GTK+ 2.8.20

GTK+ 2.8.20

Gtk+ is a library for creating graphical user interfaces. more>>
GTK+ is a multi-platform toolkit for creating graphical user interfaces. Offering a complete set of widgets, GTK+ is suitable for projects ranging from small one-off projects to complete application suites.
GTK+ is free software and part of the GNU Project. However, the licensing terms for GTK+, the GNU LGPL, allow it to be used by all developers, including those developing proprietary software, without any license fees or royalties.
GTK+ is based on three libraries developed by the GTK+ team:
- GLib is the low-level core library that forms the basis of GTK+ and GNOME. It provides data structure handling for C, portability wrappers, and interfaces for such runtime functionality as an event loop, threads, dynamic loading, and an object system.
- Pango is a library for layout and rendering of text, with an emphasis on internationalization. It forms the core of text and font handling for GTK+-2.0.
- The ATK library provides a set of interfaces for accessibility. By supporting the ATK interfaces, an application or toolkit can be used with such tools as screen readers, magnifiers, and alternative input devices.
GTK+ has been designed from the ground up to support a range of languages, not only C/C++. Using GTK+ from languages such as Perl and Python (especially in combination with the Glade GUI builder) provides an effective method of rapid application development.
Enhancements:
- GTK+ requires ATK 1.9.0 now
Bugs fixed:
- 168105 the right edge tab does not appear when switching tab
- 344876 refcount leak when using ComboBox.set_cell_data_func
- 346102 root window doesnt update size as it should
- 346341 Memory leak in gtk_tree_model_sort_finalize: User data not freed
- 346375 MIPSPro compilation fix for gtk-2.8.19
- 346374 Patches for Interix
- Updated translations (lv)

Zim 0.20

Zim 0.20

Zim is a WYSIWYG text editor written in Gtk2-Perl. more>>
Zim is a WYSIWYG text editor written in Gtk2-Perl. Zim aims at bringing the concept of a wiki to your desktop. For example every page is saved as a text file with wiki markup. Pages can contain links to other pages, and are saved automatically.
Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a non-existing page. This tool is intended to keep track of TODO lists or serve as a personal scratch book.
Development on Zim started september 2005. This means there is no stable version yet. We are currently in beta testing. New releases will be announced on freshmeat. Please subscribe there to stay in touch.
Zim handles several types of markup, like headings, bullet lists and of course bold, italic and highlighted. This markup is saved as wiki text so you can easily edit it with other editors. Because of the autosave feature you can switch between pages and follow links while editing without worries.
Enhancements:
- Among other fixes, a bug where zim would hang on "new link" on some platforms was fixed, as well as a bug that could corrupt links on "update link".
- New features are the option to control the look of a new page through a template and to control the rendering of pages through a simple kind of stylesheet.
- Support for slow filesystems was added.
- Other improvements include better handling of formatting in the undo stack and the addition of a "document root" setting to the repository.

Smit 0.20

Smit 0.20

Smit is a simple ARP sniffer for switched/unswitched networks. more>>
Smit is a simple ARP sniffer for switched/unswitched networks.

It works even better on switched networks, because the spoofed sides do not see the duplicated packets.

I based the tool on sources from arpmitm and arprelay and included nice features like automatic ARP MAC query and some improved MAC cache consistence algorithm.

Now you can save the whole relayed traffic to a file (buffered, for heavy traffic and direct write mode included) and analyse it with some hex editor.

The format of the capture file defaults now to pkt which means the captured packets will be prefixed with packet id (number, going from 0) and the captured packet length.

The file can be decoded with the pktview utility which Im still working on. Undef TCPDATA in pktview.c if you dont want the lame tcp-data extracting code

Nmap 4.20

Nmap 4.20

Nmap is a network exploration tool and security/port scanner. more>>
Nmap is a utility for network exploration or security auditing. It supports ping scanning (determine which hosts are up), many port scanning techniques (determine what services the hosts are offering), version detection (determine what application/service is runing on a port), and TCP/IP fingerprinting (remote host OS or device identification).
Nmap project also offers flexible target and port specification, decoy/stealth scanning, SunRPC scanning, and more. Most Unix and Windows platforms are supported in both GUI and command line modes. Several popular handheld devices are also supported, including the Sharp Zaurus and the iPAQ.
Main features:
- Flexible: Supports dozens of advanced techniques for mapping out networks filled with IP filters, firewalls, routers, and other obstacles. This includes many port scanning mechanisms (both TCP & UDP), OS detection, version detection, ping sweeps, and more. See the documentation page.
- Powerful: Nmap has been used to scan huge networks of literally hundreds of thousands of machines.
- Portable: Most operating systems are supported, including Linux, Microsoft Windows, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris, IRIX, Mac OS X, HP-UX, NetBSD, Sun OS, Amiga, and more.
- Easy: While Nmap offers a rich set of advanced features for power users, you can start out as simply as "nmap -v -A targethost". Both traditional command line and graphical (GUI) versions are available to suit your preference. Binaries are available for those who do not wish to compile Nmap from source.
- Free: The primary goals of the Nmap Project is to help make the Internet a little more secure and to provide administrators/auditors/hackers with an advanced tool for exploring their networks. Nmap is available for free download, and also comes with full source code that you may modify and redistribute under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL).
- Well Documented: Significant effort has been put into comprehensive and up-to-date man pages, whitepapers, and tutorials. Find them in multiple languages here.
- Supported: While Nmap comes with no warranty, you can write the author (fyodor@insecure.org) if you experience any problems. We also host several mailing lists you can join.
- Acclaimed: Nmap has won numerous awards, including "Information Security Product of the Year" by Linux Journal, Info World and Codetalker Digest. It has been featured in hundreds of magazine articles and is even recommended by Microsoft. Visit the press page for further details.
- Popular: Thousands of people download Nmap every day, and it is included with many operating systems (Redhat Linux, Debian Linux, Gentoo, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, etc). It is among the top ten (out of 30,000) programs at the Freshmeat.Net repository. This is important because it lends Nmap its vibrant development and user support communities.

nmdb 0.20

nmdb 0.20

nmdb is a network database that uses the TIPC protocol to communicate with its clients. more>>
nmdb is a network database that uses the TIPC protocol to communicate with its clients.
nmdb consists of an in-memory cache, that saves (key, value) pairs, and a persistent backend that stores the pairs on disk.
Both work combined, but the use of the backend is optional, so you can use the server only for cache queries, pretty much like memcached.
A library is provided to interact with the database and the cache in a very simple way. Python bindings are also available and come with the distribution.
Its written in C, in about 2000 lines of code, and depends on libevent (network polling) and qdbm (database backend).
It also requires a TIPC-enabled Linux kernel (TIPC is included in the kernel in versions >= 2.6.16), with its matching userspace headers.
The license for the server is Open Software License 3.0, and the library is BOLA (Public Domain), so you can run the software anywhere, and link the library with whatever you want.
Enhancements:
- TCP and UDP support was implemented.
- The compare-and-swap operation was added.
- D and NewLisp bindings were added.
- Tests were extended.
- Performance was improved and the documentation was updated.

POWA intends to be a program to operate a Webcam. more>>
POWA intends to be a program to operate a Webcam. It supports live video, snapshot taking (with a timer or with a button), and more. # Notes: Ive had reports that the cameras using the pwc driver (Philips) dont work with POWA. I intend to fix it soon but I need a test camera since I dont have such an object.
Ive coded this program with my webcam (Creative Webcam 3) and the video stream works for me. I would like to make a list of working webcams and add support for webcams that doesnt work yet. So, if you have a webcam and you have problems with POWA, send me an email explaining the problem, or better, make a patch to make it work and send it to me.
I want to thanks Damien Sandras (GnomeMeeting) who gave me some hints.
Well thats it. It should compile with the typical "./configure ; make ; make install". Ive had problems to get the installation working. So if you go into some bugs there, dont hesitate to contact me.
POWA takes one optional argument at the command line for now, the device file (e.g. powa /dev/video1). By default, POWA will try to use the /dev/video0 device file.
Main features:
- A simple and intuitive GUI with streaming video input
- Picture saving on the filesystem (via ImageMagick, supports over 60 file formats)
- Snapshot annotation with text
- Snapshot timer
Enhancements:
- At last a new release !
- New feature: Picture annotation with text
- New feature: Timer to take a picture every X seconds
- Some graphical enhancements

jset project is an implementation of the Set board game. more>>
jset project is an implementation of the Set board game.

The game can be played alone or on the network. The Set board game is a card game whose goal is to find matching sets of cards.

The game is played using 81 (3^4) unique cards. On each card is drawn a set of identical shapes.

These sets of shapes have 4 properties, each shape property taken from a set of 3 possibilities: color (e.g. red, blue, and green), type (e.g. rectangle, circle, and triangle), fill (e.g. empty, full, and shaded), and number (e.g. one, two, and three).

The cards are disposed on the table in front of the players. The players must try to identify matching sets of cards.
