of one little feature (the capacity to handle Films from my Canon camera), I began rewriting from ground the script from KB.

By lack of fantasy, it became AnotherScrapBook (lets see if itll stay like this, but I need to keep "ASB" as initials...).

In the mean time, KB has further developed AutoScrapbook, so you might as well have a look at it in version 4.1.

A MySQL Storage Engine for AWS S3 project is a plugin storage engine that allows MySQL to access Amazon Web Services Simple Storage Service (AWS S3) buckets and items.
You need a MySQL source tree, and you need to have it built.
Figure out where the source tree is.
In my case its /home/mark/mysql/mysql-5.1-arch
Figure out where the target install tree is.
In my case its /home/mark/mysql/builds/example
Figure out where the MySQL build puts storage engine plugins.
Its probably in lib/mysql under the install tree
Or its /usr/lib/mysql
Or its /usr/local/lib/mysql
For me its /home/mark/mysql/builds/example/lib/mysql
Then run:
./config/bootstrap
./configure --with-mysql=/path/to/mysql-source --libdir=/path/to/mysql-plugins
make && make install
You can optionally copy the "src" directory here into storage/ in the
MySQL server source, rebuild MySQL, and things should compile.
Next, you should probably install the S3 command line tools.
They depend on you having Python.

If you dont have one yet, you need an Amazon AWS account, and then
request that they enable S3. Go to http://amazonaws.com/ to do that.
You will need to get your "AWS Access Key Identifiers".

line tools easier.
Use s3mkbucket to create a bucket. Remember that buckets are in a
global namespace, and there are advantages to having them look lik a
domain name. I suggest you snap up "s3.example.com", where
"example.com" is your own domain name.

You can name the table anything you want, but the fields must be named s3id and s3val, and s3id must be the primary key.
