Atom Publishing Protocol framework for Ruby 0.5.0
Atom Publishing Protocol framework for Rubys goal is to make adopting Atom Publishing Protocol(APP) support in web applications more>>
The way that this framework realizes this functionality is by implementing a base class for each back-end. At the moment there is only one back-end, for Ruby on Rails. The base classes then expect that the users application responds to a certain interface that makes the content information storing the responsibility of the application.
While implementing the framework Im going to follow two principles, simplicity and generality. Simplicity in that sense that the framework only does what it needs to do, nothing else, thus staying out of the way of the developer, laying down as few constraints on the application as possible.
Generality principle follows on the same track. As the overhead from using the framework is in the minimum, the field of application gets wider. From technical point of view the generality will be helped by multiple back-ends that enable the use of framework in many different environments.
The APP is currently an Internet-Draft and hence most likely will change in near future. For this, it is better to keep the framework as simple as possible so that it can be refactored with minimum effort.
The work for this project is freely available(MIT licensed) from this website. I am writing this framework as a part of my final thesis at the Tampere University of Technology, Finland.
Isabelle 2005
Isabelle is a popular generic theorem prover developed at Cambridge University and TU Munich. more>>
Compared with similar tools, Isabelles distinguishing feature is its flexibility. Most proof assistants are built around a single formal calculus, typically higher-order logic. Isabelle has the capacity to accept a variety of formal calculi. The distributed version supports higher-order logic but also axiomatic set theory and several other formalisms. See logics for more details.
Isabelle is a joint project between Lawrence C. Paulson (University of Cambridge, UK) and Tobias Nipkow (Technical University of Munich, Germany).
Main features:
- Interpretation of locale expressions in theories, locales, and proof contexts.
- Substantial library improvements (HOL, HOL-Complex, HOLCF).
- Proof tools for transitivity reasoning.
- General find_theorems command (by term patterns, as intro/elim/simp rules etc.).
- Commands for generating adhoc draft documents.
- Support for Unicode proof documents (UTF-8).
- Major internal reorganizations and performance improvements.
Web100 2.5.16
Web100 project was created to produce a complete host-software environment that will run common TCP applications. more>>
While the national high-performance network infrastructure has grown tremendously both in bandwidth and accessibility, it is still common for applications, hosts, researchers and other users to be unable to take full advantage of this new and improved infrastructure.
Without expert attention from network engineers, users are unlikely to achieve even 10 Mbps single stream TCP transfers, despite the fact that the underlying network infrastructure can support data rates of 100Mbps or more.
On unloaded networks, this poor performance can be attributed primarily to two factors: host system software (principally TCP) that is optimized for low bandwidth environments, and the lack of effective instrumentation and tools to diagnose performance issues.
The Web100 project was created to address these problems. The first is addressed with automatic TCP buffer tuning. The Web100 work in this area has been merged with main-line Linux kernel, and is contained in recent releases.
To address the other problem, we have created a set of TCP instruments, defined in an IETF internet-draft. These instruments are implemented in Linux with the Web100 kernel patch.
Enhancements:
- This release has limited slow-start capability.
- It has been updated for 2.6.22.
ThreatNet::DATN2004 0.01
ThreatNet::DATN2004 is a Proposal: The Decentralised Active Threat Network. more>>
This document has been created to describe a concept that may be of use in a variety of fields. It should be considered a general concept only and is subject to change.
This CPAN/POD version of the document, first published in December 2004 at http://ali.as/devel/threatnetwork.html, has been released to independantly timestamp and archive the concept and proposal in case of future patent-related issues by companies and to attempt to keep the core idea available to all.
On the Internet there exists an increasing number of different ways in which hosts are being misused or abused. Likewise there is also an increasing number of ways in which these known-bad hosts are being identified. Most of these occur in the process of a particular task, such as checking an email message for spam status.
As these hosts are identified, their identify is transmitted across to internet to members of threat networks. The most common of these are the various email "black lists", most of which use DNS or some other method to publish lists of known-bad ips or ip ranges. Mail processing services submit requests to a DNS server storing these lists to determine if a particular host contacting them is a known spammer.
This draft specification describes a system which would be used to identify a specific category of these bad ips, hosts that can be considered "Active Threats". An Active Threat is a host that is currently engaged in anti-social, damaging or criminal behaviour, such as actively sending out spam or viruses. This specification is NOT intended to deal with long-term offenders, as they are addressed by a number of current systems.
If applied to long term offenders, hosts would be registered as an Active Threat when they commence their anti-social behaviour, and fall off any list during periods in which they are not conducting this behaviour.
The general intent is to deal with only those hosts that are actively engaged in damaging behaviour, whether or not they are long term offenders or new offenders. And to deal with the hosts as soon as possible, ideally within a few seconds.
