System Health Monitor for Linux is a handy python program that will setup your system to generate RRD Graphs of network interface traffic, system load, memory usage, disk space and inode usage and graphs of the number of running processes.

System Health Monitor features a user-friendly interactive configuration mode and auto-generated html pages. Just point your web server to the health_html directory to get an overview of the status of your machine. You can see examples of it in operation here on my machine and on KPLUG.org

TrollBridge is a set of scripts that allows you to build a custom network authentication system that will capture unauthorized clients, direct them to a login page, and then redirect them to their original destination. It is based on the firewall script from NoCatSplash, but is written in python instead of c.

It can be used to to setup a network hot-spot for your business, school or home. The only authorization methods currently available are a skeleton username/password example, and an example using iButton devices. When a unknown MAC addresses tries to make a connection to the protected network the iptables rules redirect any access (web or otherwise) to port 5280 where the Apache server then displays the authentication page. MAC addresses are used to keep track of authorized users, so this system is susceptible the MAC is spoofed.

The scripts are not plug and play, you will need to customize them for your unique situation, as well as modify your iptables settings and add a virtual host to the Apache web server. If you need help you can ask on the TrollBridge support list

BulkWatch is a utility which monitors sendmails logs and takes a specified action when an ip has exceeded your configured maximum settings.

You can specify that users may send X messages in X # of seconds, email in excess of that would trigger an action, which can be any of the following;

* display an alert to screen in foreground mode
* log an alert to syslog
* email an alert to a predefined email address
* run an external command with the ip and # of messages as a arguments

FreeDOS was previously known as "Free-DOS" and originally as "PD-DOS." For a little trip down memory lane: In 1994, I was a physics student at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Most of my work for school had been done using DOS - writing programs, dialing up to the university computer, network, analysing lab data, etc. I really loved DOS; I did everything with it. I had a 386 desktop system in my dorm room and an XT laptop that I would carry around with me to do work "on the go".

Installation of sekhost is very straightforward and actually only requires 2 things;
the sekhost script itself, which is in the src directory a configuration file. (examples in ./doc/examples) name your config file either /etc/default/sekhost or /etc/sekhost.conf
and you are ready to go!

You will find an interactive configuration option (sekhost configure).

After testing, you will want sekhost to start automatically on boot, so you will need to link it into the appropriate init level start up scripts.
